Rooms

The Cambridge Beaches Resort offers 94 guestrooms and suites in one- and two-story pink-and-white cottages scattered over a 30-acre peninsula on Bermuda's west side. Some cottages are available only as complete units. One cottage dates from the late 17th century. Others date from the early 1800s when they housed workers for the British Royal Naval Dockyard about three miles north. These still bear the names of their last residents. Some cottages began being used for guests in the 1920s, and the resort grew by buying other cottages over the decades. Now, all buildings on the peninsula are part of the resort.

All rooms, suites, and cottages are air-conditioned and also include ceiling fans as a cooling alternative. Ground-floor patios or second-floor balconies come furnished with lounge chairs and dining sets. CD player/AM-FM radios as well as televisions with U.S. cable channels and pay movies offer entertainment.

“Away from the Madning Crowd”

A gem on the western part of Bermuda. Breakfast was included and a good jump start for the day. Concierge was most helpful making reservations for daily activities, and being close to Dockyard was a plus for various outings. Hotel grounds were one of the largest on the island, and beach was very private. No complaints re our stay!!

Getting there
We used Bee Line transportation from the airport. Hotel is on opposite side of island from airport, and the van was cheaper than getting a cab.
Events and shows
We did boat/kayak or bike ride along Railway Trail. Fun! Also snorkeling was great! Pre hurricane Irene we could not do diving at sunken ships but that was a priority.

“Easy place to get used to!”

We stayed 5 nights and booked 2 rooms. The first room had a defective AC unit and they moved us into one of the suite cottages. They should have known the AC unit was defective and save us some grief. The maid said she did report the problem. But once that was settled we REALLY enjoyed the resort. Everybody wanted to stay another week! It is a bit off the beaten path, but overall a great island and a great resort.

Getting around
Taxis are the best way of getting around, but can be pricey. $20 to get anywhere. Scooters are affordable, $50 for 24hrs, but requires some nerve.
Must see
Consider booking a local taxi for the day. The drivers are all very friendly, and the rate is $50/hr. They will be your tour guide and wait while you visit the caves, the forts, wander around the various towns. Usually see quite a bit in 5-6 hrs.
Dining
The complimentary breakfast buffet/ hot breakfast is great. Everything you would want is pretty much available. The Tamarind? restaurant is great, the chef is very creative, and the menu changes every day. Men remember to bring long pants and a shirt. The Tapas restaurant is pretty good as well. If you go for tapas, consider finishing your meal with a desert at the Tamarind.
Outdoors or beach
The breezes beach is the best. The water temperature was perfect. The other beach by the pool is a shallow bay, and the water feels like it might be 90F

This was our 2nd visit to Cambridge Beaches and we were not disappointed - just truly happy we chose it again. Excellent service, absolutely beautiful setting, comfortable accomodations. How could you go wrong with this? We will definitely be back.

“Cambridge Beaches is impressive!”

Wonderful stay at Cambridge Beaches Resort and Spa. Cottage was very large with a spectacular view of the Atlantic ocean. Even had our own tiny "private" beach a few steps from our patio. Staff was extremely helpful and the main restaurant had very good food. The included breakfast buffet was delicious too. Great place to get away and relax.

“Exactly what I hoped for”

I cannot say enough about what a great time we had. Even though we were there for the 'last week of winter'. Even the weather cooperated with us. I would not hesitate to recommend Cambridge Beaches to anyone. The location and the beaches were the best, not to mention the privacy at our cottage. We rarely left the grounds and had a great vacation!

“Tranquil vacation spot”

Lovely place to relax and feel pampered, if you like a traditional feel. Breakfast was fabulous, teatime was cozy, and manicured grounds were lovely. Indoor pool was beautiful. Staff was helpful and friendly. We were there off season, so can't judge the beach and poolside experience, but they looked fabulous. Also, formal dining room was closed due to low occupancy at the resort, but a limited formal dinner menu was offered in a more casual dining area. Food at dinner was excellent but very expensive for small portions. However staff had good recommendations for other local restaurants, and even called to make our reservations. Bathroom fixtures in our room were not in top condition, which made it seem less luxurious and clean than it could have been. Bed was excellent, comfortable mattress and bedding, and all other furnishings were tasteful and modern (in a traditional style). Best part of the accommodations was the VIEW. I could have happily stayed in the room (or on our patio/balcony) the whole time. We definitely hope to go back, and understand why so many people become "regulars" there, if they can afford it!

Area recommendations
The whole island is lovely, and the buses, ferries and taxis run everywhere on time, so any area would probably be good. Just depends on what you want to do while you're there. Souvenir shopping in Hamilton and Dock Yard, golf at Port Royal or Mid-Ocean, restaurants and sight-seeing all around. Every beach looked beautiful.
When to go
If you want a warm, tropical destination while it's wintry in the U.S., Bermuda may disappoint you. It is warmer than NC in January, but not hot and balmy! However, hotel rates are much lower in winter, so if you're not a sun-worshipper, it's a great time to go!
