“Think twice”

Three main reasons why I don't recommend this hotel: Room was not clean. Staff was unfriendly. Charged money for the things that I didnt consume in the minibar.

“Excellent location, drab interior”

The Hvar Palace is in the ideal location in Hvar Town, literally walk down the steps and you are in the middle of everything but far enough away from the noise of the ferry landing and boisterous nightclubs. We slept well and both nights fell asleep to nice soft music from the Palace's restaurant right below our room, performed by two local men playing the sax and keyboard. The exterior if the hotel is as beautiful as it looks in the online photos, and we agree with the other reviews that the inside of this hotel needs a renovation. It is perfectly fine and clean, the bed was super comfortable but the bathroom and furniture are very dated. That said we would recommend the hotel. We were blown away by our view, we stayed in room 306, which we think was much bigger than most. It is one of about 6 rooms with a private balcony and it has gorgeous French doors that open to give you a near perfect view of the harbor and restaurant below. A wonderful breakfast is included. Also there is no AC, which caused us momentary panic (Hvar is HOT!) but with our balcony shutters open and the ceiling fan going my picky us and and I were perfectly cool and comfotable all night. Also the wifi in this hotel is in the lobby only --and works intermittently. Fortunately you can take a 3 minute stroll to the Adriana (the Palace's sister hotel) and their wifi worked for us no problem. Overall we were very pleased with our stay at the Hvar Palace!

Area recommendations
Hvar Town seemed like the best place on the island to us. We took the 17-minute bus ride to Stari Grad to take the ferry back to Split (beware--the last one leaves Hvar Town at 1:45pm!) and it didn't look like there was much in Stari Grad. our original plan was to take the ferry into Sucaraj but there is no reliable or affordable way to get to Hvar Town from there. Busses run only several times per WEEK in high season and our hotel offered a van to pick us up but it would have cost 150 Euros. Before you book a hotel be sure to check nearby nightclubs. If that's not your scene they could keep you awake at night depending on your hotel's location.

“Haven in Hvar”

The Palace Hotel in Hvar is great for travellers with varying budget with the added benefit of the excellent location right in the center of Hvar Town, and a short walk from the Catamaran drop off. The hotel arranged for bags to be taken from the catamaran to the Hotel. The rooms at the hotel were bright and clean and although we had a room at the back there were great views of the Fort. The bed was large and comfortable and the room came with 2 bed side tables, a chest of drawers and a built in wardrobe. The bathroom was slightly on the small side with a shower, sink and a loo, though if you had a room at the front rooms did have baths. The staff at the hotel were all pleasant and friendly and the breakfast buffet adequate. The restaurant was lovely set on a terrace over looking the harbour and the food good if a little on the pricey side. As most of the hotels in the area are owned by the same company you received a card on arrival that meant that you could charge meals and drinks back to your room, which was good as you got a discount and didn't need to take too much cash but did make it more difficult to track spending. The only slight down fall of the hotel was that being situated so centrally in the heart of Hvar town you could sometimes here music from other restaurants though this finished by midnight and was not at all intrusive. On the whole I would definilty recommend this 3 star hotel as a great hotel for all ages.

“Awesome location!”

Overall a great experience and reasonable price within the heart of Hvar.

When to go
Stayed in late September as tourist season was slowing down. Weather was terrific and congested tourist atmoshere non-existent from peak summer conditions.

“Great view, great location but dont expect drive up service.”

The hotel is comfortable and modern. It needs minor updating and repairs but overall it was comfortable. The locatiion was in the heart of the Plaza overlooking the bay. But there was no acces to the hotel by car. We had to park ay the top of the hill about 200 yards and navigate in the dark to find a path that led to the hotel. Breakfast was good and had a variety of foods. Pool was closed but we were able to using a neighboring Hotels pool; even though we found this out by chance and were not informedd by our hotel reception.

“Decent”

Great Location and the communal areas are lovely, though the rooms are in definite need of an update - especially the bathrooms.

“Great Location. Right in the middle of Hvar town”

The only problem was the rooms were not air conditioned, so the windows needed to be opened at all times. We had a room at the side of the hotel. This means you could hear the parties on the streets till the early hours of the morning. Not good for trying to sleep.

“Great location”

The Palace Hvar was in an excellent, central location relative to the ferry and restaurants. we had a room with a view of the harbor and the city, and at night it was fun watching the boats come and go. the room was very clean.

“Recommend to all!”

It was more than we expected! Location was perfect, couldnt get any more central. Reception was clean and staff very friendly and helpful. The double room was small but this is common in Croatia, very clean and room service every day. The hotel roof terrace was a real gem and great to have breakfast on. Wirleless internet was available on the terrace and in bar and reception. All in all very satisfied with our stay at The Palace Hvar

Hvar is small enough to walk everywhere and everywhere was nice....
Getting there
Take the fast ferry there, the one without the cars it takes about half the time, It leaves at 16.00 usually (when we were there anyway!)

“Good hotel but could host a VERY loud event”

The hotel is centrally located and in a beautiful building. Rooms are not great but they are not bad either. I would have been happy with my stay but at the second night, the hotel hosted a wedding with loud music at least until 1pm. The hotel is small and the wedding was on the terrace, so the whole place was shaking with music and there was no way you could sleep, no matter what floor or which way you were facing. I saw several guests complaining, including us, and the receptionist just said "But it's a wedding!" as if for a wedding it's totally ok to disturb the guests - so I think it happens quite often. We were not warned of the event and we were not reimbursed in any way (not even a free breakfast). So if you plan to book, make sure to check there are no events or be prepared to pay lots of money for a room that you cannot really use when there are events.

Traveller's tip
Take boat trips - you will see amazing islands and bays. Also, the island is very expensive so be prepared. But it's worth it! I will go back to Hvar but stay in private accomodation - nicer, quiter, cheaper and still 10 min away from the hot spots.
