“A good choice--”

I stayed twice--10 days apart. Small clean hotel in busy neighborhood with European feel. Staff was friendly and very helpful--windows shut out noise, I think--I used my earplugs just in case. Breakfast was good and convenient, but overpriced. Cozy restaurant, clean, I will return. Very close to churches, opera, museums. A good choice.

“Great except for the air conditioning”

The Arte is in an excellent location, a short walk from all the main tourist sites in central Sofia. Rooms are modern and very clean, and the service is excellent - the front desk staff are particularly helpful. Only complaint is that the air conditioning in some of the rooms is not strong enough to keep the rooms cool when the outside temperatures top 30 degrees. I stayed with a group - it seems not all rooms had this problem, some were fine. The room rates felt like good value, but breakfast when paid for separately cost more than half of the nightly room charge - very expensive relative to the price of eating generally in Sofia (which is pleasantly low). Pay attention to whether the breakfast is included in your room rate when booking - that way it can be good value. If not, consider having breakfast at a nearby cafe, of which there are plenty up the backstreets behind the hotel. There is free wifi throughout the hotel. There are no safes in the rooms. Overall, recommended. I would return.

“Clean, Convenient, Overall Great Value”

Room was clean and big enough for comfort. Hotel was within 10 minutes walking distance to almost every sight. Two minor complaints: 1) staff did their job well, but often acted as if you were imposing upon them, even though we only spoke to them during check-in and check-out. They did recommend a nice restaurant, however, which was helpful. 2) Shower switched between scalding and cold frequently. Given that these were the only complaints, I would definitely recommend staying here again.

Area recommendations
Sofia is rather small, so anything within the city center will be more than adequate.
Must see
On the weekend, make sure to wander down past the mosque and the synagoge. If you wander a little further down on the weekend, you might catch the large market that they have there. This is the perfect place to pick up some freshly baked Bulgarian breads or line up with the locals for a sausage sandwich. Also, wander around the parks for people watching or a coffee/drink. Most parks have lovely but cheap cafes in the center. At night, these cafes often turn into bars.

“Not Impressed”

The Arte hotel is a nice stab at refurbishing an old hotel and calling it a "boutique" hotel by hanging a lot of mediocre local art on the walls. The elevator was out of service and the electronic lock on the door of my room was inoperable (faceplate off and wires hanging out as though someone was trying to hot-wire a car). There was no inner chain lock so it didn't feel all that secure. Getting a cup of coffee in the morning was a challenge. There is a nice coffee shop a few blocks away but it did not open until 8 AM. I will pick a more upscale hotel for my next visit to Sofia.

“wonderful place”

This hotel is in a very convenient, central location with plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby. The staff were always pleasant and spoke quite a bit of english. The room was quite spacious and clean. We would certainly go back.

“Decent hotel”

The hotel is fine. very close to the centre. Breakfast isn't included in the price, and the restaurant downstairs charges a fortune for it. Better to eat somewhere else.

“Can't wait to go back”

This is a great little boutique hotel. It is very close to downtown Sofia. Staff are friendly. Internet works great. No balconies but windows open. Good cable TV with English stations. Breakfast is too expensive but lots of good resaturants nearby. Very safe neighborhood. I walked at night all the time. I will definitely stay again.

Downtown area has museums, shops, and great restaurants. Just wander in any direction. Very safe neighborhood.

“Cozy, Convenient Hotel in Sofia”

The ARTE Hotel is a small hotel in a very central, convenient location in downtown Sofia. It is within walking distance of many beautiful churches, bustling markets, and shopping. My only wish would be for a separate, no-smoking section in the restaurant since Sofia as a whole is challenging for those with a sensitivity to tobacco smoke. But the nearby market in the Central Hall is non-smoker friendly and has lots of options for casual sampling of local cuisine.
