“Saint Martin/Sint Maarten is a great island to see”
Saint Martin (French side) Sint Maarteen is a wonderful 37 sq mile island. It is wonderful to visit. The beaches are beautiful, great restaurants, friendly people and lots of attractions.
“Not impressed”
Checking in took a very long time and was chaotic Room was clean but smelled Airco didn't work Luggage pick up at the morning of check out took half an hour
“Quiet and relaxing”
Our stay was in the middle of March, the weather was beautiful to enjoy all the swimming pools and the beach, the food was great in the hotel and outside where there are plenty of restaurants. If you are planning to rent a vehicle have in mind that there is only one traffic light in the island and I did not see any stop sign anywhere; but the traffic flows. Anyways go there and enjoy it is a beautiful place.
“Ho Hum Hotel”
This hotel has a good location in Simpson bay. If you plan on staying out all day and half the night then this hotel is OK. The Pelican is functional but dated, built on a hill with no direct beach access. Please note that if you book a Pelican studio you will not have ocean view...only a view of the a/c units of the Marina residences blocking the view in front of you. If you intend to upgrade then why not spend the money on a hotel with more amenities. For us St martin is all about the water, beaches and sunsets, so Pelican is ok for those not looking for a hotel to provide mabience and pampering.
“Pelican Hotel”
We stayed at the Pelican Hotel and resort at Simpson Bay. There are two resort accomdations at Pelican, the older units and the new units. We stayed at the older units and had the lower lock off unit. The first room we looked at had a large black mold area on the ceiling. the next 2 rooms they showed me smelled like a damp place. Do not, I repeat do not say in the lower lock offs. they are below grade and are very musty. In fairness to the Pelican resort, the upper older units seem to be ok and many had fabulous views. If we did not arrive so late at night, we would have gone somewhere else. Avoid the lower lock off units but again, I would consider the upper units.
“Good hotel and location”
Staff is overall friendly although they will try to sell you timeshares when you check in (but you can say no as you enjoy your free drink, no big deal). Even though we got there before 1pm, they let us check in and take our things to our room (which was being cleaned at the time). The on-site grocery store is a great convenience and prices are reasonable. The on-site french bakery is also good. Not the nicest beach on the island (be sure to check out Orient) but definitely a great place to relax. A big plus is easy access to boating trips since they are on the Simpson Bay Marina. Trips offered by the hotel are also a great value (free bus to Phillipsburg), inexpensive tour of french beaches. They seemed to throw in free daily housekeeping on our room as well. Lots of restaurants are within walking distance on the main road in Simpson Bay. Overall, a great hotel for the money.
“not empressed”
It would good for people in good health. It is not on the beach.
“will definitely be back”
great stay. Right off the beach. Lots of pools, tennis courts, etc. Will be back in the future
“Repeat Vist”
I've been to St. Maarten countless times since 1986 and seem to enjoy the Pelican the best. The staf is far better than the other places I've stayed and is the biggest reason I perfer this place over others on the island.
“You could take a chance!!!”
Overall the resort was very good. I wasn't happy with the hotel service as they had me in 2 diffwerent rooms in the first 2 days of my stay. The management didn't follow up their promises to look after me. I don't like complaining - so it must of been a stressful situation to start with. I think the hotel is great but I don't think i would recommend to friends. The resort is actually in Simpson bay - not Philipsburg!!!
