“Refood”

Try the ir new restaurant Refood. It was wonderful and we were treated like royalty.. Great food, excellent house wine and a very good prices. A real find!

Area recommendations
The old town area is fascinating...narrow streets , good shopping , many tourists but still has a small town feel. It is a great base for visiting the Amalfi coast, Capri, Ischia, Pompei and Herculaneum. We were also able to take a direct and hastle free bus to Rome at the end of our stay
Getting around
Public transportation is excellent. We used train services to get to Sorrento from Rome airport, bus and boat services to see the Amalfi coast and the islands and a wonderful clean, comfortable direct bus back to Rome at the end of our trip. We are two ladies in our seventies and didn't take a taxi at any of our destinations.

“Savouring the Savoia”

Picked the right place when we opted for this little charmer. Family run with cakes for breakfast. The hotel rooms are actually in a residential apartment block next door, access by key card, but that's no hardship, and you are less than five minutes walk from Tasso Square right in the centre of Sorrento, although you have to watch for scooters at your back as the Italians often don't see the need for pavements.

Area recommendations
Tasso Square and off it the warrent of narrow streets that make up the Old Town, plus the harbour area. All have charm.
Getting around
The Circumvesuviana rail network will take you anywhere from Salerno to Naples. Don't take any notice of the garish graffiti that extends from walls to trains, it seems to be an Italian art form. The trains are hard-seated workhorses and can get very busy. You might have to stand all the way from Sorrento to Naples, more than an hour. Yes. it does go round the foot of Vesuvius as it follows the line of the bay.
Must see
Pompei, Herculaneum, Amalfi coast, Capri. Naples is a dirty mess. The guidebooks describe it as a 'joyous riot of life' - actually there is no excuse for piles of rotting rubbish being left on street corners right in the centre of the city. I can accept the grid lock traffic, the slightly shabby buildings etc but please make an effort to clean up.

“Nice family run hotel”

Plusses- friendly family run hotel, easy walking distance of railway and also main town. Great breakfast including eggs or waffles. Comfortable room. Owner kindly offered to drive us into town as it was raining hard for a while - we walked. Minuses- thin walls, bathroom fairly cramped. Road into town doesn't have a proper pavement for a couple of hundred yards - keep your eyes and ears open! Overall - Fantastic value hotel near the action. We had a great couple of days in Sorrento.

“Watch the world go by”

We stayed at the Savoia and found a few opportunities to sit out on the Terrasse and drink lemoncilo and watch the world go by along the narrow road below. It was a pleasant walk down town, a bit scarey with the traffic in places as the only footpath was a narrow painted strip on rough cobbles along the side. The road to town has not been there forever it is along the top of a large ravine still visible in places, at one point you pass by a very old building,a water mill, built way down at the bottom of the ravine and due to the steamy conditions the ravine is full of ferns. It was close to the train and bus station if you took the stairs under the bridge to avoid the long way round. It would be good to add clear instructions or a map to your directions. The breakfast was plentiful and all inclusive of eggs and pancakes fruit yoghurt etc etc Sorrento is a lovely town with plenty of things to do, we also took the bus to Amalfi and Capri is not far away.

Area recommendations
The old town for dining and meandering, the area down by the water for great views of vesuvios, the port to check out the fishing scene.

“Mediocre stay in Sorrento”

Hotel was ok, with convenient location. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was very small. I booked a double room but was told that only a single room was available. The room had a twin bed with a very uncomfortable mattress. Room was very clean. Hotel smelled strongly of smoke, although I had a "no smoking" room. Lots of stairs and one very old and very small elevator. Breakfast was nice.

“Very good hotel”

The Savoia was a few minutes walk from town so quieter than the main streets, only 5 minutes from the main bus and train station. We had a lovely big room with a balcony at the front and views over the front garden. The breakfast was as good if not better than the reviews I had read about this hotel and the coffee perfecto! Helpful and friendly staff. I've already recommended this hotel to 2 people and I would go back and stay there again if I went back to Sorrento.

Area recommendations
It's a nice town but we used it as a base to see Pompeii, Naples and Vesuvius. Get a travel card for the train and buses and it makes it even cheaper to get around.

“A gem in Sorrento”

This a great value small hotel which provides excellent service by friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are small but very clean and well furnished. The bathroom was immaculate. The included breakfast was the best that we were offered in our three week trip and would cater for all travellers' needs. The was a short walk from the Sorrento train station but out of the main tourist area so that it was quiet and safe. Would certainly return here in the future.

“To Sisters in Sorrento”

My sister and I stayed at the Hotel Savoia in Sorrento for three days....it was wonderful. The owners were helpful, the breakfast was delicious and the location was great, just 3 blocks from Piazza Tasso, the main square. We enjoyed our room with a balcony and would definitely stay here again.

Area recommendations
The area around Piazzo Tasso....good food, shops and fun to sit and have a cup of coffee and people watch
Dining
Fauno Bar was delicious....great Lasagna

“A great base.”

This hotel scores highly in its central location - it is five minutes from the centre of Sorrento, five minutes from the bus/railway station and has a couple of supermarkets at the top of the street - and yet it's on a quiet street. The only drawback is the lack of a footpath and the need to be careful with traffic. It is a family run hotel and the owners are both stars - always at hand and will give answers and advice for all. It is a bed and breakfast hotel and breakfast is more than you would expect with pancakes and fried eggs on offer. My wife and I were here for a week and found that it was excellent value. It's not a four star hotel - it lacks the sitting areas and the facilities of a luxury hotel, but you don't go to Sorrento to sit in a lounge.

“Ideal location”

Hotel Savoia is ideally situated as a base in Sorrento. it is a 5 minute walk to the town centre, bus and rail station. Another 10 minutes gets you down to the harbour. Overall we had no complaints with the accommodation - clean and serviceable for a centrally based hotel. Breakfast was a delight - plenty of choice. Home made pancakes delicious and a nice fried egg if you so desire. Staff very attentive, polite and courteous. I would certainly recommend this hotel.

When to go
May/June - ambient weather and not too busy
Getting there
Transfer from Naples Airport by bus very smooth and reasonable (10 euros) as long as check times. Picking up a taxi at the airport (we were delayed and didn't fancy going into city centre at night to get the train) cost us 100 euros, so be aware!
Getting around
Make use of all types of local transport - buses, trains and ferries. Very easy and much cheaper than organised tours. Just watch times and can ber very, very busy early evening.
What to pack
Comfortable walking shoes, light anorak and umbrella (showers and sun!!)
