“Loved it !”

Hotel is a very elegant building, externally looking very traditional but internally very modern - cool, chic Italian decor, marble floors teamed with stylish leather sofas and trendy lighting. The exterior paintwork is flaking a bit but hopefully they will tart it up for next year! Pool and garden area is lovely and completely enclosed from the very busy roads all around. Front of the hotel faces the Bay of Naples and Mt Vesuvius - fabulous setting. The 5th floor dining room looks out over the bay and has a small terrace with about 8 or 9 tables. The hotel lift goes straight down to a small beach directly below but you have to pay 10 euros pp for the privilege! You can walk into Sorrento , which takes about 15-20 mins ( but the roads are crazily busy and there is a short stretch with no pavement) but there is a complimentary shuttle bus which runs quite frequently which we used most of the time. It's a real benefit as there are a few restaurants in the area but mainly we ate out in Sorrento, which obviously has more choice and is more lively. Overall, we loved the hotel and the area and would definitely recommend it.

Area recommendations
Sorrento is a great base to explore the area. You can visit Pompeii, Herculaneum, Mt Vesuvius, the Amalfi Coast, the islands ( Capri etc) and Naples. The city itself is lovely , lots of narrow, winding roads with lovely architecture, great shops and of course restaurants!

“Will go back”

The location of this hotel is perfect. Having breakfast or an evening meal on the dining room balcony with the amazing views was fantastic and even when eating inside you have panoramic views of Vesuvius, the mountains and the Bay of Naples. The local public buses run frequently and are excellent for sightseeing trips. The hotel shuttle bus provides free transport into Sorrento and the driver went back for a second trip on the last run one evening to ensure that everyone got back to the hotel. This reflects the friendly service provided by all the hotel staff. Would recommend asking the reception desk to arrange a hire car to take you on a visit along the Amalfi coastline our driver negotiated the breathtaking route with exceptional skill, inspiring such confidence that we were able to relax and truly enjoy the tailor made trip. All areas of the hotel are spotlessly clean. The gardens and pool area immaculately maintained. Be aware that if you are an Expedia traveller you will have to pay for a ticket to go onto the beach this gives you a free sun-lounger and there is an additional fee for an umbrella. These are all free round the pool, including towels.

“Rather Disappointed”

We booked this hotel as we had seen good reviews about it on the internet. However the first room we were allocated we had to change after one night as it was so noisy at night because of traffic, mainly scooters. The rooms were quite small overall with a very small shower stall. Even those rooms with balconies only got space for a couple of small chairs. The rooms have a good size flat screen television and I believe that there is free wifi. The pool area was very good even in peak season there was generally enough sunbeds to go around. The hotel laid on some very good poolside dinners in the evening with musical entertainment too. The restaurant was on the top (5th) floor but was already uncomfortably hot, even during breakfast. There were no chiller units in use so things like the milk for breakfast cereal warmed up rapidly. We saw quite a lot of ants in the area near the food as well. The restaurant had excellent views of the Bay of Naples, particularly if you could get one of the few tables on the small balcony. The staff were generally very helpful with only one or two appearing slightly sullen. There is a good shuttle bus service that runs into Sorrento throughout the day and well into the evening and that is free of charge. The hotel is around a 20 minute walk from Sant' Agnello train station; not recommended if you are carrying your luggage. The public bus stops directly outside the hotel, as does an open top sightseeing bus which is a worthwhile trip.

Area recommendations
Sorrento centre is quite vibrant, particularly in the evening with plenty of restaurants and shops staying open late and is definitely worth a visit, perhaps for a meal.
Must see
A trip to Capri on one of the fast ferries is something that is worthwhile, if a little expensive. A coastal boat trip to Positano and Amalfi is a must, far smoother than driving along the very tortuous coastal road. Pompeii and Herculaneum are easily reached by train from Sant' Agnello or Sorrento stations on the Circumvesuviana line.

“Can't Wait To Go Back”

This holiday was one of the best holiday's we've ever had. The views from the hotel were fantastic and must not be missed, the staff made us feel at home as soon as we arrived and this did not change during our short week there. The hotel is suitable for families or couples that wanted a romantic week or two away. The food was first class in the hotel and the restaurants were on par as well. If you are lucky enough to go to Sorrento you must go to Pompeii but make sure you take a hat as the sun is full on there and there's no shade but I guarantee you will enjoy it. Overall it was money well spent.

Area recommendations
I found that Sorrento made me relax as the life there is much slower and nothing seems to be to much trouble for the people. The one place I think people should visit is Pompeii as it will open your eyes when you see want the people ha to go through.

