“Spectacular views.”

Everything was perfect, the room, the facilities and the staff. Location is excellent with an easy walk and / or bus ride into town. Town has a very safe and clean feel, the opposite of Naples.

Other
Sorrento railway station and attractions (Pompeii and National Museum) do not accept credit cards - be prepared to use cash. No automatic ticket machines at the station - be prepared for a long wait (1st time a couple of minutes only, second time 20 minutes, both around 11:00 on different week days).

“Would stay there if we go back to sorrento”

We stayed at the Belair for four nights and found it a fabulous place to stay. It isn't right in the heart of the town and is a ten minute walk to and from, and up the hill on the way back. The views from our balcony were spectacular. The staff were so helpful and as we had an early flight home they even made us up a doggy bag for breakfast to take with us. Would definately recommend to others.

Area recommendations
It was wonderful to walk down to the fishing village below the Belair in the evening and then walk up into the main square to sit and have a drink and watch the entertainment of the cars and mopeds whizzing around. The general centre of Sorrento is very pretty with plenty of reasonable and good places to eat.
Must see
We went to Herculaneum and found it a much more intimate experience than Pompei. You could sense the atmosphere and if you can only do one, Herculaneum for us was the better.

“One of the best views of Sorrento town, harbour and the coastline”

Very charming hotel, amazing views of Sorrento, great service and lovely friendly staff. Hotel is a little dated as are most of the hotels in the Amalfi and is all part of the charm. Lovely breakfast - great choice and very relaxed, and dinner quality excellent and again fabulous views to dine. Pool quite small but large enough for the number of people in the hotel. 1 km to Sorrento town but not too taxing walk - a nice steady incline so good to have an evening walk back to hotel after dinner. Sorrento has lots of great restaurants and bars with a really nice atmosphere. The harbour is great for visits to Capri, Positano and Amalfi and dont forget a visit to Pompei - amazing - easy on the train as stop right at the entrance. Ravello is enchanting so a must see on the itinerary. Hotel Belair is a great base for visiting the area and would highly recommend!!

“Wonderful Sea View Balcony - Hotel Room not Impressed”

Hotel Belair - Staff was friendly, good service, helpful. The only food we had at the hotel was the included breakfast and we were not that impressed for a four star hotel. Had wonderful breakfasts at hotels in Rome, Florence and Venice - all 4 star. Basically breakfast choices were not that good- just basic continental breakfast fare, -- if you wanted eggs, bacon, ham, etc you had to ask for it - eggs were pretty terrible the one time we asked for them. Every other 4 star hotel we stayed at had fresh, fluffy scrambled eggs and bacon on buffet as well as variety of fresh fruits, croissants, wonderful pastries and breads, cheeses, etc. So this breakfast was definitely a disappointment. We did speak with other guests who were having dinners there and they raved about the food -- they said they were on full board???? Since we didnt eat dinner there dont know. They made great drinks - reasonable prices. This is an older hotel, classy in its time, and still tries hard to maintain that character. Do you remember the movie "Dirty Dancing" -- for some reason the hotel had that kind of feel to it. Clean and well maintained , just a little outdated if you like modern amenities and feel. The room had a sea view balcony which is the best feature of this hotel along with the pool - all seaview cliffside. Our room was pretty barren, no frills, just basic, for a deluxe room. Beds were very hard - not comfortable. I would say this hotel is a 3 star -- not a 4 star hotel.

Area recommendations
The Via Capo is very nice for its gorgeous views of the town of Sorrento, the Bay and mountains. Locations in town, you dont have this view. The Hotel Belair was further from town though it still was walkable to the city center of Sorrento. Recommend the neighborhood, but another hotel we walked by each day seemed more modern and elegant though we did not stay there but you may want to look it up...Hotel Capodimonte. Looked very, very nice from the outside with a rooftop pool. Hotel Belair has a beautiful view and balconies overlooking the cliffside ,pool, the town of Sorrento, and the Bay. You can't beat their view and they have good service - hotel is great if you get a good rate and you are not a stickler for modern comfort and elegance. However, there may be other hotels in the area with more comfortable rooms and better breakfast included.

“Hotel Belair met all our expectations”

We have just returned from Sorrento where we stayed at the Hotel Belair. The location, for us, was perfect. Beautiful views from hotel rooms which are extremely clean and comfortable and a good size. The hotel overall was spotless. The choice at breakfast was first rate and included fresh fruit and gorgeous pastries and croissants. There were several choices of juice, breads, cold meats, cheese and you could even have a cooked breakfast on request. There was something for everyone. The walk into central Sorrento takes about 20 minutes which was fine for us who are early 50s and fairly active. Probably not so good if you don't enjoy walking. The swimming pool area though not overly large, was private and intimate and again, clean and well kept. To be honest, I could not find anything negative to say about the hotel. The staff were also very helpful, pleasant and professional in all respects. I would definitely recommend this as a solid hotel if you are choosing 4*.

