Primrose Valley Hotel

Porthminster Beach, St Ives - Map
"A hidden treasure!"
Usually when your sat nav directs you down a narrow lane you become very suspicious! In this case the sat nav was correct and the hotel lies tucked away round the corner but literally 25 meters from the beach. The hotel has been updated very sympathetically form its former Victorian glory. The decor and furnishings were tasteful and pleasing to the eye. The receptionist was both polite but informally friendly and helpful. We chose a room without a sea view but with a small balcony; we only stayed one night and with uncertain weather, we didn't want to pay the extra. The room was compact, as was the en suite shower room, but the bed was very comfortable. For the evening meal, no hot food. but he hotel serve cold platters to order. This was no problem as the centre of St Ives Quay was minutes walk away, along the sea front and it had a wide choice of pubs and restaurants. The full Cornish breakfast was amazing, bacon and sausage being organic and locally sourced. Lovely flavours! Even the brown sauce was organic! In summary, a very well and tastefully appointed hotel with pleasant, friendly and helpful staff

"Beautiful property & Excellent hosts!"
We were travelling by motorbikes, & having read previous review re the location of the driveway, we were on the lookout for it! We managed to find it without any problems & we were soon in the gravelled courtyard area. I had been a little apprehensive about doing this with a fully laden bike, however it was actually no problem at all. We were met by & shown our accommodation of The Hayloft, by Sue, who was very friendly & helpful. The Hayloft was well equipped, & after a long day on the bikes we made use of the tea making tray & a sit on the balcony in the late afternoon sunshine to recharge! The layout of the accommodation suited us perfectly as we were travelling with our teenage daughter-we were able to be in the same property, however we all got our own space & privacy. There was a pub opposite the accommodation, however on recommendation we walked a short distance, about 5/10 minute walk down the hill to another pub (can't remember the names!). This was fantastic with real ale, superb food, and later in the evening a very good live band on! After an excellent night's sleep, we enjoyed our breakfast over at the main house. This is certainly as good as everyone else says in all the other reviews I've read! It was superb & fuelled us for the day's riding ahead. In fact, I'm sure I heard my motorbike groan when I climbed back on it to leave!! We will certainly look to stay here again when we next visit the area, and we are only sorry that we couldn't stay for longer
