“Nice & Clean hotel”
This hotel fits my budget. It's located near Chinatown. 7-11 store is right next to the hotel, so it's very convenience. It's about 10 minutes walk to the MRT. The best thing is the free WiFI. 10 minutes walk to the Chinatown. Room is small but it's very clean and comfortable. Walking distance to all kind of food courts. Overall this is a nice hotel.
“Was okay..”
...but not great. This 'boutique' hotel has nice rooms in special styles. Bathrooms are a bit small. Room service not optimal; forgot water one day, amenities like shampoo the other. Big drawback can be the noise; you hear the neighbors talk and your hear all outside noise too. Outram MRT convenient, many small cheap restos close by. Also bars which don't look very kosher (prostitutes?). But is safe.
“Good location”
Like the decor, location, price and being able to get into the hotel and into the room quickly as it is a nice size, unlike the huge corporate hotels I usually stay in
“Awesome Budget Hotel”
I was looking for a budget hotel, in a great location for a recent stay. I wanted wireless Internet and a mini-fridge as well. This hotel fit the bill exactly. It is NOT a luxury hotel but it is extremely charming. On top of fitting the bill, the staff was very friendly and helpful. I originally booked a room for 1 person, but then, after a medical emergency, needed beds for two people. They worked hard to accommodate my needs in a hotel that was virtually fully booked. It far exceeded my expectations after reading the reviews. Both rooms were quiet. We were on the "other" wing, so we were not above the bar. If my future Singapore visits require a hotel stay, I would definitely return to The Saff. I do caution readers to read all the reviews, understand the rooms you are booking, and adjust your expectations. The single room was quite small, but adequate for the single traveller on a budget. The double was unexpectedly large and spacious in comparison to my expectations. Both had comfortable clean beds.
“Good despite no windows.”
Room had no windows and the air got a bit thick, especially after a shower but with good and quiet aircon it made it a nice, comfortable room (if a little small). If you want to enjoy Singapore and only use your room to sleep the Saff is a good option in a great location close to the subway, chinatown and a good hawker stall.
“Good Find”
After reading some reviews I was a bit dubious, but we were pleasantly surprised by the Saff. We had a small -but lovely- room. Very quiet but I can imagine some of the front rooms could be noisy. Lots of bars close by. Staff were very helpful. Excellent location. Wish we had found the Saff on our first visit.
“What I'd expect of a boutique hotel, but too NOISY!!!”
The hotel itself is decent. Rooms are clean, the neighborhood is okay (as far as Chinatown goes), and there are several eateries nearby as well as a 7-11 next door. There's also a bar/lounge directly below a good portion of the hotel rooms, resulting in some serious noise from the live band until the wee hours of the morning. The Saff is an older building from S'pore's colonial days, and though the hotel has been remodeled, sound still travels through it's thin walls and floors/ceiling. The sound from the band was so loud that it felt like we were in the bar's restroom. And when they weren't playing, we could hear the guest in the neighboring room yapping away on his cell phone. We complained about the noise on the second night, and the guy at the front desk offered us another room, though it didn't have any windows so it would be a downgrade (we were in a Superior Double room, and he didn't have any comparable rooms available). It was our last night, we were already washed up and ready for bed, and we decided it wasn't worth the effort to move rooms at 1am. At least he gave us earplugs.
“Brilliant choice”
I stayed at The Saff earlier this month and was extremely satisfied with the service, location & cleanliness. I love the deco and just the overall ambience. Highly recommended. The room is quite small but the location would beat everything else. Its situated behind Outram Park MRT station which is just a 5 mins away. The area is quite happening at night, with one pub just located next door. Was surprised that it wasnt noisy at night, well maybe thats bcos i was given the 3rd floor. Staffs were helpful and friendly. Free Wifi and best thing, you can access the internet thru a pc provided by the hotel near the lobby. The only downside is that it is a bit pricey for the size of the rooms!
“overall, quite good.”
I liked this hotel. I paid a little extra for a single that has a window. POSITIVE THINGS LIST: *It was freshly renovated and very clean. *The neighborhood is great because it's very close to the heart of Chinatown and a subway station. *Free Wifi in rooms NEGATIVE THINGS LIST: *I thought the decor was a bit too gaudy. I would have preferred something with a more modern aesthetic. *I couldn't figure out how to open the window to outside to get fresh air. *The shower, though very nice, was rather small. *The walls are a little thin. I could hear a bit of stuff from my neighboring rooms and the hallways. Overall, very good for the reasonable price paid.
“Nowhere to put clothes”
No shelving in room -none! When I asked them, they responded that I could hang up my clothes (socks, underwear, jeans?) A dumb response. I didn't expect to be living out of my suitcase for 3 days. They said they would report it to the management but no-one got back to me with any comment or suggestion (3 people at reception were in the conversation at the time). They have no room service and were useless when I asked for a glass, they supply bottled water and 2 coffee cups only. They couldn't call a taxi for me when I left ("the lines are busy", but ringing someone else apparently too hard.) I had a single room but not cheap enough to justify impersonal and amateur service like this.
