Hotel ok in need of a refit

Pros: Breakfast, pool area.
Cons: Decore
Hotel looks nice, The rooms are a little old, decore poor & rooms in need of a refurb ie windows leaking, bathroom cracks & mouldy tv small & basic. Swimming pool nice & breakfast was good.

Comfortable but a little tired

Pros: Very quite and traditional.
Cons: Our room needed trouser press fixing and extraction fan in bathroom fixing. This gave impression of lack of detail to maintenance and cleanliness
Location: Lots of good Castro pubs in the area serving real ale and fresh fish
We found this hotel comfortable but a little tired and in need of a deep clean. The breakfast buffet was very good.

Tired hotel but ok for overnight stay

Pros: Traditional character of the building and grounds. Pool was very good.
Cons: Maintenance needs serious attention, there is no excuse for damaged, broken fittings low standards of bathroom finishes, dodgy garden benches etc.
Location: Ok base to explore, Bury St Edmunds beautiful, v.expensive to park and old town can only park 2 hrs! Amazing market towns Long Melford, Aldeburgh : )
We stayed at the Belstead for 5 nights as a base to explore Suffolk. The staff were generally friendly and efficient & food was good. We were a little disappointed with the overall condition of the building, poor maintenance e.g. handles all loose in room, mould around bath seals, discoloured tile grout. Hotel has a certain charm but has seen better days and unfortunately now surrounded by housing estates which detracts from it's charm. Ok for overnight stay but much better hotels on the coast for longer stays.

Lovely Hotel

The hotel was lovely and very good value for money. A big room with a three piece suite and very comfortable. Unfortunately there was not a remote for the tv and although I did enquire at reception and they said they would have one sent up, none arrived. Clean apart from the mould growing on the windows. Spa was also closed for a few hours which we hadn't been informed of before hand. But overall a very pleasant stay.

Can't argue with the price and the food's not at all bad. The staff need to go to hospitality school. They're not bad people, they're just badly managed and some seem to treat the guests as an inconvenience. The en suite was redolent of 1950s Eastbourne, the mattress was thin and the pillows cheap, nasty and uncomfortable. Decent pool though. Weird suburban setting.

The hotel's staff should be polite and welcome the guests with a smile, we felt they were annoyed every time we needed to ask something at reception, their attitude is not the best.
