“Fantastic all round!!”

Fantastic hotel, location and staff. The staff were fab and called us when the northern lights were out. Brilliant food in restaurant too

“Great little hotel”

We stayed at Hotel Ranga in January 2010, and it was terrific. It is a ways out of Reykjavik on Route one so it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. I would highly recommend renting a car to explore the area from the hotel. The roads and signage are easy enough to get around to all the highlights of the region. The hotel does have a fantastic restaurant with a lot of local dishes (mostly on the fish side). Two Thumbs up

Getting around
Don't be afraid to rent a car. And if you do, they do offer GPS as well. This was a great option that made getting around all the points of interest quite easy.

“Will go back to Hotel Ranga just to see the Northern Lights”

Hotel Ranga is a beautiful log cabin style, very comfortable and well run - you can even ask them to wake you if the Northern Lights appear. And the outdoor geothermal hot tubs are lovely to relax in after a a long day sight seeing. The restaurant food is a bit expensive but room service is cheaper and just as good for the occassional night if you need to keep down costs. Hotel Ranga is in the middle of nowhere, so if you want the best chances of seeing the Northern Lights (like we did) then this is the place to go. It is an hour and half hour drive out of Reykjavik so you will need to hire a car but you get to see the beautiful Icelandic landscape on the drive there. It is however, more difficult to arrange some of the traditional tours from there (especially during winter season) as most seem to go from Reykjavik but you can arrange your own private tours (see Iceland tourist board website for tour operator details) and you are also well placed to drive to the sites along the south coast which shouldn't be missed. I would certainly go back there as it's such a special place.

Area recommendations
The Golden Circle tour - Geysir, Gulfoss, Pingvellir Drive along the main route 1 along south coast to Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, Reynishverfi and Vik beaches to see the rock formations. Blue Lagoon is on the way back to Keflavik airport, take the main road back as some of the secondary roads are gravel roads and for 4x4s

“Lovely river”

Iceland is an expensive country,room value fair,excellent dinner,lovely river,try and get river view and look for special.

“Amazing”

“Hotel Ranga à Hella en Islande”

nous avions une chambre deluxe et nous avons demandé à la place une suite qui était splendide: la suite 58 Amérique du Nord. Très bon accueil; nous sommes très satisfait de notr séjour dans cet hôtel.

“Lage am Fluss”

Die Lage des Hotels am Fluss ist eimalig. Aus den De-Luxe-Zimmern im Erdgeschoss kann man die Angler beim Lachsangeln beobachten. Absolut ruhig gelegen. Im Gegensatz zu der guten Qualität des Essens im Restaurant ist das Frühstücksbuffet eines solch teuren Hotels nicht akzeptabel.

Traveller's tip
Standort ist ideal um den Südwesten Islands zu erkunden. Empfehlenswert ist die Fahrt mit dem öffentlichen Bus von Hella nach Landmannalaugur.
