Stately home in Suffolk

Posted 10-Apr-2014
Pros: the accommodation and food, pleasant staff and country location
Cons: Some paint and woodwork in corridor and room ready for a facelift and repair.
Location: Many Suffolk / Essex tourist sites within an hour's drive and Ipswich, Colchester, Bury St Edmunds, Felixstowe are handy by road.
Beautiful public rooms and grounds - handy for Constable country, Lavenham, Sutton Hoo, Aldeburgh etc. and convenient for Harwich and Ipswich. Very good food and a most pleasant experience.

Luxurious and characterful hotel

Posted 03-Jun-2013
The hotel felt very luxurious but was actually good value for money. The room was spacious, with lots of character and was very comfortable. We eat in the hotel restaurant, which was nice enough but a bit overpriced for what we had. The public areas were noisy in the evening due to music from a wedding reception.

Just needs a bit of TLC here and there but all in all we were very happy with our stay. The staff was excellent and the grounds beautiful. Food was very good.

Booked Hintlesham as a birthday treat for my husband. Staff, hotel, location wonderful. They couldn't have been more helpful and attentive. Looking forward to staying there in the future.

Relaxing stay, great food

Posted 17-Apr-2013 on Hotels.com
Had a lovely 3 day stay over Easter. The rooms are nice and clean and the standard room we stayed in was more than big enough. The food is exceptional and the cooked breakfast is a nice way to set you up for the day. We also made time for afternoon tea during our stay, which was a nice treat. The staff were all pleasant and went out of their way to be helpful and make our stay memorable. If I had one small gripe, it was that the bathroom was in need of a spruce up to get it to the same standard of the bedroom. Overall, it’s a very nice place to stay and I’m sure we will be back in the future.

Great hotel

Posted 03-Mar-2013
Pros: Staff
Cons: Slightly shabby
Location: Excellent
The hotel room was large and well equipped but some of the fittings a little shabby. There were excellent facilities, breakfast and coffee making facilities. However, some biscuits with the coffee making facilities would have been welcome.

Wonderful hotel and great staff

The hotel and staff at Hintlesham hall are wonderful. The food was lovley and service spot on. The only negative comment is that the rooms are a little tired and would look amazing is treated to a professional make over. Also we went to sit and read by the log fires, but the one in the main reception area is never alight and even when asked if they could (as it was a gas one it should not have been a problem),but we were told it is never lit :( they said we could sit in the other lounge but only for a hour as it was being used for a wedding so that was a shame. Afternoon tea was good and inexpensive and all in all we would return (in fact we did a couple of weeks later)

Personally I should have liked an unheated towel rail , in addition to the heated one, by the end of the bath as there was absolutely nothing except a lot of space at that end and nowhere to hang a bath towel. The toilet roll holder could have been easier to access. It required a huge twist around. Also useful would be somewhere to put the shower gel when showering. As I understand, this room was redone in something of a HURRY with some quite important features overlooked...but it was attractive with plenty of hot water available at all times. All in all a very satisfactory stay in a spacious, well decorated bedroom and comfortable chairs in which to relax and a bonus that we could have the dog with us.Apart from the comments about the bathroom I would recommend the hotel as excellent with a most interesting history, and convenient for travel in all directions. The room was clean ,the public areas comfortable and the staff always helpful.
