Excellent comfortable and clean room with brilliant full Engish breakfasts, Stuart the owner recommended the local Pub for evening meals and arranged a lovely table for us with the staff at the Strickland Arms who made us very welcome.
We would stay again next time we are in that part of the country.
We visited the Punchbowl in May and stopped off on our journey up to the lakes. The pub is lovely, welcoming and homely. The meals were very good, in particular the cooked breakfasts were excellent. The rooms are lovely fitted with all modern amenities and nice finishing touches like a bar of Kendal mint cake, free bottles of water at your bedside and a cookie jar in your room filled with biscuits to eat with your cup of tea or coffee. In all an excellent place to stay and we will definitely be returning. I have no hesitation in recommending this place.
We first stayed here in 1989 and stayed numerous times in the 1990's, in 2001, 2002 and the last time in 2004. It had lost it's edge a little for us in the transition from a privately run and owned hotel to part of a chain (Von Essen). Recent developments, a new owner, and good reviews tempted us back and we were not disappointed! It isn't the same as in the days of Francis and Brian - it never could be - but it is still a unique experience. The position on Ullswater couldn't be better (I'd go for the views alone!), the staff were helpful and friendly, the food was exceptional without following fashion. Sharrow Bay always did things it's own way and that was what made it special. The décor and furnishings suit the house and location superbly and I'm pleased to see the Hotel still dares to be different in that respect. We won't leave it as long before our next visit. It is still Simply the Best!

Was really happy with my stay here over the weekend. The room was very cosy and comfortable and had everything you could possibly want - comfy bed, desk, tea/coffee and kettle, nice hot shower, spacious environment, an amazing tasty breakfast, and the option to order bar food and drinks and consume them in your room.
The hotel is very easy to find, the car park is large and safe and I found the staff efficient and pleasant. I would definitely stay here again and have no problems recommending it to anyone wanting a comfortable stay.