Area recommendations
Capri is worth a visit by ferry and is easy to reach.
When to go
July is a good month and not too busy. The weather is also good, around 30 degrees.
Getting around
Walking is good if you are fairly active.

“An experience not to be missed.”

After arriving from Rome after a conference, I was excited to view my room for the first time and the stunning panorama of The Bay of Naples and Sorrento from the balcony. It was everything I had imagined. Just stunning. As I was on my own for a few days to visit the Sorrento area it was a relief and comfort how helpful the hotel staff were. Particularly Francesco, who helped me organise day trips, look up timetables, book transfers and in general made me feel very welcome. I highly recommend the day trips from the hotel, such as the Amalfi Drive, and Pompeii Vesuvius full day tours. The tour company they use is friendly, fun and at the same time very professional and informative. A fantastic few days and I will definitely come back again.

When to go
I was there late October and the weather was mild to cool but all tour operators were still operating. A lot of hotels close after 31 October, but not The Belair. You can experience this great hotel all year around.

“It's a must stay if you're going to Sorrento!”

It is a FABULOUS place to stay. It is even better than the pictures on the internet. The staff is exceptionally friendly, the room is spacious and the balcony overlooking the Bay of Naples was gorgeous. You hated to leave the hotel but we did and we loved coming back home every day. We enjoyed the Isle of Capri (go when the cruise ships are not in town), the town of Sorrento, the ride to the Amalfi coast, and Pompeii. The walk to town was an easy 10 minutes with sidewalks. If you want to take the bus - walk across the street. The location was great - it was quiet and very relaxing. The buffet breakfast was delicious. Eggs to order each morning and a variety of fruit, meats, cheese, breads and a friendly staff. Every night they had a piano player in the lounge - it was a great, great place to stay! If the weather is nice you can sit out on the balcony for your meals - our weather was perfect so we enjoyed a relaxing breakfast in the sunshine. We had full view of Sorrento and at night it is spectacular with all the lights. I highly recommend that you stay at this hotel and try to get rooms ending with 3-12, i.e. 103, 312, 208. It appeared some of the rooms might have an obstructed view to the City but not the Bay of Naples. I don't know that for sure but it appeared that way looking from my balcony. We were on the 2nd floor. I highly recommend this Hotel

Area recommendations
I would recommend this area - Sorrento is beautiful and the people are all delightful.
When to go
We went the last week in Sept and first week of October.
Dining
Ristorante Delfino in the Marina Grande. Order the catch of the day but split it with your partner. It was delicious but way to much food. Maybe it was because we had a delicious clam and mussel appetizer with broth that just had to be sopped up with bread :) Also, we enjoyed Donna Sophia - the hotel will make the reservations for you and the driver will pick you up. It's a very interesting and fast ride to the hotel. We sat outside in the patio area - the meal was very good but large portions.

“Elegant hotel in magnificent position”

A really pretty hotel in a lovely position overlooking Sorrento, Bay of Naples and Vesuvius. Rooms elegantly furnished, pool and pool area spotless, staff mostly brilliant. Breakfast (the only meal we took) was good although lacked fresh fruit. Restaurant and entertainment apparently high quality - although we ate in town as there's such a big choice of restaurants within walking distance. Good hotel for romantics, honeymooners - and old codgers like us!

Area recommendations
There aren't really any "wrong" areas of Sorrento although some can be on noisy roads. Although Belair is on main road it is built into cliff face so the only thing at street level is the lift - eveything else faces the sea and is below street level.

“What a Gem!!”

We selected hotel Belair as a result of reading other traveller reviews and we were not disappointed. The hotel has an old world charm and character, with friendly staff, very clean rooms and nothing is to much trouble. we would definately return. Sorrento is a lovely place to visit together with the obvious tourist attractions - Pompeii, Capri etc (all are extremely busy!!)- but we Would recommend that if you book trips you fully understand what is / is not included in the cost as we were caught out with admission fees being excluded!! Hiring a boat for the day is a must - we used Nautica Sic Sic based at the port - they were great and it was a chance to find a quite bay away from the crowds to relax and see the Amalfi coast from the water. Overall we have stayed in some amazing hotels around the world, but its nice to stay in one where the reception staff remember the conversation you had with them yesterday, are genuinely interested in your plans, and are happy to assist to really make your stay memorable (without you feeling like they are just doing it for the tip!!)

Area recommendations
Hire a boat!! - Great fun and a real sense of independence. Visit Pompeii by train - station at pompeii is literally outside the entrance to the ruins. Go up Vesuvius - its a real sense of acheivement getting to the crater and the views are amazing. Capri was so busy it made getting around difficult, but if your happy to go walking you can easily avoid the crowds - take your own picnic and it really is a beautiful place - stick with the mainstream and you feel a bit like cattle!!
Getting there
If you get a taxi from Naples agree the price up front!!
Must see
Cloisters in Sorrento - they often have weddings here, and take time to walk around Sorrento it really is a beautiful place.
Outdoors or beach
HIRE A BOAT - We did this for a day and it was fantastic - away from the crowds, total peace in a quiet bay!!
