We have stayed on 3 previous occasions at the royal victoria ,every time has been very good ,the food is excellent ,breakfast has an excellent choice and the bar meals are also very good ,we have two small dogs ,there is a charge for these and mention on booking.Dogs used to be welcome in the bar area but due to recent refurbishment they are now longer allowed in the bar area.but we were allowed in the lounge area with them to have our bar meal and drinks .
The hotel is just right for mountain bikers ,walkers as it has drying rooms available in the event of wet gear .Autum breaks are also good value .
The staff have always been most helpfull and friendly and well mannered.
We had a patio room which was outside the main hotel building. This was very convenient to the car parking (under cover) as well as to the hotel facilities.
The down side was that the walls between the patio rooms were very thin and noises from the adjoining room were easily heard.
The restaurant food was excellent but pricey.

Stayed Friday 7th February for 1 night to meet other members of the Hedingham Sidecar Owners Club prior to the Dragon Motorcycle Rally on Saturday 8th February. Had a great night and a lovely meal. Service brilliant from receptionist on arrival and bar and restaurant staff who were all very friendly and welcoming. Nothing too much trouble.
One of the most important factors to us was a very warm welcome to bikers.

warm welcome. Chocolates on the bed was impressive. Room clean and lovely-nice selection of drinks and delicious biscuits there. Evening meal was 5* quality even though Marco insisted that he was a cook not a chef!
The new owners of this hotel are current in the process of bringing the facilities up to stretch after many years of apparent neglect. And they are doing a wonderful job. Yes, things are still a bit rough around the edges, but our room was spotlessly clean, and the owners and all of their staff were exceptionally friendly and extremely accomodating. Betws-y-Coed is a great town to stay in Snowdonia, and I'd recommend the Gwydyr to any of my friends without hesitation.
Absolutely brilliant! Everything about the place was beautiful: The building (especially at night with the fairy lights), all the rooms, the gardens and of course Hooch the dog! Some very slight lack of attention to detail with the room cleanliness, with the odd light cobweb in the corners and in the bedside lamp. Apart from that everything was spotless.
The breakfast had a fantastic selection, with fresh fruit salad bowls, pastries, cereals, yoghurts and Full English.
We had dinner in another pub on the first evening, which the hotel owner/chef didn't seem to impressed about, which for such a small community town seemed a little bit off.
We ate in the hotel on the second evening and it was fantastic. The king prawn sizzler for starters was delicious, and the zebra steak (don't hate me) had an amazing sauce with it. I did ask for medium, but received it well done, which was quite disappointing as I imagine it would have been to die for had it been cooked to my liking. I didn't complain though as it was still tasty (although a little bit tough). The dessert of specialty ice cream was lovely and the Turkish Delight ice cream was the best I've tasted!
After we had checked out the hotel called to apologize for noisy customers the night before, although we hadn't heard a thing!
I'd highly recommend the Bryn Artro Country House, and if we are going near that area again we will definitely either stay or call for dinner!
