“Reliably comfortable”
This was my third visit to Seven Gables and the least satisfying, because I was in a room too close to the restaurant and the hotel desk and therefore noisy. Next time I'll ask to move to another room. I would also like them to offer the option of reusing towels instead of automatically replacing them every day. I will use this hotel again - it is very conveniently located for my purposes and the rooms are comfortable and nicely done.
“Awesome Hotel”
Great staff! Staff goes out of the way to help! A 20 min metrolink ride to downtown. Hotel is a nice corporate type area
“A Great "Un-Hotel" Option”
If you need to be in Clayton, this is a great option to a big box hotel. I booked a courtyard queen, only to find that it didn't open onto the courtyard, or have a view of it. When I expressed disappointment about this, and explained that I wanted to be able to open my window, I was upgraded to a courtyard king with two operable windows. My room was clean and comfortable. I would stay here again.
“Not a good place if you are over 40.”
This is a nice hotel if: 1) You like walking up stairs (there is no elevator). 2) You don't mind taking a shower standing sideways if you have less than 50% range of motion in your ankles (the bathtub was VERY narrow). 3) You don't mind walking a couple of blocks for a bottled soft drink (there are no vending machines or ice machines on the floors). 4) You don't mind not getting shampoo for your second day. 5) You don't mid not having In-Room movies. This hotel is for the 25-40 set who want to do the restaurant and nightclub scene in Clayton.
“Great Hotel, Old World Atmosphere”
Great hotel, old fashioned atmostphere, very comfortable and spacious room. Only issue - no elevator which can be a bit of a hassle if you are on the 3rd floor.
“charming hotel”
charming small hotel. staff was extremely attentive and polite. the "continental" breakfast included yogart, fruit, breads and breakfast sandwiches. the room was quiet and well kept. everything you could possibly need was within walking distance. I would recommend this hotel to any of my friends and my husband and I look forward to staying there again.
“Felt like I was staying with Friends”
Cozy hotel that didn't feel lilke a hotel. It felt more like staying at a friends house. Be warned that there is not elevator, so request a room on the first floor if you don't want to deal with the spiral staircase. Room was very comfortable and I don't recall hearing other hotel patrons all night.
“English Cottage Nestled in Lively Area”
Highly recommended. great alternative to the $300+ hotels downtown. About 10 minutes by car from the arch. English cottage feel in a good area - really feels like a boutique hotel. Don't expect perfection - subtle things make it 3-4 stars, but very comfortable and the price is really good (no, seriously) , it is.
“Great stay - wish it was longer”
We chose the Seven Gables after a disappointing stay ata a chain hotel in St. Louis the previous month. It looked 'different and had been given favorable reviews. We were not disappointed! While the location was not as convenient to our plans while in town, the service, staff, and the room more than made up for it. This is not just another cookie-cutter hotel, but almost more like a B&B in feel. The bed was ridiculously comfortable and the towels were the softest I have literally ever felt. How they accomplished that is still a mystery. Also, the adjacent Irish pub was pleasant and convenient and there were many other interesting restaurants nearby. The front desk recommended one for breakfast (we had slept too late for the continental breakfast) and we were not disappointed. Our only regret is having stayed only one night. We'll be back!
“17.00 Dollars a day for valet parking.”
The hotel promote valet parking, then when you get outside the valet employee makes me aware that he has no experience driving a standard transmission. His exact word "yours would be the one I would learn on if you want me to park it". There is a neat feel and it is in a great location but your first impression is a lasting one and my first impression was with the valet person. The Hotel is old so some of the doors dont shut, like the bathroom and some of the wallpaper is curling up where it used to be glued down. The area your in is great and no need to spend time watching the wallpaper peel. I have stayed at better and worst.
