“Brilliant hotel! Good price, would definitely recommend.”

I booked this hotel for a 4 night stay in November 2010. Was really impressed with customer service before arrival- all emails replied to within 24 hours and in good English. The hotel arranged a car to meet me at the airport. (Would definitely recommend this as taxis are a complete rip off, and a complicated journey by public transport!) We were offered champagne on arrival, had a lovely room and the staff were really helpful and attentive. And they spoke good English. (this was a bit of a rarity in St P) Hotel staff very keen to help in any way. Let us use the business centre to use their computer. Also had a good range of foods for breakfast. We were located just off Nevskiy Prospekt, so close to all shops and not far to walk to centre of city. Lots of reasonably priced places to eat nearby- a wide variety of restaurants and cafes. Close to 2 metro stations and lots of decent shops. I really couldn't fault this hotel in any way, and would thoroughly recommend it.

Area recommendations

We stayed in the Nevskiy Prospekt area- close to the main shopping road. Would definitely recommend to stay in this area as lots of shops, cafes, restaurants. All the main attractions- eg Hermitage/Winter Palace, cathedrals, Church of Spilled Blood etc all in this area. We walked to the Peter and Paul fortress, although we got the Metro back. 2 metro stations were within 5 mins walk from hotel. We also went to the concert hall and Mariinskiy Theatre- by metro and walking. It was -15'C when we were there, and we walked to most places.

Getting around

Use the Metro! Its cheap (about 45p for a single journey) and although its all in cyrillic language, just look at the first few letters of the words and count how many stops till you get off! Have a good map as there aren't many street names.

What to pack

Take lots of layers and thermals. Also good waterproof walking boots. Most places have a cloakroom. Take a plastic bag with you and you can hang it up with your coat - with hat, gloves etc in.

Must see

Hermitage/Winter Palace Yusopov Palace (where Rasputin was murdered) Mariinskiy Theatre- home of the Kirov Ballet Church of the Spilled Blood, also known as Church of the Ressurection, or Saviour of the Blood Peter and Paul Fortress The cathedrals are also worth a look

Shopping

Just behind Moscow Station is a brand new shopping centre. Well worth a look, although mainly western brands. Only good tourist market that we found was opposite Church of the Spilled Blood. Haggle over prices as they will reduce prices significantly! Also the only place we found where people spoke fluent English!

Dining

Few places seem to have English menus- there are a lot of canteen style restaurants so you can point to what you want!

“Highly recommended”

This is a comfortable, classy, quiet hotel in a good location. The staff are friendly and speak good English. The included breakfast was first class, and a bedside chocolate in the evening was a nice touch.

Area recommendations

On or near Nevsky Prospect, which is good for most sights and facilities. Take a bus up and back, when you're tired of walking.

Must see

You'll know about the major sights, but there are lesser known and very interesting destinations too - like the Water Museum, the Train Museum and the Russian Museum. And the Singer building on Nevsky, with it's excellent bookshop and cafe.

“A great choice in St. Petersburg”

The hotel was delightful - very pleasant, quiet rooms and extremely helpful staff. Breakfast was extremely good and hotel located close to metro but also walkable to the center.

“Good Hotel for the price and location”

Really nice hotel. Champagne on check-in, always willing to help. Great breakfast, room was nice if not a touch warm. Great location, near everywhere. Recommend using the hotel car; they organised our transfers to/from airport and a few excursions which were well priced, plus its really hard (and unreliable) getting a cab.

Must see

You have to do Church on Spilled Blood (there are some good markets behind the church as well). SS P&P island you can skip unless you really need to see it. The usual suspects, Hermitage, St Isaccs etc. If you get the chance get to a ballet. We saw the nutcracker on xmas eve, really made trip (pretty reasonable price too).

“Breakfast delight”

I was in a deluxe room. The staff spoke English. The place was well located ...a couple of minutes walk from the main train station and the metro. Loved it and will definitely stay there again.

“decent location fantastic breakfast buffet included”

The hotel staff were pleasant and attentive, the included breakfast was truly fantastic, and they made a perfect cappuccino. The first room we got had strange window that were at the top of the wall but we moved to the back and the room was very comfortable. The only down side was it was a bit of a walk to the main tourist area (church of the running blood, etc.), maybe 15 or 20 minutes--or a quick cab ride.

Traveller's tip

take the boat tour at midnight when all the draw bridges open.
