“Great hotel, great location”

The hotel is actually very well located since its walking distance from l'Hermitage, which is one of the most interesting attraction of St-Petersburg. Another good point: everybody speaks english in the hotel, which is not the case in general in Russia. The hotel has a spa and a pool that is free from 7 til 10 am. Nonetheless, there are some negative points. The beds are very soft which are not good for people who already have lower back problems. Breakfast is horribly expensive ( I suggest you eat elsewhere unless you don't have a choice). And the tv in the elevator is extremely dangerous (the edges are very sharp and painful if u hit them) .

Area recommendations

The Center of St-Petersburg is beautiful. A must see city (before you die)

“Excellent hotel, OK location, expensive food !”

The hotel itself is everything a 5* hotel should be - beautifully furnished, comfortable rooms, etc. - and the spa is oustanding ! The location is OK - close to the centre of the city and many of the sights, but not in a great neighbourhood and with no immediate bus or metro access. Only downsides are very expensive restaurants (£20+ breakfast...) and brusque service - although not bad by Russian standards !!

Area recommendations

The city centre is best - including the Winter Palace and Nevsky Prospect.

Must see

Must see the Winter Palace and Hermitage Museum (book online beforehand to avoid the queue). A trip to the ballet or opera at the Mariinsky Theatre is also a great experience. Museum of Russian Politicial History is interesting, but a bit patchy. The Church of The Saviour on Spilled Blood looks spectacular - inside and out - but there's not much else to it. The St Peter & Paul Fortress was rather a disappointment and Lenin's train at the Finland Station isn't worth the outing (couldn't even find it !).

“Simply the Best”

Our stay was absolutely WONDERFUL. The cafe, Seville Restaurant and the spa were TERRIFIC. We had a standard room which was better than we expected. The bed was sooooo comfortable. The hotel was within walking distance of the Hermitage. Walks along the Neva River were spectacular. We would recommend this hotel to everyone. A visit to the spa is a must.

Dining

Oken Restaurant is down the street on the opposite side of the river. The restaurant is on the river with a wonderful veiw of the Hermitage. The food was terrific and the waiters and waitress were wonderful.

“Impressed - super nice spa”

Hotel stay was great. Beds are huge, though king size beds are still separated into two matresses. Spa is very nice - though there is a 500 ruble surcharge even if you are a guest, and a very small "window of opportunity" to get in for free early morning. Furniture a little old. Service was good - though don't charge anything to the room - pay cash - they will put 18% VAT on top otherwise (basically you'll pay it twice if you charge on the room). Free beer in the minibar was a nice surprise. Remember that the hotel is Vassileski Ostrov - beware of bridge opening times. If you stay out too late in the center you're stuck. Otherwise it was a nice stay.

Area recommendations

Moscow and Rostov would be nice places to visit in Russia. Beware that everything is twice more expensive than in the US, and customer service is terrible.

“Do NOT book this hotel”

Rude staff, Food terrible (whatever u do don't order the club sandwich - turns up half eaten!) Location isolated. Nothing nearby and have to get taxi everywhere. Says 5 star would give it 2

“Great value for 5 star”

Awesome setting, loved the amenities, overpriced restaurant for the quality of the food, nice rooms, excellent gym, exceptional sauna and pool area, room rates was inexpensive but lots of hidden cost... watch out!

“Nice place to stay”

Sokos Hotel is located just steps from city center and sightseeing. Hotel has very nice and helpful staff. Rooms are very comfortable, the floor in the bathroom can be heated which is really nice in the mornings. Overall it's a nice nice place to stay.
