All the comforts of home.

Posted 23-Nov-2014
Pros: The homely, comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. The staff are also very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Hotel is a bit tired and could do with a bit of a makeover (which I believe it is going to get). I only hope it will retain its character.
Location: Fairly close to Ipswich and all the local attractions. Nice walks in the immediate area through local parklands. Lovely and peaceful location. Enjoy!
We return to this hotel year after year due to its proximity to Stanstead Airport. We find the price very competitive for the facilities that are available. Although slightly tired and in need of a bit of a makeover, the rooms are spacious and comfortable. There is good 'pub grub' available in the bar until 9.30pm and a nice restaurant on site. Breakfast is lovely with a good choice of both hot and cold foods. There is a large reception area where you can hang out with a nice cup of coffee. There are many lovely walks around the hotel including a short walk around the grounds of the hotel. Take your swimming costume as the on site leisure centre is available to guests with a clean spacious pool and a spa and sauna.

Exceeded Expectations

Posted 10-Nov-2014
Pros: Location and comfort of Garden Rooms.
Cons: The Hotel is in need of some re-decorating and refurbishmant.
I booked in here as I was attending the Football at Ipswich. Unfortunately I had to leave very early the next day to drive across to Newport in Wales and the Reception Girls were very helpful in arranging for me to stay in a Garden Room which was perfect as I could depart the next morning with the minimum of fuss.

Comfortable but a little tired

Posted 18-Aug-2014
Pros: Very quite and traditional.
Cons: Our room needed trouser press fixing and extraction fan in bathroom fixing. This gave impression of lack of detail to maintenance and cleanliness
Location: Lots of good Castro pubs in the area serving real ale and fresh fish
We found this hotel comfortable but a little tired and in need of a deep clean. The breakfast buffet was very good.

Tired hotel but ok for overnight stay

Posted 13-Jul-2014
Pros: Traditional character of the building and grounds. Pool was very good.
Cons: Maintenance needs serious attention, there is no excuse for damaged, broken fittings low standards of bathroom finishes, dodgy garden benches etc.
Location: Ok base to explore, Bury St Edmunds beautiful, v.expensive to park and old town can only park 2 hrs! Amazing market towns Long Melford, Aldeburgh : )
We stayed at the Belstead for 5 nights as a base to explore Suffolk. The staff were generally friendly and efficient & food was good. We were a little disappointed with the overall condition of the building, poor maintenance e.g. handles all loose in room, mould around bath seals, discoloured tile grout. Hotel has a certain charm but has seen better days and unfortunately now surrounded by housing estates which detracts from it's charm. Ok for overnight stay but much better hotels on the coast for longer stays.

All in all a good hotel in need of a make over in rooms but service and cleanliness was fine.
