“Better Than Expected.”
Just back from a 4 day stay at the Walhalla in St Gallen. The hotel is very well positioned for those arriving by rail as the station is about 20 paces away as is the main bus and tram terminus. despite this, the rooms are well insulated from noise. Reception was very efficient with all hotel staff exceptionally friendly and willing to help. There are two lifts and even on the one day the hotel was busy during our stay (Scottish football press) we never waited more than 2 minutes for a lift to arrive. Rooms are ultra modern and well fitted out with flat screen tv, minibar and free wifi. Coffee and tea are provided from a proper coffee machine. No sachets here! The bathroom was very modern and well provided with everything from soaps to earplugs and a sewing kit to slippers. The hotel has a popular restaurant and breakfast was as good as it gets. The evening menu was very attractive but in keeping with most things in Switzerland, expensive. A good bet is the bar which has a fairly comprehensive food menu and good beer at fairly reasonable prices. This was very well used by non-residents. A very good choice of eating places is available within 5 mins of the hotel. We were well satisfied with all aspects of our stay and highly recommend the Walhalla to fellow tourists or those on business.
“Great Location”
The Hotel Walhalla is very conveniently located, across the street from the train station. Check-in was quick and easy, with the desk clerk offering to give FF miles, unprompted. The free WiFI didn't work, but after asking at reception, I was given a free card for 30 minutes worth of wifi from SwissComm, which had very high speed. The room was bigger than normal for euro standards, and thick windows which blocked all street noise at night. No A/C, so important to keep windows open during they day. The room was a little dinged up here and there, but I've stayed in worse. An excellent value.
“An overnight stop”
We booked a room for 3 adults and the room provided was a double. The staff quickly corrected the situation by adding a bed ... but it was a little annoying as we verified it at reception on arrival were assured everything was ok. We were very tired after a long day. Thankfully this was the only downside of our stay. The hotel is close to the Hauptbahof and convenient for an overnight stop, which was our plan. The room had timber floors and felt a little cold but this is typical of Swiss hotels we have stayed in. The room was a good size but we used all avaliable space by adding a fold-down bed. The restaurant was good quality and reasonably priced (the breakfast buffet was excellent) ... The restaurant is also completely smoke-free, a recent development across Switzerlans we understand!
“Good hotel”
Hotel was good and nicely located close to station, which is very convenient. The restaurant is also good.
“Gute Lage, aber Zimmer unsauber”
Die Lage des Hotels in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Hauptbahnhof und der Innenstadt hat einerseits den Vorteil, dass alles gut erreichbar ist. Andererseits haben wir das Zimmer (im dritten Stock) als ungewöhnlich laut empfunden, das Quietschen der Zugbremsen schien ungehindert durch das Fenster zu gelangen. Größter Kritikpunkt war die Sauberkeit, insbesondere die Toilette war nicht besonders gut gereinigt, was gleich zu einem negativen Gesamteindruck geführt hat. Auch die Bettwäsche roch etwas muffig. Die Lüftung im Bad funktionierte nicht. Das Frühstück war hingegen sehr gut und bot eine große Auswahl. Insgesamt ist das Hotel zwar ok, die vier Sterne und der entsprechende Preis sind unseres Erachtens aber nicht gerechtfertigt. Wie gesagt war aber hauptsächlich die unappetitliche Toilette Stein des Anstoßes, vielleicht hatte da das Reinigungspersonal einfach einen schlechten Tag.
“清潔かつ快適なビジネスホテル”
国鉄の駅からとても近い（ただ、看板が控えめなので地図での確認が必要かもしれない）。徒歩圏内にCOOP等あり、エコノミーな旅行にも最適（店舗は日曜休み，土曜も18時には大半が閉店。もっとも、コンビニ的な店舗や駅構内店舗は比較的遅くまでやっている）。 ホテルの施設は珈琲メーカーが部屋に設置されており、自由に飲用のお湯が手に入る（粉末スープ等に便利）のは有難い。アメニティなども充実。ハンガーの数も多い。 しいて難点を挙げるなら、立地が駅前なだけに休日前夜は比較的遅くまで賑やか。鉄道の音も気になる人には気になるかもしれない（深夜・早朝にも運行便がある）。 総評としては、ゆっくり休めて便利さもあり、友人にお薦めできる宿だと思う。
