“Looks good on web but not in reality”

1st impression was good, but as the days passed by lots of little thing came to the fore. No matter what time you go down for breakfast there is always slim pickings, this wasn't helped by the 4 Thai girls who took bread, pastries etc, and even topped up their flasks and stuffed it all in the backpacks to save cash on lunch. The mattresses are rock hard, and although we had a nice view from the window (room 6) the private bathroom was an annoyance, especially with late night loo trips. The bar was a disappointment as they had lost the key to the spirits cabinet, this meant you had the option of beer or water. The outside courtyard is awful, untidy garden area and the sun loungers are dirty, mouldy and full of dead leaves absolutely no daily maintenance... very uninviting. The staff are helpful (if you're lucky enough to have one of the girls on duty, the guys...well everything seems a bit of a chore for them). The cleaning staff from Sri Lanka were great, happy to chat and very polite. Basically this B&B tries to punch above it's weight with regards to services and should stick to getting the basics right first. Oh and on reading the guest book on departure one guest reported having €50 stolen so beware as it's a place people could just come and wander round in and no one would be any the wiser!

“Best hotel in Sorrento”

I can't speak highly enough about this hotel. The rooms and shared bathroom were immaculately clean and extremely quiet, the breakfast was excellent, the location of the hotel is in a high rent neighborhood, a the room even had a view of the Gulf of Naples.

“Very nice.”

I stayed here for 6 nights. It was very comfortable. Town centre and Sorrento are all within walking distance. Lovely views of the sea. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

“Recommed but with a few reservations.”

Myself and four friends stayed at this hotels for five nights in mid-October 2010. The hotel was a mixture of old and new (it is a converted monastery and has a lovely atmosphere with high ceilings and interesting features which set it apart from the more modern hotels. We enjoyed our stay at Domus Porto Salvo Hotel and have recommended it to friends who are keen to try it for themselves. However, a few things to note. There is no lift in the hotel, so anyone with limited mobility may find it challenging to stay there. There is a steep flight of stairs up to the first floor where the bedrooms are located. Also, not all rooms have private facilites (our bathroom was just across the hallway and so not a problem for us). However, one big no no for us was the fact that the towels provided by the hotel was very thin, small and not changed during the time we stayed there, even though half way through the week I did request clean towels they were not provided. San Agnelo itself is about a ten minute walk from the hotel. It has a good sized supermarket, bars and shops where you can purchase the all important tickets for the local buses into Sorrento. The town also has a train station which is convenient and easy to use. It has also has a small market on Mondays with some good bargins! The hotel is located in a quiet neighbourhood and has lovely views over the bay of Sorrento. However, there are several bars and cafes within easy walking distance.

Area recommendations
Sorrento town is beautiful. We were there in mid October and the weather, apart from one wet morning, was fine, warm and sunny. There is plenty to see and do in Sorrento which lanes filled with shops selling food, wine, clothing, bookshops, jewellery etc.The shop owners are very friendly and helpful. Transport to and from San Agenlo to Sorrento is good with plenty of local buses/trains. There is a bus stop just outside the hotel from where you can get the local bus to Marina Piccola and Marina Grande from where you can go across to Capril by ferry. Well worthwhile. We had a fabulous day on Capril and would recommend this as a must do to anyone visiting the area. Also, very easy to get to Pompeii by train from San Agnelo. Sorrento also has lots of really good cafes/bars. There is a market in Sorrento on Tuesday mornings which is well worth a visit (but it is at the top of a very steep hill so wear sensible shoes , or take a taxi). There is a really good Italian restaurant called 'Moonlight' located about five minutes walk from the Domus Porto Salvo in San Agnelo. We thoroughly recommend this as a good place to eat, great service, wonderful food and wine and not expensive. There is a lovely church in Sorrento and also Villa Firorentino, which is on the main shopping street, has a programme of exhibitions. We were lucky to catch a Renaissance exhibition featuring works by Leonardo, Donatelo and Tintereto. The staff there were extremely knowledged, helpful and friendly.

“Won't stay anywhere else on the coast”

The hotel was just right for what we needed. Room was small but sufficient. The staff was extremely helpful and the free internet was also great!

