we were delighted to learn that we were staying in a large apartment guesthouse rather than a hotel. the apartment had a large kitchen with all the necessary utensils so we could prepare most of our meals, saving restaurant meals as a special treat. the owners were very hospitable and made us feel quite welcome. the wrap around balcony was great for enjoying our coffee in the mornings and drinks or tea in the evenings. the sound of the river and rustle of the leaves of the surrounding rainforest was relaxing and beautiful.
This was our first trip to St. Lucia and we wanted to make sure that we stayed in a nice place but be near the local people to get a true feel of the island. Our wish surely came true. This is not a hoity-toity hotel that caters to the tourist that wants to stay onsite and get every need met. This place is nice, clean, very friendly with helpful staff. The beach is right there. The locals do swim with you but do not bother you. Petite Piton is right in front of you and all of the natural sites are in Soufriere. Many people come down from the Northern hotels and cruise ships for day excursions to this town.
We went snorkeling, hiking, saw diamond falls, went to the Sulphur Springs, had a private tour on David's family's plantation, toured the entire island, and went swimming every day. We did not rent a car. Trevor picked us up and dropped us off at the airport and drove us around the island, Thomas was a great guide that took care of us everyday doing close-by excursions, we took a water taxi to go snorkeling. Talk to David about your plans and he will connect you with good people that will ensure you have a great experience without a huge cost.
Breakfast was included every morning. We had a good breakfast with fresh fruit, great coffee and a smiling Kendra.
Would definitely go back to the island and stay at the Still Beach House.

St. Lucia was a very very nice visit/vacation of all we have taken together. My wife and I enjoy to the upmost! We saw the sights of the local area near the hummingbird hotel in our 6days stay. Well Melvin "Baby-Shaq" had more to show us, but I was just ready to relax and just enjoy the wonderful view from the beach that I could walk to from my room at the hummingbird, everyday. We spent so much time on the beach that we didn't realize how sunburnt we were until returning home. Enjoyed this place! Get with "baby-Shaq"! He will even take you on farther island adventures. Oh! don't come here during April timeframe for "Holiday Period" if you are a clubber, because dance clubs were close.
My husband and I recently stayed at Ladera while on our honeymoon and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The entire staff was friendly and welcoming including the owner, Holly, who we ran into several times. From the moment we arrived until we left, we felt like we we had the resort to our selves which really made it feel like our own slice of paradise. The food was outstanding, although a bit expensive but definitely worth it. And of course, the best part of our stay was our room and the magnificent view of the piton mountains. My jaw literally dropped when we stepped into our room for the first time. We were so transfixed with the view that we hardly left our room. The private plunge pool was great, refreshing but not too cool. We didn't have a problem with bugs, barely saw any aside from the moths at night if you left the lights on too long. The frogs are loud at night but that never bothered us. You get used to the sounds of the forest pretty quickly. Overall, we were very sad to leave at the end of our stay and highly recommend this resort especially for anyone who loves being surrounded by nature.
The location is spectacular. Best views! We loved the stay. We felt very safe in our private villa. The best part of the villa is that it is private, not connected to any other villa. The villa was a full house with kitchen, bedroom, living room bath.
