“A Great Place to Stay”

Staff helpful at all times even though the hotel was very busy on both evenings of my stay. Reception able to deal with all queries effectively. Facilities top notch

“Lovely historic hotel”

The 1,000 year hotel and grounds were beautiful. The carpeting was a bit worn by the rooms but the bar, sitting areas and rooms were very nice. The woman at reception was friendly and helpful and the indoor and outdoor pools and sauna were free to use which was a great surprise. I look forward to returning when the weather is nicer to enjoy the gardens. There are also tennis courts and a golf course so an excellent retreat.

“very comfortable”

Hotel was perfect for our overnight stay. Very comfortable beds and all clean. Didnt eat there or use the facilities but would definitely stay there again.

“An expensive but lovely hotel experience.”

Although the hotel building and the rooms were old and in need of a little tlc, the staff were first class, welcoming, smiling, nothing was too much trouble within the bounds of what they could do for you. Facilities were excellent. The only thing I found was the charge for drinks within the captive audience... a £12.00 bottle of whisky was, in equivalent tots, £157.50 (35 tots).

“very happy”

Only stayed for one night but everyone at the front desk was very pleasant and welcoming. The hotel is extremely well presented and the room was great, especially the bathroom. The only thing that was wrong was that the entire hotel was very hot and windows didn't open very well.

“Short break holiday”

Pleasant but evidence of a need to upgrade the physical aspects of the building.

“Good overall”

Clean, smart friendly. Breakfast buffet was a little disappointing. We were one of the first to breakfast but still the hash browns and eggs looked like they had been there a while! Dinner was lovely though.

“sure, if you have a reason to be there”

We stayed at this hotel in order to attend a wedding nearby and the reception at the hotel. The services were great, the wedding reception was fabulous. The reception dinner by the hotel was outstanding. The buffet breakfast the next morning was about average but was pricey, it seemed, for the quality and variety of the food. This hotel might be fine for those wishing a rest and/or a country experience, and all I can say about the golf is that the course looked lovely under lots of snow. AS for location, it is much too distant from London, and from the train to get there from Selsdon to be a good base for London tourist activities. The staff at the hotel were unfailingly patient and polite, even under the stress of a major winter storm and Christmas week social activities.
