“Historic Elegance”
This hotel is beautiful. This is a place where you can attend an elegant wedding and spend the night. Delicious breakfast buffet in elegant dining room that was well lit with floor-to-ceiling arched windows. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They accomodated my two dogs and even supplied clean-up bags and a treat. Very convenient parking garage attached to the hotel. Your room key allows access into and out of the garage. The parking garage elevator takes you directly to the lobby.
“Nice Anniversary Destination”
The hotel location is very central to everything we wanted to see. Room was smaller than chains, but certainly more quaint and nicely decorated. Feeling we were in a living history book. Soaps and things above average. Found excellent eateries close at hand and the Shakespeare theatre next door.
“Hotel nice but town offers nothing”
This is an unfortunate situation where the downtown has crumbled yet there is a wonderful historic hotel sitting in the middle of it. The hotel is charming the neighborhood sketchy at best. There is a half way house right across the street and homeless and indigent hang out there. The hotel clerk told us to jump on the trolley that comes in front of the hotel. We did only to realize it was not a tourist trolley but one that was free for the people in town who have no transportation. They were scary looking people. The view restaurants we went to were okay. Needless to say, been there done that on to the next cute town. This one needs too much help to go back.
“A good one”
This is a very good hotel with a good environment. The famous American Shakespear Theater is physically in the same building. Hotel is clean. Staff are helpful. The only thing is that it is said to have "complimentary breakfast" on Expedia. But in the following morning, we had breakfast with the waitress in "ancient" dress. That cost a lot. Well, then we understand that there are two kinds of reservation: 1) a lower rate without breakfast, and 2) a higher-rated package including breakfast. I was blamed by my wife because I was "careless" when I booked on Expedia.
“Staunton best located hotel with an excellent furnature and calmness.”
it is so relaxing and clean hotel. The location is so comfortable as it lies in the center of the town and very close to the shopping street, station and most of restaurnts. Breakfast is poor and needs to be improved.
“Love staying here, we will go back next year.”
We loved staying here. Our function was at the hotel and it was great. We have always stayed at nearby hotels. Parking was wonderful and the staff was great. They have a wonderful breakfast in the morning. We will stay here again and would recomend this hotel to anyone.
“Modern hotel in historic area”
Very nice accomadations. Up to date facility in historic area.
“A great hotel right in the centre of Stauntons historic town centre”
The Stonewall Jackson is a great historic hotel set right in the middle of Staunton. It's clean comfortable and the staff are extremely helpful. I'd read previous reviews which said the rooms were quite small but we found it more than adequate. The bar on the ground floor is a good little bar and the meals looked good - although other than the cheesecake we never ate there. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a peaceful location. Staunton is a great little town with lots of places to eat. The pick of the bunch are the Pampered Pallate for great breakfasts and amazing take out sandwiches for lunch. For evening meals the White Mills grill on Mill Street is excellent
“Great place in a quaint town!”
The Stonewall Jackson Hotel was delightful. Conveniently located near good restaurants, the Shakespeare theatre, and other fun things to do. The rooms were very comfortable and well appointed. The Grand Caverns were amazing -- highly recommend a trip there. A nice value for a quaint town!
“Something is Different”
The desk clerk was a bit curt on Saturday afternoon. From there on in, the desk clerks were quite pleasant. We have stayed at this hotel many times and have alwas found it charming. This time, however, the room seemed worn out. Still. we will give it another try because we love the historical surroundings.
