“Truly Wonderful”

This was my third stay at the Diplomat. Whenever I'm in Stockholm, I always make a point of staying at this hotel. It's difficult to fault this hotel in anyway. The rooms that I've stayed in have always been clean, well maintained and plenty of information to hand for those new to Stockholm. I've given the comfort of your room 4, although the bed was nice and springy it did feel as though I was sleeping on a mat, rather than a mattress and I didn't sleep all that well. I would have given this a 3 had I not had somethings on my mind so can't be too sure if this had an impact on my sleep pattern. I choose to eat both nights in the T-Bar, which is where you have breakfast in a morning and is located on the ground floor of the hotel, it's also open to the public. The food is pricey but you get what you pay for. It was one of the best meals I'd ever had and two glasses of excellent red wine to help wash this amazing food down with. Breakfast in the hotel is just as wonderful with a good selection of food. Yes this hotel is expensive, but you DO get what you pay for. It's a wonderful hotel, wonderful location, wonderful staff and so fits in very nicely in a wonderful city. I can't wait to return!

Area recommendations
Ostermalm is my favourite part of Stockholm and also happens to be where the Diplomat is located. I love the area mainly because of the buildings. Although the rest of the city is wonderful. I felt exteremly safe walking freely around the city, no one bothered me. The Swedes speak very good English and are very helpful.
Getting around
My last two trips I've used the Arlanda Express to get from Arlanda airport. It takes you straight into Stockholm's central station and for around £50 you get a return ticket. The trip takes 20 minutes and the ticket is valid for 30 days.
Other
Flights... I flew with SAS and glad that I did. I had a direct flight from Manchester to Stockholm and the same coming back. Although the return flight was cancelled. This wasn't a problem for SAS with them being the main air carrier for Sweden, Denmark (and Norway I believe.) SAS put me on a flight up to Gothenburg from Stockholm and then on to City Airline from Gothenburg to Manchester. I collected my new boarding pass from the Arlanda and this served as both bording passes. I didn't even have to collect my bags at Gothenburg they went straight through. There was also the option of sending me via Copenhagen and on to Manchester. So there were plenty of options SAS had in order to get me back to the UK. Excellent airline SAS.

“Stockholm vacation”

I don't have enough wonderful things to say about our stay at The Diplomat in Stockholm. First of all the location--our room had a wonderful view of the city and the harbor. We could walk everywhere easily and the hotel thought of every detail. The breakfast buffet was simply to die for and we would definitely stay here again and we will recommend it to our friends. The restaurant was excellent as were the wonderful restaurants in the neighborhood.

Area recommendations
The center of the city, but not the Old Town--too many tourists. You want to see how the Swedish people live. I loved the area in which we were located, near the Theater and world class shopping and dining.

“First Class Hotel”

This Hotel is in a lovely location of Stockholm with lots of character. The staff make you feel very welcomed, the room was very comfrotable, clean, and nice to come back to after site seeing in Stockholm. I would recommend anyone to stay here if thinking of visiting Stockholm you won't be dissapointed.

“We really rated the Hotel Diplomat!”

We were very happy with this hotel in all respects. The location is excellent and the overall ambience of the hotel is great. We had everything we needed and more! We enjoyed fine dining in the restaurant and felt the quality of the meal warranted paying a little more than average! The hotel staff were courteous, but not over bearing,we were very clear that they were on hand for us,should we need anything. A good choice as far as we were concerned, making our stay in Stockholm excellent,Thankyou!

“Great location but quite pricey”

Ideally situated close to great shops and tourist sights and opposite the waterfront, it's a lovely old hotel with a trendy restaurant. Our room was at the side and very quiet and comfortable. However, the hotel bar is not cheap, nor is the breakfast. There is often a queue for the old-fashioned cage lift, but there is another one accessed off the lounge on the first floor which is worth remembering.

Area recommendations
Gamla Stan has beautiful cobbled streets and has some nice restaurants and, of course, the obligatory tourist tat shops.

“Excellent family room & great location”

We stayed at this hotel for two nights during a family holiday (2 adults + 2 kids , 7 & 10) in July 2011. Our hotel room was very spacious, comfortable and bright, and well-appointed. The hotel is well-located for all the main attractions in Stockholm, including Vasa Museum, Skansen . I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

“Overrated”

The hotel has a central location on the waterfront but lacks the space and layout which its rating suggests. It does not not have a conventional front entrance, lobby and facilities but is more a set of rooms above a restaurant. The quaintness of the early 20th century elevator quickly palled. Our room was very clean, but shin-barkingly small and the 'Courtyard View' claimed in the room description was rather grand for a window opening onto a ventilation shaft. The cocktail bar never seemed to be open, but this may be another example of the State's restrictions on alcohol consumption which hang disapprovingly over the city. The inclusive breakfast option was great value for money, but be ready to share the restaurant with numerous young families taking advantage of the even more VFM family room option . The staff were all charming and helpful. Late check out was available for two hours at £20 an hour, which seemed rather mean after a five night stay.

Area recommendations
Gamla Stan contains most of the tourist must-sees and is good for day and night. The attractive historic buildings face the waterfronts (of which there are many). However, parts of the city are reminiscent of 1970s Croydon. Boat trips to Drottningholm and the archipelago are relaxing and very pleasant if the weather is fine.

“Very enjoyable short break”

We stayed at the Hotel Diplomat for 5 nights in May and found it to be very good. The ensuite was particularly impressive and the overall environment enjoyable. It is conveniently situated within walking distance of the town centre and also served by frequent trams and buses. One point worth mentioning for U.K. visitors is the particularly high cost of wine and food in bars and restaurants in Stockholm.

Area recommendations
Take a boat trip around the Archipelago from the nearby harbour. Visit the Vassa (15th century warship, restored beautifully) at the nearby Vassa Museum. Take advantage of the extremely efficient transport system. Buy a 36 or 72hour ticket for unlimited travel on the metro, trams, buses and some boats.

“Fantastic location by the water in excellent neighbourhood.”

Like: fabulous location, gorgeous beds (you sleep like a baby!) Dislike: hotel staff could be more friendly

Area recommendations
I would recommend you stay in similar area to The Diplomat Hotel, which is situated in Strandvagen in Ostermalm. It is very convenient for Gamla Stan (The Old City), also for the many boat trips around the waterways of Stockholm and out into the beautiful archipelago. There are many shops, theatres and restaurants within easy walking distance.
