“Central location, friendly, small rooms”

Chose this hotel for it's convenient location between the main square in Sorrento and the local Circumvesuviana train station. It met those requirements. Reception staff friendly and helpful. Our street-side 1st floor room was small with a post between the windows. My 6 foot husband could negotiate it. Closet and bedside tables had no shelves so we had to be creative in stowing our clothing and luggage. Impeccibly clean. Breakfast had many choices but the breads looked good but were dry or tasteless. Could be satisfied with the rest of the breakfast options. Recommend Bar Rita next door for coffee and goodies. In the off season the only time it got noisy was groups gathered either to enter or coming out of the movie theater - not a big deal. Roof-top deck but no real views, but I'm sure it would be pleasant in the summer.

Area recommendations
Go into the side streets for restaurants and shops.
Getting around
There are two marinas, with the small (Marina Piccolo) having the ferries to Capri and Naples. Highly recommend the 3-day or 7-day Tourist Card for regional transportation if you're going into Naples or much travel during the week during your stay. 3-day card was 20 Euro and work-week RT to Naples was 10 Euro. Sorrento has its own bus, where it doesn't work, but there are others where it does. We used our card to use the regional train into Salerno and Paestum so this can be a good deal. The private ticket agent won't sell you this card, but the official ticket office upstairs will. Get a schedule for the Circumvesuviana as soon as you can. You may have to ask at each stop - in November many said "finished" so we got lucky. Sorrento is at the end of a line so you want to catch your train. Expect it to be crowded! Naples: very confusing. Only 2 metro lines and they don't connect very well. Circumvesuviana access is in one location, and there are other internal city trains that go out to Posillipo in a totally separate part of the train station. Go to the info office for help with regional train lines and keep looking! You'll be using the bus to get to Capodimonte or Certosa so get a guidebook with bus routes. People are helpful. If you get the regional transit pass it covers the Naples transit - metro, train and bus.
Must see
- Pompeii: In November, there were no site plans. The site is very large so plump for purchasing a map or audioguide otherwise you may feel you didn't get the benefit of the site. DO NOT MISS the Villa of Mysteries. Go last. It is a long walk to the other end of the site but it has the most complete set of stuccoes and they are amazing. End there, otherwise the rest of the site will seem disappointing. - National Archaeological Museum Naples: This is where the sculpture, stuccoes and objects from Pompeii and Herculaneum were taken so a visit here completes the picture. It's not far walk from Garibaldi/Central Station or you can take the subway one stop to Cavour. We fell into a tour offered by a guide - cost 10 Euro; well worth it. Don't miss: stuccoes & site items 2nd floor; mosaics, especially the famous Alexander mosaic - mezzanine; Farnese Bull and Hercules ground floor. No restaurant inside but they allow you to exit and return. Great free "coat check" to store your stuff. Herculaneum/Ercolano: Smaller site but fascinating. Pompeii was covered with ash and lava - Herculaneum was filled from below with lahar. You see multistory building here. Only partially excavated as the current town of Ercolano was built over the new site. Guide approached a few of us and it was again worth it. If no guide, get an audio tour. It's easy to miss the entrance to cross over to the harborside - look for it.

“Central location near train station”

The hotel is minutes walk from the train station, ideal for exploring the Naples area. Although on a main shopping street, the area was very quiet at night for sleeping. The room was a little on the small side so not good for spending too much time in other than sleeping. Location was our main priority and so size of room didn't spoil our stay.

“A great place to stay”

A quick walk from the train station. Close to restaurants, shops and good supermarket next door. The friendly, helpful staff were able to recommend and book day tours for us. The Amalfi coast tour on the smaller sized bus was great. I would definitely go back there.

“Great Location - Poor Internet access”

Great Location. However, I visited Sorrento for business and needed convenient daily internet access while there. I chose this hotel based on price, location and free wireless as described on the Expedia site. Upon arrival, I learned that the wireless was only available in the hotel lobby and that no internet access, wired or wireless, free or at a cost, was available in the rooms. I would not stay there again for this reason.

“"Sorrento's Best Hotel"”

I travelled a lot throughout the Italy, but that hotel by all means, was absolutely the "best". I would recommed stay in that hotel to anyone. The great and the most friendly staff at front desk - Theresa and Roberto are two superstars! They were so helpful with any questions we had, and we had tons of them. They were not only front desk ladies, they served us as a Concierge desk! Hotel is located in the center of the city, near the main Piazza the Tasso, walking distance to the train, port, any buses to catch up for the tours and any destination. Supermarket is the next door to the hotel. Information desk is near by. Rooms are super clean and refreshed every single day. Stayed at the hotel with the family for 8 nights, felt just like at home. Anytime I would go back to that part of Italy, I would book only that hotel.

Area recommendations
For sure Amalfi Coast - Positano, Amalfi City, and absolutely 'must' - Ravello Pompei and Vesuivus
When to go
We stayed from May 24 to June 2nd. The best time to stay - weather was super and crowd wise, city was pretty busy, but not overwhelmed with the touristy crowds.

“Perfect location”

For a short break this hotel fits the bill. It is clean, well kept and staff are helpful. Rooms are adequate with good showers. Location is perfect with only a short walk to train/bus station or to main piazza needed. A longer stay in the summer may warrant the need for a hotel with a pool, otherwise I would be happy to stay at this hotel again.

Area recommendations
Whilst using trains and buses are the cheaper option, these do get busy and standing room only is often the case. If you are in a party of 4 or more, a taxi is probably the better option.
Getting there
We used a bus direct outside of airport, last stop is sorrento station. Ideal if bus times fit into your schedule. Worth checking in advance.
Must see
Positano is worth a visit as against amalfi. Also, Capri. Upon arrival, walk out of docking bay and turn right to join the queue for tickets for the cable car. This takes you up to capri town where you can walk to other places.
Dining
too many nice places to eat. San antonios was good and well priced for pizza.

“Excellent location”

This is a very good three star hotel in Sorrento. The location is great, close to the Circumvesuviana train station and Amalfi bus stops. There is some street noise at night but this is common in busy Italian cities. Hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. Good value relative to other Sorrento hotels.
