The hotel building is quite old but they have made efforts to update things including desks with additional three prong outlets. The air in the room was musty and the bed overly saggy in the middle. The blackout curtains were much appreciated and although everything was old, all the plumbing and electrical seemed to work just fine. Overall not a bad hotel but not a great one either.
The location is very close to the BART Civic Center stop and conveniently located along the F train line. Overall there is a large homeless population in the downtown area so it's hard to avoid being approached constantly.
"nice to be back in a heated room, with bathroom af"
was ok, checkin clerk was friendly, and helpful, offered the desk phone to make a call to confirm shuttle pick up for early the next morning. bathroom was big, room was spacious. door man was rude, yelling out to the shuttle bus driver- quick get their bags, they are Australians, they don't tip. While there is a difference between Aussies and Yanks and tipping, I do acknowledge in USA to tip and do tip, so he can shut it really. needless to say the doorman did not get a tip for A) not opening the door for us (even though I am capable and do not need someone to open a door for me and really wouldn't want to tip of for this useless service), B) why tip rude service,
The Palace Hotel was an extravagant and luxurious experience. It exceeded all my expectations in convenience (2 blocks from Moscone Center), comfort, great service, beautiful pool and elegant rooms. The lobby and garden room are breath taking. My girls loved swimming in the pool in the early morning, as it took a few days to adjust to the time difference on the West Coast. We all loved a late night hot fudge sundae at the Ghiradelli Chocolate shop located on site. Parking was included in our room rate, so it made keeping our car very convenient. Everyone at the Palace Hotel took customer service seriously, from the doorman, valet and concierge. Coffee and high quality hot tea in the lobby was also a nice treat each morning.
We were moving from Taiwan to Utah and needed a place to stay over night with our dog and cat. There was a $25 pet fee, which wasn't a big deal, but we only stayed for a total of 12 hours, just so we could get some sleep before the next stretch of the journey. We checked in around 10pm, check in was quick and painless. We got settled in the room. The room was clean and nice, nothing super fancy, but decent. It isn't in the nicest of areas, but it wasn't sketchy or uncomfortable. The parking lot was very small so when we had to get our car loaded up and out the next morning that was a tad tricky. They do have overflow parking with a sister hotel across the street. Overall decent stay, nothing fancy, but the price was right.
