On a map it doesn't look that far from Yosemite, but if that's why you are staying there, choose something closer! It took a minimum of 2 hours to get where we needed to be. Other than that the hotel was fine. Its not a Hilton, but had everything we needed. The AC worked great. My only complaint would be, that I wish there were more pillows in the room. Two for each bed is okay buy usually there is an extra one or two in the closets but there wasn't and I sleep better with two. It was late each night when we got back and I didn't want to call and request another one, which I am sure would have been fine but I didn't ever remember until I was laying down to go to sleep. Like I said everything was adequate, I hate those old comforters they look like they've been in those rooms for decades and just feel dirty. I like the hotels that have gone away from the comforters . It had a fridge and microwave and coffee pot. The TV was older but fine. We really didn't have much time to use it. I wish we would have had time to swim but we just never got back from the park very early.
We had a great time, and we were lost trying to find the Motel and I called Mona the desk clerk, she was so sweet and helpful. When we finally there, the room was very nice and cool! We loved the pillows that was on the king size bed, and I forgot to ask where we could buy them. To make a long story short, we went to the Chicken Ranch Casino, with only 100.00 each to play and the first night Darrell won $600.00, and on the way home we stopped at the Casino again, and then I won $600.00. So all and all we had a great time!!!!
Friendly front desk; offered my daughter a beach ball for the pool. Vouchers for pm social and bfast offered. Busy during social, but used voucher for delicious bfast at adjacent restaurant. Big, clean facilities.
We have visited Sonora annually for a number of years, and most often have stayed up the hill from the Gunn House; however, I always wanted to try it. This year, we did.
The room was cozy, the front porch was inviting (with comfy chairs - even rockers), and the breakfast was excellent. Five or six scrumptious bakery items, fluffy baked egg "casseroles," fruit, cereal, etc. No batter-from-a-box waffle machine! Our room did not have a refrigerator, but we were invited to keep perishables in a fridge in the breakfast room. All the staff we interacted with were friendly, attentive, and competent. It was a bit too cold to use the pool, but it is in a lovely garden setting in the back, and I hope to try it during warmer weather.
We will not be staying up the hill again...
This was a nice hotel close to downtown Sonora that was a backup plan for my preferred hotel. I was pleasantly surprised. The rate was a bit high given the quality of the room and facility but acceptable overall.

Named by miners from Sonora Mexico who settled here in 1848, the city of Sonora rests in the Sierra Nevada foothills, in the heart of California’s Gold Country. The city boasts the area’s largest historic downtown district, and hosts a variety of festivals throughout the year.
