“5th time at the Scarlet.”
Still a great deal for a Singapore boutique property. Smack in the middle of the trendy Ann Siang Hill neighborhood and seconds from the heart of funky Chinatown. The rooms are small but well-appointed with good wifi and quality bedding. This hotel represents a far better value and more distinct experience than most of Singapore's chain hotels. Great late night food all over this neighborhood.
“Nice, with some room to improve”
The Hotel is very nice, very clean, with a little to much Deco trying to make it look fancier. The room was way TOO SMALL, single bed, AC not great, and a little noisy. Still, service is exellent, and people are warm. Breakfast poor for 28 dollars!
“Lovely Hotel, shame the rooms are tiny”
We stayed here for 3 nights on the way back from a trip to the UK & were in room 224 an Executive Room. Overall we were pleased with the Scarlet hotel, however we would not stay here again. There was nothing wrong with the hotel service, every employee we dealt with was incredibly helpful & polite, the location in Chinatown across the road from Maxwell Road Hawker centre and 5 minutes walk to the MTR was very convenient, but you just can’t escape the fact that the rooms are tiny. I was travelling with my boyfriend and we had 2 suitcases plus a carry on between us and we really struggled to manoeuvre around the room at the same time. I had read other reviews stating that the standard rooms were small which is why I upgraded to the executive room hoping it might be a bit bigger, unfortunately this was not the case. The only real negative experience I’d say was breakfast at Breeze rooftop restaurant, really wasn’t worth the S$28 each and was really disappointing. I ordered eggs Benedict which was really just a boiled egg with hollandaise. My boyfriend doesn’t eat eggs so asked for just bacon, when it arrived it was 2 small pieces of bacon on a bread & butter plate… surely not worth $28. They did also have a “buffet” of fresh fruit, cold meats, cereal, pancakes & waffles but by the time we got there (9am when breakfast finishes at 10:30) there was very little left & what was there looked like it had been around since 7am.
“Great location, small room”
There are many positives about the hotel especially its location in Chinatown, with good access both to the bustle of Chinatown and the more select Amoy Hill boutiques, with MRT links very easy. Despite being so near such a busy area, I had no problem with noise and the hotel lobby itself was a peaceful and visually interesting place to relax. I usually don't worry too much when reviews say the rooms are small as I tend to have European rather than US expectations of rooms. In this case, I did find the room a bit on the small side, especially as I did want to take advantage of the free WIFI and get on with some work while I was in Singapore. Working in the room was definitely cramped. I had a room with a window, which was fine and in most ways the room was what I had expected. It was clean and the decor was fine, although like many boutique hotels some of the details were beginning to show signs of wear - but unless rooms are repainted about once a month, you can't be surprised at that. The bathroom was fine, although the shower fitting was not my preferred kind - hard to adjust height. I had no problem with noise from the corridor. The rooftop bar was very pleasant for an evening but the prices are (not unexpectedly) pretty steep. As for food, there are so many places nearby to choose from at all price ranges that anyone can get a good meal. I've never regretted being adventurous in Singapore on that score. All in all, a good option if the location suits.
“It's nice to stay at this hotel”
This hotel is located right at chinatown, and it takes about 10 min walk to the MRT station. You can find all kind of Chinese food in this area. I like this hotel: 1/ when we check in, they upgrade us to a deluxe room without charge. The bathroom is really nice, super clean and very large. The bathroom is very modern. 2/ The queen bed is firm and nice. There is a large mirror besides the bed, and if you are on honeymoon then it's great. 3/ The internet service is free of charge. 4/ Two free bottle of water everyday. 5/ The international adapter is built in the wall, and you do not need to bring your converter if you want to use your laptop or recharge your camera battery. Things that i do not like: 1/ there is no window in your room. 2/ the wall is a bit old. It seems to me that this place is recently renovated to become a hotel. Singapore is an expensive city, so this hotel is reasonable, but i prefer a much lower price since it's located in chinatown.
“Nothiong special”
Just sleep only
“Nice hotel for the price”
The room was very small, just enough space for a single bed but very well appointed, clean and in a good location. The price is right and I would stay again but in a larger room.
“Very Good”
Very comfortable hotel in an up and coming area.
“Miserable experience”
was charged for meals that we did not have. King size bed was actually 2 old lumpy single beds pushed together. Room was tiny and poorly laid out.
“Charming hotel on the edge of Chinatown”
Small, boutique hotel of former shophouses, rooms are small and clean. I would recommend
