“I think they need to organise the transfers from Split a little better, it all needs to blend in.”
We had to wait for 4 hours in Split before we could get the next katamaran. The one we wanted was full when we arrived. Going back we booked the katamaran the day before so there was no problem getting on it. We also had no one to meet us when we got off at Hvar and had to walk with our luggage to the hotel, all uphill and not a very good road to pull a suitcase. Otherwise the hotel was very nice and breakfast was good. The rooms were cleaned everyday and we found food in the pool area was very good. The girls serving there in that area around the pool were lovely and very friendly.
“Beautiful hotel setting, slightly out of town”
Free pick up from the port on arrival and drop off on departure. Beautiful location/scenery from hotel. It was about 10 mins walk away from the old town centre & port where all shops & restaurants were. Ok on way down, but could get a bit tiring to walk up every time, especially in the heat. We had a good sized room & bathroom. We paid for a Superior Room, but the only downside was that we had a view of gardens and it was far from the reception and had to take 2 lifts to get to room. We would recommend a sea-view room if you prefer to look at nice views. The other thing was that the bathroom floor would flood every time we took a shower, due to screen not being very effective. There was a nice pool area but sometimes a lack of loungers/parasols if you didnt go down early. The breakfast buffet was substantial and varied, but it could get repetitive after a few days. Free wifi was available throughout the hotel. All hotel guests receive a 10% discount off all restaurants and bars in their group of hotels on the island.
“Excellent accormodation”
Service was excellent. Food was great. Room was as advertised, clean and modern. Facilities were fabulous. Staff was always accommodating and helpful. Excellent accommodation for the money spent.
“Great Views”
Stayed two nights, just unlucky with the weather, it was supposed to be the sunniest area of Croatia but it rained on our parade the first day, second day lounged around the pool... The hotel has no lounges on the beach they have to be rented.. Hotel pricey for food and drink but lots of places in town a pleasant 10-15 min walk along the ocean pathway... Would go back again if in the area...
“Nice enough if you want a 'resort', but...”
On arrival into Hvar (by ferry from Split) we walked around town, through the otherside and up the path to the hotel. It is a very large, almost imposing building... almost like a compound. Regarding check-in, our room was not ready even though it was early afternoon. We weren't offered a drink or anything - just that the room was not ready yet and if we could wait. While waiting I walked over to Concierge and asked if they had a map of Hvar town... and no maps of town! : ) When they finally told us the room was ready, we went up to it and found the cleaning staff still in the room. Not the cleaning staff's fault, but the front desk's issue. Next, our "Sea View" room was more of a "Roof View". True that you could see the sea... but it wasn't what we expected. We met another couple that had the same issue and they were on their honeymoon - they ended up checking out of the hotel and going to a different one. The hotel is OK but if you are looking for a boutique than this isn't for you and it is a 10-15 minute walk into Hvar town - we would have rather been in town. The hotel does have a pool and a private beach. Overall the hotel has a feeling of an office building - I wish we had stayed at the sister property - Riva. That looked to be exactly what we wanted...
“Superb”
Really fab place...
“Worth A Visit”
Generally a good hotel, service was friendly and efficient apart from the Concierge who was clueless. Rooms on the small side but smart and clean. We were at high season so the pool was crowded although it was very well appointed. One afternoon was ruined by a full-on rave for the younger sailing crowd - the hotel should look to ban this. Although this review highlights some downsides, we had a great stay and would recommend this hotel.
“Fairly good, but could do better!”
Overall the hotel was fairly good; lovely modern room, well positioned, reasonable breakfast and in the main the staff were pleasant. Things that we were not too impressed with; not enough sun beds around the pool area for the amount of guests staying at the hotel, extortionate charge for using the sun beds on the much shown sea area - £70 for 2 even if you couldn’t find a sun bed by the pool, miserable staff serving around the pool (with the exception of Patricia, who was excellent), the bathroom flooded when the shower was used and there was no means for the water to escape which meant paddling around in 2cm of water until the room was serviced the following day – not too pleasant. In the defence of the hotel the 12 days that we were staying there they were operating at 100% occupancy.
“Great hotel with a few flaws...”
The staff was great at Amfora, the location was amazing, and the ability to bill charges from associated restaurants, bars and spa at other properties on Hvar back to the room at Amfora was extremely convenient. Unfortunately there are three major flaws that put a huge damper on our stay: 1. The pool - the pool has significantly fewer loungers available than the number of guests staying at the hotel. While the pool rules clearly state that placing of personally belonging on lounge chairs to reserve them is prohibited. The staff does not enforce this rule. Consequently, if you plan to spend the day a the pool you must get a towel and place it on a lounger in order to reserve you spot by 9 am. It was extremely frustrating to watch lounge chairs go unused for HOURS. 2. There is an outdoor dance club very close to the hotel. The first night we were there the music was thumping until 5 am and we could hear it even with all our patio doors closed. The next couple nights of our stay we lucked out and it started raining at about midnight each night so the party ended earlier. 3. Breakfast is a zoo. Try to go "earlier" around 8:30 or wait until it is almost over - closer to 10:30. Otherwise the large restaurant is complete chaos with small children running around, plenty of dirty tables - but no clean ones for you to sit at. On the brightside there was a huge selection of cold and hot items and the coffee was fantastic!
“Nice hotel”
Very nice hotel, recently restructured, calm place without lousy noise on surroundings at night. Comfortable bedroom, but little bit small. For older people with physical handicap I would not recommend it, since there are too many stairs without alternatives. Food and drinks should improve, much better alternatives in bars and restaurants downtown Hvar. Wake up early if you whant a deck chair at the swiming pool, otherwise hotel beach is a good choice.