Area recommendations
Short circumvesuviana to Pompeii is a MUST see as well as the SITA to the Amalfie coast. Both trips are relatively short but well worth the time and money. We also took the ferry from Sorrento to Capri which was also a must do!
When to go
Early October; weather is perfect-70's, though there were still quite a few tourists.
Getting around
Make full use of public transport. We travelled all over on buses and trains. Driving is dangerous!
Must see
Pompeii, Capri, and the Amalfi coast

“You get what you pay for!!”

If you want 4* luxury this is not the hotel for you. However if you want a basic clean room in a central location with extremely friendly and helpful staff then you will not do any better than Domus Porto Salvo. If you are travelling on a budget then this is the place for you, a plain but filling breakfast, 15 mins walk to local train station which goes to most tourist attractions, and about 25mins walk into Sorrento. This is an old building in need of a facelift but don't be put off as its kept extremely clean (the cleaning lady likes her bleach!)

Area recommendations
Walk into Sorrento very touristy but a lovely little town with lots of little streets and shops. Use the local train service to do your sightseeing (Pompei etc) its cheap and runs a regular servive which is on time. Driving is stressful (the Italians are lunatics) and parking if you can find anywhere is extremely expensive.

“Reasonable but no more”

Recently stayed in this hotel with my wife; was fairly disappointed when we arrived, as it claims to be 3*, but is effectively a hostel. It was clean, and staff were friendly, plus you got a reasonable breakfast. Quite close to the beach, but a fair walk to Sorrento or Sant Agnello town centre. Beware if you love Italian Food too - there were a lot of local restaurants (including the vastly overrated Moonlight) but the quality was merely average UK Italian, and cost a lot more - UK chains like Strada, Prezzo etc. give far better quality for less! Biggest problem though was noise, don't stay here if you are in any way sensitive to it. There is a local bar called the Garden bar right near the hotel, and it's effectively a nightclub which is fairly open and very noisy; the hotel is near a nice view, which appears to be a hangout for the local youths and courting couples too. As a result, it was very noisy outside until at least midnight every night. If you were very tired and the window was shut, it wasn't too bad - in high season when you have the window open, it would have been utterly unbearable - bear that in mind!!

“good value for price but some limitations to be aware of”

the place is good value for the price so some of the basics are not there e.g. tea/ coffee making facility in room. This can be purchased in high season from bar but not otherwise such as when we were there 20 minute walk from Sant Angello train station, 25 minute walk to Sorrento, there are buses 5 minutes away (must buy ticket before getting on to bus which is hard as need to find right Tabac shops before you can use bus) and taxi will cost a lot euros to Sorrento Good continental breakfast, and very helpful lead receptionist, free internet in the common living area. Limited places to eat near by... And there are two entrances to the property. If green gate is closed probably like us on the wrong side of the block and need to walk around to the other side to get in.

Area recommendations
if able to afford then being in sorrento would have advantages including rangand of restaurants, closer to starting points for bus trips and trains, and support services e.g. larger supermarkets

“Wonderful, charming hotel”

Our rooms were larger than expected and immaculate. We made sure we booked rooms with a private bathroom inside the room and the bathroom was spacious. The hotel is right by the Bay of Naples and we could see a glimpse of it from our room, plus views of the surrounding cliffs and mountains. The continental breakfast was simple but sufficient. There was free Wi-Fi available in the lobby. The price for this hotel was perfect. We would definitely stay here again!

Getting there
Take the circumvesuviana train from the Naples Centrale Train Station to the second to last stop, Sant'Agnello. Head left or right out of the train station, either way will take you to the major road to head down. If you go left, you'll go past a grocery store, perfect for stocking up on supplies. The walk to the hotel takes about 10-15 minutes. Take the first right after the church and you'll see the gates going into Porto Salvo. Go up the stairs to reach reception.
Must see
Wander the streets of Sorrento, a 15 minute walk away, and enjoy browsing the many shops. There are also many good restaurants to check out. Go to the Marina Piccola and get a ferry over to Capri, which has some of the most beautiful views of the Bay of Naples from high up on the cliffs. Take the circumvesuviana train to Pompeii or Herculaneum and explore the ancient towns destroyed by Vesuvius.
