“Not bad at all and lovely staff”
Nice hotel. Didn't have the wow factor but very clean and helpful staff made the stay very comfortable. Good food and nice breakfast. Was a long walk from Sorrento centre though and no sea views. Could have done with more minibus runs and maybe a minibus to the station would have helped and saved time and money. Thank you for a lovely stay though and we would go back :)
“Nice hotel - breakfast service could be better”
Very clean hotel - bar staff very helpfull. Rooms a bit snug for an 8 day stay - just some hooks on the wall to hang up towels would help. Not enough storage space. Breakfast was running buffet - collect everything yourself. Including your own teas and coffees. Had to go up and down 8 little steps to get the breakfast - so be warned for anyone who struggles with stairs - you have no option. The tables were already half laid up for dinner service so always came in and struggled to find a table which was a bit annoying. The 'english' bit of the breakfast needs improving. The scrambled egg nor bacon cooked for long enough and only frankfurter sausages served. So this could truly be improved. Everything else about the breakfast was fine. Reception staff helpful. Enjoyed the hotel - if the storage space in the rooms could be sorted simply - hooks in the bathroom to hang up cosmetic bags and wet towels would help. We would have reused our towels more had we been able to dry them. Why not add a little washing line which retracts into the wall across the bath area - that would help.
“REALLY friendly hotel”
All of the staff in Hotel Caravel were very friendly and helpful- including the cleaner who even helped us with our italian pronunciation! I think this is the friendliest place I have ever stayed. It is about 15 minutes walk from the centre of Sorrento but they run a free bus too and from the centre regularly. Would definitely recommend.
“Wonderful holiday, would be back in a flash”
The hotel was excellent. The staff dealt with all queries and couldn't be more helpful, they provided help with trains and buses, don't be afraid to ask. If you have to book out hours before your flight there is a room available for you to shower and change, don't bother trying to pay extra to keep your room. Wonderful hotel, brilliant staff would return in a flash.
“Nothing Special - Slow Service But Otherwise Fine”
The hotel appears to cater to a slightly older age group than our group was (our group age range was 26-32). The hotel has a list of rules upon arrival, some were helpful and informative whereas others were more restrictive. Pros - quiet hotel - clean rooms, with a safe - nice breakfasts - courtesy bus to Sorrento (although limited times and a limited number of spaces) - roof terraces - helpful reception staff - especially for organising day trips or transport to the airport - upon hearing that it was a friend's birthday, the staff put a candle in his food Cons - limited hotel menu/variety (especially poor for vegetarians) - quality of the main courses each evening (and this typically consisted of beef, roast chicken, turkey - all cooked badly - rather than what I deem more Italian dishes) - extremely slow service - we ended up stacking our plates each night to help out - location - not that much in the surrounding area - sun beds around the pool have a short window frame for getting the sun
“Excellent value for money”
STAFF: Excellent... Particularly the Front Desk, Restaurant, Maid, Bar & Courtesy Bus Driver were brilliant - all efficient, polite, friendly & very helpful. FOOD: Only had breakfast which was self service. This did not vary by day but range of options, quantity & quality of food meant this was not a problem. LOCATION 1. At least 15 Mins walk from the main square in Sorrento & most restaurants. Not a problem for most people as all of the route is lit - though some is without pavement. Courtesy bus drop-off point is 2 mins from square but bus times may not always suit. 2. 10 mins walk from Sant Agnello station with excellent & cheap train links to Naples, Pompeii & Herculaneum/Vesuvius. Also a stop for the regular Curreri Viaggi bus to Naples Airport. 3. Well situated to get away from the crowds (by foot or bus) and into the local countryside for some seriously good walking. POSSIBLE NEGATIVE: Depending on your room location I suspect it might be a bit noisy in the high season (mainly road traffic & other residents) - nothing ear-plugs won't fix.
“nice hotel and friendly staff”
This hotel was filled with friendly knowledgable staff who were always ready to help. The pool looked lovely but the weather stopped us using it sadly. It is not in sorrento but just near by with a coach which can take you there and back for free but if youre going to pompeii vesuvius etc its not an issue as there is a train station in sant agnello.
“Ideal location”
Hotel Caravel is in an ideal location for walking into Sorrento and easy access for buses and trains for other attractions. It has a small pool and garden in a quiet residential area. Our room had a great view of the mountains and over part of the bay of Naples. Just down the road is a great local restaurant that serves great pizza!
“Not impressed with area around Sorrento”
Hotel was good and all staff were very friendly and helpful although breakfast appeared to come as a suprise to them some days. You cooked your own boiled eggs and toast which unfortunatly was an alien concept to some of the other guests (those who hog sun beds) as they were regularly taken by others. Sorrento was a safe and pleasent 20 minute walk away. Generally traffic was horrendous, lots of time lost stuck in jams due to the closure of a road tunnel on the SS145 but this re-opens in a few weeks so hopefully will improve. I was surprised at how rundown and filthy the general area was, with most places covered in vast quantities of rubbish such as mattresses and bags of waste and dog muck was everywhere. Visits to Pompei, Herculaneum, Capri and climbing Vesuvius are very recommended. As usual and as expected, food and particularly drink was expensive but generally quite good. Avoid the local pizza restaurant (about 250 yards away from the hotel) like the plague.
“Very good for couples.”
Clean, comfortable, tasty.
