“Great location”

Was very pleasantly surprised with this hotel. Convenient to the State Theatre and a few restaurants. Was in town for a show and it was wonderful to just simply cross the street and be in for the night. Rooms were spotless and the bed was very comfortable. Look forward to attending another show and will definitely stay again. My only complaint was that guests of the hotel shouldn't have to pay full price for the valet parking, $25.00 was a little steep to park overnight.

Dining
Catherine Lombardi italian restaurant was delicious and beautiful inside.

“Great luxury hotel in the center of New Brunswick”

Overall, I was very impressed with the room's size and cleanliness, as well as the amenities this hotel offers. There are also plenty of good restaurants, bars and cafes to chose from within a couple of blocks. A very large public parking lot is only a block away in case you don't want to have to wait/pay for the valet service.

“Will definitely go back!”

The only negative to this hotel was the $20 per day Valet parking or optional $15 per day self parking.

“Not too impressed”

I came into the Heldrich with high expectation based on their rates and words of mouth from the visitors overseas (who stayed there) whom I have had pleasure to work with at Rutgers. So when I saw a blob of popcorn on the floor when I walked into the room, I was not impressed. The towels and toiletries were only enough for one person although I specifically booked a room with two beds. The door is heavy, difficult to close, and the chain lock is broken (it's a chain without lock). I could hear doors opening/closing in the other rooms. These tiny details should be taken care of by a hotel with such high reputation asap. When I called the hotel earlier to ask about where to park my car, the guy bluntly said "we do not provide parking sir" and hung up on me. Perhaps they should train their staff better.

Area recommendations
New York City is just a train ride away (40-60 minutes) from New Brunswick, NJ. New Brunswick also has great night out places, lovely restaurants, and an amazing brew pub... all within walking distance from the hotel.

“Enjoyed my stay”

I really enjoyed my stay at the Heldrich Hotel! The staff was friendly, courteous and efficient. The room was very nice and clean and I loved the bed! It was so comfortable...I slept like a baby. I also really liked the artwork throughout the hotel. There were great photographs in the room and the lobby and hallways.

Dining
I really enjoyed the Old Bay Restaurant; their gumbo was great and I loved the pecan crusted catfish. Another good spot was Tumulty's. Their cod with herbed rice and roasted vegetables was delicious.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful review of the Heldrich Hotel & Spa during your April visit. Our entire staff was very pleased to hear how satisfied you were with our beds and the artwork throughout the hotel. The artwork displayed is on loan from the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University and many of the pieces are changed twice a year. Again, thank you so much for sharing your feedback about the Heldrich Hotel and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

“Not impressed.”

Reserved "deluxe king" on expedia, was given 2 full size beds; when I went to tell them, I was told that reserving on expedia would not guarantee a king - which is not the answer the front desk should give - though they did put me in a king bed room. Paint was chipping on the ceiling in the bathroom, which is weird for a relatively new hotel, and there was no light in the shower (which was handicapped accessible in the room we were in). Overall I was unimpressed with the hotel. However, when staying in New Brunswick to see a show, the location can not be beat, as it is across the street from theater row and close to many good restaurants.

Comment from the hotel's management
Thank you for taking the time to write about your April stay at the Heldrich Hotel & Spa. Please accept our apologies for the problem with your reserved room type and the condition of the bathroom ceiling. I have shared your comments with the appropriate staff and we have corrected both issues. Once again, please accept our apologies and we hope that you allow us another opportunity to show you the utmost in service and accommodations that we are capable of providing.

“Room service lacking”

Clean, but not as large as expected. Coffee supplies in double occupancy room were for 1 guest. Room service was a long wait with bad food. Disappointing since it was so pricey. Front desk did not want to hear about room service issues.