“Poor customer service”

On the surface the hotel service is fine until there is a problem. When this happens the staff at the hotel work together tocover up any mistakes. In my particular case I was served food with 2 pieces of glass in it . When I brought this to the attention of the restaurant staff, they said the glass was in fact salt. For thenext hour I was beseiged by the restaurant staff including the reception staff and concierge telling me I was mistaken. On other occasions the food was not well prepared. When this was brought to the attention of the retaurant staff nothing was done. The hotel does not have a proper facilities list in the rooms and does not have any information regarding possible trips or excursions. The beds and pillows are extremely uncomfortable

Area recommendations
Stay in the centre of Sorrento not on the outskirts. Taxis are extremely expensive. This is not an idyllic part of italy. There is rubbish everywhere and it is more like a 3rd world country than a meditteranean resort
Getting there
Hire a car direct from the airport . Do not use the train from Naples. The station is full of muggers and pickpockets with no obvious police presence. Use the train to get to pompeii, vesuvioud and Herculaneum
Getting around
Use local buses. They are good value and reasonably easy to understand
Comment from the hotel's management
thank you for choosing our property for your trip to Sorrento and for sharing your opinion on Expedia. We would like to apologize for any inconvenience you had during your stay. We wish to answer to your revue and to offer our point of view. We are sorry to insist that you could not eat any glass piece. It must have been salt. That evening we had on the menu a Lamb chop decorated with gross pink Himalaya salt. More than 20 people ate that dish. All Lamb dishes were full of those crystals. No one thought it was glass except you. The restaurant and concierge staff showed you the salt. It looks like glass but obviously it is not. We think you already know this We offer our guests a big choice of private and group excursions. Unfortunately the group tours (that you intended to book) were not available in Sorrento in March (they start to run this service in April). Private tours are always available. We put the regular tours program into the rooms when it starts to be run to avoid confusion. About your comment of Sorrento being a 3rd world country: the answer is in the high number of tourists that keep on visiting our place and most of all keep on coming back every year for their holidays! Thank you

“Would stay here again!”

Hotel Mediterraneo was recommended to us and we were very pleased with the staff. Very friendly and helpful. The location is very nice and only 15 minutes away from downtown Sorrento. Easy bus transportation right in front of hotel and train station is 15-minute walk from the hotel. Across the street is an awesome view of the Bay of Naples. The complementary breakfast was very extensive. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Dining
Highly recommend going to Tavern Allegra for dinner. Very intimate and personable and music during dinner. The food is awesome!

“Nice, but beware”

Nice hotel. The hotel is a 4 star experience except the rooms and the surrounding location. Our room was quite cramped and the walls are very thin. The hair driers and toilets in the next door rooms were very noisy. Pool area is nice. The restaurant is nice and great views from the top floor terrace. The food and drinks are very pricey though. Staff very helpful. The resort is quite noisy at night-time - lots of mopeds and cars racing about. I was not overly impressed with the cleanliness of the roads in the area - quite a bit of litter lying around.

Area recommendations
Sant Agnello is a suburb of Sorrento and is nice, but suffers from too much through traffic. Nice views from the cliffs. Sorrento is good for restaurants, shops and night-life. All expensive though, but an overall good experience. Capri is worth a day trip as is Pompei and a drive down the Amalfi coast - stunning views.
Dining
Sant Agnello has a couple of good pizza restaurants by Hotel Meditereaneo and the Hotel has good food, but is pricey. The pool bar food is pretty basic though.

“We shall return!”

Our stay at the Hotel Mediterraneo was very pleasant and I would strongly recommend this hotel to other tourists. The service is friendly, helpful and prompt. The location along a bus line makes it very convenient and views from the 5th floor dining area are magnificent.

Area recommendations
Downtown Sorrento should not be missed as it offers a great variety of shopping and dining opportunities. If you like limoncello, you've come to the right place!
Dining
Two ristorantes we highly recommend are the Bar Veneruso and Inn Bufalito. Bar Veneruso is a great place to have lunch and take a break while shopping. Excellent service and a very nice bakery along with excellent pizza, pasta and gelato. Inn Bufalito is better suited for evening dining. They specialize in all things buffalo, be it mozzarella or buffalo steaks. The mozzarella was as fresh as it gets, almost a meal in itself when served with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, fresh tomatoes and basil. Lots of fun but you need to be patient as they do not believe in a hurried dining experience. Relax with a bottle of wine and enjoy the ride - it's not a fast food establishment!

“Confusion at check-in”

Other than the problem at check-in the hotel was lovely, and well maintained. It was in a lovely area with scenic views. The room was very nice.

Area recommendations
The area that this hotel is in would be my recommendation. It is close to the town of Sorrento. Very good restaurants in the area.
