One night stay

Posted 25-Oct-2014
Pros: Lovely location and setting.
Cons: WiFi in the room - non existent.
Rooms pleasant, clean, and nicely furnished. Staff generally were good and attentive. Bar food was good and an enjoyable breakfast but the hotel seemed not to be that used to (well behaved) children. WiFi did not work in the room, worked fine in the lounge but was frustrating. I was informed the "box" probably needed to be rebooted in the morning nonchalantly by a member off staff after querying the service for the second time - who then tried to blame the weather for the lack of service...

Peaceful, relaxing and first class accommodation

Posted 21-Aug-2014 on Hotels.com
An absolutely splendid imposing Grade 1 listed Elizabethan Manor House, complete with considerable Georgian additions and Stuart interior embellishments this is such a wonderful place to stay. Peaceful, restful, closely surrounded by beautiful grounds and in 175 unspoilt acres of rolling Suffolk countryside. Our room was large and spacious, pleasantly furnished and all facilities were first class. Attention to detail and to our comfort was assured. Extremely comfortable bed and quality bathroom accessories. Breakfast was served most efficiently, food was plentiful, tasty and with a wide choice on the menu. Freedom to use the many historic rooms and, in our case, to walk the grounds in perfect summer weather was an additional bonus. The whole experience on our first stay at this lovely venue was one of calm, friendly and efficient professionalism from all the staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and shall most certainly return.

Upstairs Downstairs.

We found it a bit O.T.T. regarding the service in the Dining Room so not very relaxing. We felt the food was overpriced and the quality didn't match up.We opted for meal in the Library one night which was a bit of a disaster nobody knew we were there our order took for ages, food was ok. We have stayed in less priced hotels and been happier. Our room wasn't serviced one night we had to go and ask for more milk for the tea tray, and biscuits weren't replaced at all, found that a bit irritating considering the price. The staff were all very professional and obliging. Some of the general rooms need sprucing up.

Rooms were lovely but so hot an stuffy, even with the windown open. Barely slept and told reception staff member but she couldn't have cared less!

I found the hotel a huge refreshing change from the usual "bedroom" factory I normally stay in for business, in fact, I will be using this hotel in the future when I need to stay in Ipswich and I also want to return with the family - excellent

Stately home in Suffolk

Posted 10-Apr-2014
Pros: the accommodation and food, pleasant staff and country location
Cons: Some paint and woodwork in corridor and room ready for a facelift and repair.
Location: Many Suffolk / Essex tourist sites within an hour's drive and Ipswich, Colchester, Bury St Edmunds, Felixstowe are handy by road.
Beautiful public rooms and grounds - handy for Constable country, Lavenham, Sutton Hoo, Aldeburgh etc. and convenient for Harwich and Ipswich. Very good food and a most pleasant experience.

Luxurious and characterful hotel

Posted 03-Jun-2013
The hotel felt very luxurious but was actually good value for money. The room was spacious, with lots of character and was very comfortable. We eat in the hotel restaurant, which was nice enough but a bit overpriced for what we had. The public areas were noisy in the evening due to music from a wedding reception.

We're 50+ and kidless

Just needs a bit of TLC here and there but all in all we were very happy with our stay. The staff was excellent and the grounds beautiful. Food was very good.
