Excellent comfortable and clean room with brilliant full Engish breakfasts, Stuart the owner recommended the local Pub for evening meals and arranged a lovely table for us with the staff at the Strickland Arms who made us very welcome.
We would stay again next time we are in that part of the country.
We visited the Punchbowl in May and stopped off on our journey up to the lakes. The pub is lovely, welcoming and homely. The meals were very good, in particular the cooked breakfasts were excellent. The rooms are lovely fitted with all modern amenities and nice finishing touches like a bar of Kendal mint cake, free bottles of water at your bedside and a cookie jar in your room filled with biscuits to eat with your cup of tea or coffee. In all an excellent place to stay and we will definitely be returning. I have no hesitation in recommending this place.
We first stayed here in 1989 and stayed numerous times in the 1990's, in 2001, 2002 and the last time in 2004. It had lost it's edge a little for us in the transition from a privately run and owned hotel to part of a chain (Von Essen). Recent developments, a new owner, and good reviews tempted us back and we were not disappointed! It isn't the same as in the days of Francis and Brian - it never could be - but it is still a unique experience. The position on Ullswater couldn't be better (I'd go for the views alone!), the staff were helpful and friendly, the food was exceptional without following fashion. Sharrow Bay always did things it's own way and that was what made it special. The décor and furnishings suit the house and location superbly and I'm pleased to see the Hotel still dares to be different in that respect. We won't leave it as long before our next visit. It is still Simply the Best!

Sharrow Bay Country House was originally a little fishermen house but since being converted into a hotel is now one of the …More
We went to visit The lake district and I have found this hotel online with a good price tag and good reviews. I have enjoyed the stay for over 3 days. I did enjoy the breakfast the first day but I couldnt see myself eating the english full breakfast everyday. The pool facilities were good and I have used the sauna also. Shame that opening times for this to enjoy are a bit inadequate closing at 20:00 on the weekends.
The room was comfi and the service was good. Parking was also available but not enough spaces were free. Overall good value for the money.
We stayed for three nights. High quality room standards - clean. The Inn is family run with friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent.
The pub food was so good we ate there for the three nights. Nice local ales too
