“Italy aniversary Oct 2011”

Hotel Ambasciatori was perfect in every way, location, staff, breakfast, room view, short distance to central Sorrrento, Staff advice on resturants was excellent, had our aniversary dinner at Tarros, excellent, Boat ride to capri with tour was excellent.

“Excellent Restaurant and View”

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights at the end of September. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice the lobby area was and the size of the room as well. We really enjoyed the outdoor bar and accompanying tables with a fantastic view of the Bay. We didn't get the chance to get in the pool but it looked pleasant. It was only about a 10 minute walk to the train station. Though, we took cabs with our luggage because we didn't want to haul it through the narrow streets. But, you could easily take your luggage on foot if you don't mind the narrow streets and potential crowds. Lastly, the restaurant in the hotel was superb. We ended up dining there both nights. It was a little pricey but worth every euro. It included the salad bar, a first course (pasta dish), a second course (entree) and a dessert. The menu changed each night so there were lots of options. The breakfast was also wonderful. The best cappuccinos I had the entire visit.

“Perfect!”

My husband and I have just returned from a trip to Sorrento, staying at the Grand Hotel Ambasciatori. We found the hotel to be in a great location, with friendly staff, comfortable rooms and fab food! The walk to the town centre is around 15 minutes; just come out of the hotel and turn right, then follow the road all the way down. The location is just 10 minutes from the train station also, fab for day trips planned. Mostly British guests, some American; and many had stayed before. Breakfast was perfect; so much choice and it set us up for the day until the evening. If we were to visit Sorrento again we would certainly stay here!

Area recommendations

If you're planning a boat trip to Capri then be warned that the boat is quite expensive. Once you get their it is a 400 meter walk all up-hill to the centre! You can get a cab to the top but this was also very expensive for the short car trip. Don't waste money on small bottles of water in the city centre; in the little square by the train station you will find a couple of supermarkets where you will find it much cheaper.

What to pack

Be sure to pack an insect repellant! Nothing to do with hotel, but both my husband and I did seem to get bitten! Don't let this fact put you off as Sorrento is a beautiful place to holiday and anywhere warm is of course prone to knats and other insects.

Dining

If you're looking for somewhere to eat out of an evening, go to the restaurant which is on the way to the town centre called 'Photo'. It is a little pricey but absolutely worth it. Amazing service and delicious food and wine. Ask for the daily special - we did and were not disappointed!

“Exemplary Service!”

Our 1st visit to Sorrento was for a family wedding and so we reviewed hotels on Expedia and liked the look of this hotel and being a 10 minute walk from the town centre was not a problem. I also had a personal reccomendation from the bride and groom to be who had previously visited to plan the wedding. On arrival the hotel was opposite the football ground which was only 10 metres away from the front balcony's so I was glad we had booked a sea view. The hotel lobby and reception rooms were clean and comfortable light and airy with large sofa's and chairs with some antique furniture and pictures. The receptionist was welcoming and friendly and this set the standard for the whole holiday where staff from all service areas was exemplary. The views from the restaurant was stunning across the whole bay of Naples from the port to Capri, Ischia and Naples including Mount Vesuvius and the view from our room was the same. The balcony was small but enough to sit on with a glass of wine watching the magnificent sunsets over the Sorrento penninsular and Capri. The room was clean and comfortable and room service was carried out every morning when we went for breakfast and fresh towels every evening. Food in the restaurant pool side and room service was excellent and efficient and very friendly with Guiseppe leading his team with his friendly charming manner. The hotel upgraded the bride and groom for their stay even though the wedding was not held in the hotel more excellent service!

“Still maintaining high standards”

Our second visit to this hotel in 3 years which speaks for itself as we have never been back to the same place twice... Lovely views over the Bay of Naples. Pleasant staff. Excellent breakfast options with chef available to do your eggs or pancakes. Convenient bar over the road offering drinks much cheaper than most places in Sorrento. Although about 15 minutes from town the walk is pleasant and on the flat. Cannot comment on the veening meals as we did B&B and like to eat in different places. Da Giginos was our favourite and they put whatever you want on their excellent pizzas.

“Very impressed”

Superb hotel, fantastic view, wonderful breakfast and excellent staff, would definitely use again. One afternoon headed back to hotel and was peckish, ordered a pizza and beer from the pool bar and ate it overlooking the sea. Very reasonably priced, no dearer than in the town and tastier. However if you need a taxi to and from the airport don't go through the hotel, we found a site 'airport transfers direct' that are 20 euros cheaper each way. Excellent service. Sorrento was lovely, people friendly.

“Great hotel”

Great hotel, fantastic views, friendly service, great breakfast. Would highly recommend. Only negative, for some, would be a easy 5 minute walk into town. The views on this walk were incredible and we needed to work off pizza and gelato. The staff did a great job in recommending places to eat.

“The best for service and location.”

Beautiful location overlooking the bay and only a short walk to the town centre. The staff were always cheerful and helpful and made one feel so welcome - a real treat. The food was great with a changed menu at dinner each evening. The hotel facilities were calm and relaxing with lovely gardens full of palm trees and flowering shrubs with lemons and oranges in profusion. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and its staff to anyone.

Area recommendations

Ideal location for seeing the Amalfi coast, Capri, Pompeii and Herculaneum and Vesuvius.
