“Sloppy and Shangri La do not go together”
I have been staying at the Shang on and off over 20 years. Usually I love it. This trip was disappointing for two reasons - the reception staff claimed that I hadn't paid and I had to show payment not once but twice and even then got a bill at the end for my accommodation. Secondly hotels should be obliged to say when major renovations are happening. Thankfully my room was quite but the pool was not the oasis it normally is because of work on the Garden Wing
“Finished with this hotel”
Arrived around midnight with wife recently, only to be told we had booked through expedia for twin beds, and given late hour I accepted I must have made a mistake. Were told could have a king bed, but only in new wing, at significant premium. Told no other king beds available (what a coincidence). Next morning, when I checked our paperwork, we had in fact requested a king, noting it was not confirmed-but our preference was clear) I rang front office to say I had been misled about our booking. I suspect it was an outright lie. Were told would have a king bed available for us later in day. Nothing happened. When we returned around 11pm from dinner, saw message that room change may (have been) possible. Checked out next morning. I used to like this hotel, but ordinary rooms are now very 80s and dated ( glass bricks!!). May need to be bulldozed to get back to 5 star status. For the price, look elsewhere-I will.
“I promise to them "I'LL BE BACK"”
It's a same as what the others saying. A wonderful hotel with best services.
“Great but needs attetntion to some detail.”
We are a couple from the UK in late 50s/early 60s. This hotel is located in a quiet, green and upmarket area. So, city hubbub is minimised giving an overall restful feel. But note there is extensive renovation in progress (December 2011) and also a huge block being built near the hotel. Noise does not penetrate room but does rather kill any chance of peace around the pool. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the end of Orchard Road where the shops and things like Starbucks start (avoid - use Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf nearby). It's about 20 minutes total to the nearest MRT station. And a good 5 minutes of this can be done in aircon underground precinct. That walk is OK in December (pleasant in fact) but may be different in July/August. Hotel operates shuttle. Taxis are cheap. Can't really fault the hotel but it could do with a little more attention to some detail (replenishment of complimentary items for example). Air con in our room was so cold we turned it off completely and were still cold - in Singapore!! And we come from the UK!!! The budget eating/drinking option is the Line restaurant which we found to be a little to stark and modern. It also wasn''t exactly budget but probably typical (in price terms) of hotels of this level. Fortunately cheaper coffee (and better) can be found nearby (see above). BUT, we enjoyed our stay and would probably stay again. Great beds, good TV facility.
“4 day stay on Horizon Club Level”
I would totally recommend this hotel to all my friends and family. We stayed at the Horizon Club Level and it exceeded my expectations. The breakfast buffet on the 24th floor has a great view of downtown Singapore and the service was great! The Front desk of the lobby were very friendly and helpful. When they were not doing anything they would come out to assist us in carrying our luggage even if its not part of their job. I really admire that trait. Even if the price was a little bit expensive, it was worth every penny and I always remember the great memories I had staying at Shangri La Hotel Singapore.
“Can't wait to go back”
One of the best hotels I have been in. The service, staff and surroendings were excellent. Would recommend to anyone.
“Most enjoyable”
Extremely friendly staff, great selection for breakfast, very comfortable room on Horizon Club floor. Food options in Horizon Club lounge slightly disappointing. Overall a pleasant stay.
“Lupan's Unhappy stay at The Shangri-La”
Maybe I was hoping for too much considering this was the head quarters of the Shangri-La. Forget all wings of the hotel except the Valley Wing, not even the Horizon Level in any of the wings is worth it. They all need repair and renovation. The Valley Wing with it's free breakfast, especially at "The Line," makes it worth the price and the stay. Having said that the room was dirty when we arrived, the waiters at the breakfast room (not "The Line") were curt. Also here's a great tip. Always call the hotel when you need a taxi. They can get you one wherever you are in the city.
“Superb -”
Excellent hotel; cannot fault hotel, service, staff and facilities and food and very high standards. It is the best hotel I have stayed in and if all the Shangri-La's are like that I would book another one.
