“Beware of "Hitchikers"”
So the hotel is beautiful, the view is beautiful, the beaches and pools are fantastic. HOWEVER, we were assigned to the 1st floor in a room that was near the service entrance. Upon walking into this beautifully remodeled room, we were hit with the smell of pickles. We had no hot water and no room safe. The following day, we started seeing roaches in the bathroom. After 2 days of cringing everytime i went into the bathroom, i went to the hotel manager. She was sympathetic and moved us immediately to the 7th floor. The room was clean, neat, and smelled great. And the view was fantastic. So the last day we were there, i picked up my suit case to pack and OUT CRAWLED A ROACH! No doubt, a hitchiker from our 1st floor room! Needless to say, i shook everything out and thoroughly examined our personal items before repacking to make sure we didn't bring any bugs home. The hotel did remove a $150 resort fee from our bill to accomodate us for our 'roach' troubles.
“Mothers favorite Vacation Spot”
Our family has stayed at the Morning Star Resort on St. Thomas for about 15 times now. In fact we have held 2 weddings there. The location is perfect. It was my mothers favorite vacation spot who passed away this past March so all four of her children and various family members returned there this November in her memory.About the only thing we would change is the way the rooms are asigned. We book about 6 months in advance but almost every time we have trouble getting the type of room we paid for. This time when we checked in they said there were no more Ocean Front rooms available. That is what we had prepaid for. They are never very cooperative. This happens almost everytime. You have to really fight for the type of room you booked, and then all of a sudden one becomes available. Do they not have a record of how many people are booked in each type of room.As I said this happens almost every visit.Once you finally get the type of room you paid for the Hotel is beautiful. They could use a little more variety in restaurants. Only one reasonable place with a limited menu.
“Great place, great service, great food!”
looking forward to a return trip!
“Fantastic family vacation spot”
We booked this trip through Expedia requesting a beachfront room with a porch facing Morning Star Beach and that is exactly what we got. Beautiful view from our balcony/porch practically right on the sand! Just steps to the sandy beach or pool with the kids. There is also a 2 minute shuttle always available to Frenchmans Reef pools up the hill if you don't care to walk which is also just beautiful, several infinity pools overlooking the ocean with poolside service available. The rooms have a small fridge and also separate ice makers. If you are there for a week with kids, you might opt like we did to take a cab to the grocery store and stock up, in the end its less expensive for sure. There is a little market at the reception area for the little things though. There were a few times I'd wished for bug spray on St Thomas and St John's so keep that in mind. Staff was always friendly, we had no issues at any time, we did see a few people in reception have some issues - for example incorrect room or a wait... but the staff worked to accomidate until people were happy. This has happend everywhere I have ever been so that didn't seem unusual to me. I can't say enough good things about this resort. Very Happy Stay:)
“Needs new beds and friendlier staff, but can't beat the view and beach!!!”
The staff wasn't so great. Loved the Havana Blue Restaurant!!!! The beach was incredible and the pools were nice. The room definitely needs a major overhaul and the bed was HORRIBLE!!!!!! I never missed my bed at home so much. Don't even think about crossing the towel guys they were HORRIBLY RUDE AND MEAN!!!! The grounds were beautiful and the view was amazing.
“Awsome experience”
We had a great experience at this hotel. The staff was friendly and polite. The resturaunts onsite were wonderful. The hotel just underwent a huge rennovation and the new rooms are very nice. We enjoyed the new infinity pools outside very much.
“awful, overpriced hotel with horrible service”
do NOT stay here
“Refurbishing/renovations still in progress”
I understand that the hotel was under reconstruction prior to my arrival but unfortunately the "reopening" was rushed. My BR sink was not plumbed correctly and leaked water. The cabinet door to my refrigerator was off/propped up next to the cabinet. There were not enough outlets for the refrigerator to be plugged in with TV on - calls for extension cords. The radio alarm's cord had to be plugged in 5 feet away. Balcony tiles - chipped/stained. I requested daily wake up calls at 6 AM - and received them the first 3 days but unfortunately the 4th day, did not and almost missed a scheduled meeting. I was reassured I would the remaining days only to not get one the following am and I was late for my conference. The best part and most "refreshing" part of the hotel were the cat cafe houses. They were neat/clean and very pro active of Marriott. I enjoyed watching the cats and was glad to see the Marriott support the cat cafe idea.
“Will be wonderful when it's finished”
We were under the impression that the renovation was to be completed on 9/30/11. We were booked for 10/8/11. Only 1 of 3 pools was open, the swim up bar wasn't completed, the fitness center wasn't completed, the water shuttle to town wasn't running from it's normal location because they were still working on the dock and 1 of the elevators was out for a week. We also heard jackammering at 8 am. One of the restaurants wasn't serving dinner until "next week". This was a phrase that we unfortunately heard a lot. When it's finished it will be fabulous but we still had to pay top dollar for food and beverages and only had partial use of the facilities.
“Beach and view from 5416 the best!!”
My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon in St Thomas. I was very pleased with Morning Star. The beach is amazing!! The view from our patio was fantastic!! Can't wait to go back
