“A lovely stay”

Located about 3k out of Sorrenty up on a hill with stunning views across the Bay of Napoli to Mount Versuvius. Free parking for drivers or an excellent shuttle bus for all. Recption staff multilingual and helpful. Extremely prompt response to requests such as for the use of an iron.ays. Great bar and restaurant with professional staff. A great place to spend a few days

“Fantastic View from the Bar!”

This is very conformable hotel located in the hills above Sorrento. The hotel has a shuttle to take you into the city center and pickup is from the same drop-off location. You can also walk into town if you are fit. Staff is very helpful and service is excellent. A very nice hotel to hang out at after a full day exploring Sorrento and the Amalfi coast. Pool and patio are very nice.

“What a view!”

We stayed at Villa Aminta, an annex behind the main hotel. We chose this hotel because my sister had visited a few months previously and rated it. The room was big, clean and contained everything we needed, safe, DVD player, TV, wifi etc. We were upgraded for free and given a room with a sea view balcony. Although hotel was above Sorrento there was a rural walk which only took us 10-15 minutes to get to centre and also an hourly shuttle bus service. Only disappointment was a lack of fresh fruit at breakfast. This hotel was terrific value for money and I would definately recommend it.

Area recommendations

Sorrento is a beautiful city with lots of places to explore. It also has excellent public transport links. The SITA bus is an excellent way to explore the Amalfi coast and the cost of the ticket (7.20 euros) provides you with 24 hours travel so you can get on and off as oftern as you like. However, this is a very popular mode of transport so if you want a seat on the outward journey get there early. The train link from Sorrento to Naples is also cheap and gives you access to Pompei, Versuveus and Naples.

Dining

Eating and drinking can be expensive in Sorrento but we found a lovely little Bar/Deli called Sweet Dreams which does superb pasta and snacks. The price of wine and beer was also reasonable here. If you are staying at the Aminta and take the rural walk into town you will walk past this Bar. As the path reaches the main road, the bar is on the right hand side about 400 metres along the road. It is next door to a very good supermarket Conad.

“Grand Time at Grand Aminta”

The Grand Aminta was Four Star as advertized. Located a distance from town, the hourly free shuttle service was important, reliable and consistently on time. Driving and parking in town is a challenge anyway. The rooms are modest in size, but modern, clean and well maintained. The included breakfast is outstanding and complete, served in a beautiful room. Free WiFi appreciated and easily accessible. Available tours to Pompeii and Amalfi coast were great! Door to door service, good guides, good values.

“Very good hotel”

This is a very good hotel. The location is not so great, but they have bus services and parking services. Parking in Sorrento is not a problem. The rooms are very clean, well decorated with great bathrooms. The breakfast is excellent and served in a very beautiful restaurant.

“Wonderful staff”

The hotel is out of Sorrento with wonderful views of the bay and Vesuvius. It operates a good free bus service into the town - last bus back at 11.30. Lovely seating areas and would return. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Loved it.

“Beautiful Sorrento”

We stayed in the Annex building and although the room was clean and comfortable there are issues with nearby private residences and dogs barking almost all of the time which was a problem when we wanted to sit out on our veranda and even sleep with the windows open. There was a computer in our room but the internet was out the entire time we were there so had to go to the office to get on line. Food was wonderful, service was perfect, pleasant and helpful staff.

“Great Relaxing Hotel, out of the hussle & bussle of Sorrento but with free courtesy shuttle to town!”

I loved this hotel! My partner & I stayed in the Annexe Building which provides larger rooms than the main building. Our friends had rooms in the main building that were a little smaller than ours & didn’t have a balcony so if possible request a room in the annexe as the rooms are much nicer! There was plenty of room around the pool area. There’s a charge for sun loungers at €4 a day but the deck chairs are free & they recline (bit like baby bouncers/rocking chairs) so you can lean right back so we used these most days & propped up our legs on side tables stacked by the pool. The sun loungers were great as they had a built in visor which could be angled over your head to shade you from the sun and we did use these 1 of the days. We ate in the restaurant 2 nights & the food was really nice, especially the Beef Carpaccio & the strawberry mousse! As many other have stated, the breakfast is very cake heavy with a Chocolate Torte that my chocoholic friend enjoyed every morning! There’s lots of different bread rolls, toast, cereal, fresh fruit & yoghurts to choose from & they also do a cooked breakfast. They also cook the hot breakfast to request if you want a poached egg instead of a fried one etc. We found the staff at the Aminta very friendly & helpful. All in all I think this hotel is one of the best I have stayed in, the views are amazing, the staff are great and Sorrento is a beautiful place to visit…highly recommend the Grand Hotel Aminta!
