We wanted a place close to the beach (2 blocks) that allowed us to eat in our suite with my daughter and husband. This place had a kitchen and all the materiel necessary for us to cook and talk. Also parking is "free" however you need to park a block away in the public garage ( security guard there). There is a whole foods a block away so getting foodstuffs was easy. The L and metra are 3 blocks away, so getting around is a breeze. The local beach costs 8 dollars a person during life guard hours, but is open outside of that time. The beach was clean and supervised by three life guards. Really nice.
The room was very clean, staff helpful, free and good continental breakfast.
The place is old so expect cracks in the plaster and a some dinginess due to age. Bathroom had a bit of mildew, but was clean.
I will go there again.
This charming Williamsburg-style hotel has offered warm hospitality for 80 years. Sitting on a tree-lined residential street …More
The hotel is very nice. The staff was welcoming, friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the bed was comfy. The bathroom is small but the rooms are spacious. The hotel is in a nice and safe neighborhood. There are many stores and restaurants very close to the hotel. Parking was free and not an issue. Checking in n out was easy and quick. Downtown Chicago is like a 20-30 min car ride depending on traffic. Overall and excellent stay. Will definitely recommend and stay here again when we come back to the Chicago area.
"Decent nights stay with a couple of minor problems"
The room itself was ok. It was stifling hot when we first walked in, so we left the A/C on full blast and went to dinner. No remote for the TV the first night but it showed up for the second night. The bathroom door couldn't be closed without massive force. I know it's the summer and doors swell with the humidity but this is ridiculous. My daughter couldn't close it at all so I had to do it. I can't believe the staff hasn't noticed this already.
This is an economy hotel. Our room was very clean and the bed was comfortable, but the room lacked amenities, even for an economy hotel: no microwave, no fridge and no electric outlet near the desk. Evanston is a very nice suburban town: very walkable with numerous restaurants and near the El and Lake Michigan. The free breakfast was surprisingly good with more choices and better quality than a typical free breakfast.
Stayed here several times for long stretches while dealing with the loss of a parent. The hotel is clean and the staff are very friendly. The room is clean and very quiet. I even had to bring my parents dog in the hotel for one night before driving home with the dog. They were absolutely wonderful about it. This is a great location. Near shops and restaurants and not far from the city. This is not a luxury hotel which, I think some of the reviews seem to be comparing it against. This is a fair price hotel. I had a refrigerator, microwave and cooktop. If I wanted dishes they would provide them. Internet works great and you can purchase an upgrade if you need a faster working Internet. I have never purchased the upgrade and have never had computer problems. Plenty of hot water and comfy bed.
Hotel has easy access from highway. Literally right off exit. Large mall across the overpass. Ruby Tuesday restaurant attached to hotel. Hotel was situated nicely between Highland Park and Lincoln Park. Breakfast was good but it was always packed. Not a lot of spaces to sit and eat. Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable but pillows were terrible. Well I should say that if you like fluffy full pillows you will hate these because they just flatten out. I would definitely stay here again but will bring my own pillows.
Home to one of the most diverse populations in the Chicago area, Skokie hosts a Festival of Cultures every May. A sculpture park in town features 70 different works of art. Just north of the park is a statue to Mahatma Gandhi. The campus of Northwestern University occupies much of Evanston. This tree-lined suburb also claims to be the birthplace of the ice cream sundae.
