“Will go back to this hotel”
This medium size hotel on six floors is almost perfect. It has beautifull well maintained grounds and is located on the cliff overlooking the bay of Naples on a fairly busy street that runs parrallel to the main street/square in Sorrento, about 10 minutes walk away. The hotel standards are high in cleanliness and service, and our room on the 6th floor with balcony overlooking the bay and Vesuvius was amazing. Our only criticism is the hotels rigidity as to when air conditioning is available and when the pool is heated, regardless of outside temperatures, which makes autumn and spring visits a bit of a gamble in that regard.
“Excellent Service, Food and Location.”
The hotel was very clean and the staff very curteous and friendly. I was a bit disappointed that the outdoor pool was not heated or cleaned and had bugs in it. There did not seem to be a beach either although a private beach is advertised. The food was excellent , this included the room service and the restaraunt. The hotel is very conveniently loacated for all the local amenities. The tour buses also pick you up outside the hotel. If I visited Sorrento again I would definately stay at this hotel.
“Good Holiday”
It was really easy catching the bus to Sorrento and then finding the hotel, there are beautiful views of the volcano accross the bay. It was a good location and an easy walk into the town. There was lots of choice at breakfast and all the staff were efficient and helpful. The room was really comfortable and clean. I would recomend this hotel and we had a really relaxing holiday.
“Location location”
Lovely hotel. Views from rooms spectacular - and from terrace. Lift down to very well equipped water terrace as well as the swimming pool at the top. Staff extremely helpful - nothing is too much trouble - English is spoken and understood perfectly. It is a very easy hotel. The location is very good being 2 minutes level walk to the station (for Pompei and Naples etc) and 4 minutes level walk to the main square. I would suggest only bed and breakfast as there is such wonderful restaurants in Sorrento - and I thought the lighting in the main restaurant was a bit bright - it gets very busy with people on half board. We didn't eat there so don't know the standard of food. We ate at the pool terrace at lunchtime several times and it was fantastic - food, views, service. Very friendly, not stuffy, just relaxing. The only negative is room service which costs 5 euros per person before you have ordered anything! (which makes, say a cup of tea in the room, not impossible but mega expensive.) Apart from that the prices in the bars and lunchtime terrace were very reasonable. I would return without hesitation.
“Impressive Sorrento Hotel”
An excellent hotel. Spacious rooms with marble floors: excellent, reasonably priced meals, snacks and drinks; spacious and well-furnished patios with stunning views of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius; helpful staff. Four criticisms 1. the paths around the swimming pool were treacherously slippy when wet and several people had bad falls that might have been more serious - this deficiency needs needs addressing urgently; 2. The air conditioning in the room, although very efficient was noisy during the night and disturbed our sleep. 3. The housekeepers continually failed to replace used shower gel although this was immediately rectified when drawn to the attention of the reception - but the hotel failed to ensure that the housekeepers subsequently addressed the issue; 4. The cost of transfer by taxi between the Naples Airport and the hotel by taxi was expensive and the hotel should be encouraged to provide a mini-bus or similar cheaper transport between the hotel and the airport.
“Stunning.”
From arrival to departure everything at this hotel was excellent. Position was great, near the centre of town. Staff friendliness and helpfulness was second to none. Food was fantastic. Room and facilities were spotless. Views from room were spectacular. This hotel was one of the best I have stayed in and I couldn't fault it in any way.
“Relaxation, relaxation, relaxation.”
What a fantastic hotel. Perched on the cliff with amazing views, the Grand Hotel Royal was what every hotel should aspire to. The staff were amazing and really couldn't do enough for you. The food was great. Maid service was efficient and top class. Surroundings were relaxing. It was within walking distance of everything you needed. Trip from the airport was a breeze. Bus stop 1 outside the terminal the currei viaggi bus 10 euros each to the train station in Sorrento and a 5 minute walk across the square to the hotel. There always has to be slight room for improvement as there is never perfection so..... tea and coffe making facilities in the room would be helpful. The outside could do with a lick of paint. Other than that if you want a relaxing hassle free holiday with service as good as I have experienced anywhere then this is the place to go. Hats off to you Grand Hotel Royal!
“Sorrento is expensive but you will not be disappointed by the value for money offered by the Royal.”
The Royal is a quality hotel, located in a very convenient part of the town with wonderful views over the Bay of Naples to Vesuvius - so make sure you stipulate a sea view room. The quality of the decor and the facilities is matched by the friendliness and efficiency of the staff who make every effort to ensure you enjoy your stay. Breakfast, served in the elegant conservatory, is a wonderful start to the day before venturing out or enjoying the pool or 'beach'. Evening 'Galas' on the Belvedere Terrace are also enjoyable. The only downsides I experienced were other peoples' kids and the noise / fumes from the ferries which operate from the Marina Piccolo immediately opposite the 'beach' but these did not detract from the overall experience. Definitely one of the best hotels in Sorrento.
“sorrento”
Lovely hotel, well located for walking into Sorrento shops and and the Curcumvesuviana train station which stops at Pompeii and goes onto Naples. Overall, a beautiful location, very relaxing holiday. We tool our 1year old grandaughter along and had expected some difficulties with milk bottles etc. The hotel allowed us to use the mini bar fridge for all the baby bottles and bits (they emptied it out for us!). the restaurant and bar were wonderful at filling the bottles with boiling water. Be warned!! At the moment, every Friday seems to be a very disruptive strike happening, which blockades the main roads to Naples and the train. If you are travelling back on a Friday suggest you check transport and pick up times in advance. We had to leave at 4am in order to catch the 12MD flight, to get to the airport before the roads were blocked. This marred the end of our holiday somewhat. Hotel didn't warn us despite this being the second week running of strikes.
“Hotel Royal”
Fantastic hotel with brilliant views over Naples Bay and Sorrento harbour. Accommodation, food and staff are all faultless. Will certainly be going back!
