“Good location”

The hotel is well situated (across the road from Raffles) and apart from our room in the older wing thus needing some updating all in it was still fine. The staff were efficient and helpful assisting us with early check in, (we arrived at 6am and were able to have our room at 7.30am also a late checkout 1pm) , this was a great help. Overall 8.5/10

Area recommendations
Brisbane in lots of ways is still a large country town, thus it lacks the lustre and entertainment of the Gold Coast or the scenery and lifestyle of the Sunshine coast both of these locations are well within a one hour drive and well worth seeing.

“Very quiet and good location”

This is the quietest hotel room I've ever stayed in, though other guests were on higher floors (I was on the 9th) and apparently there was a lot of construction happening on the top floors and so lots of complaints, but the guests were moved to other rooms. The staff are very courteous and room service very quick. The room was however fairly basic considering the price but everything worked well and the quietness made up for it. The pool area and gym are very good. The big downside for me was that I booked this hotel because of the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi listed in the facilities. The sauna is in the gym and it was broken and didn't work all week, and the steam room and jacuzzi are in the spa and you have to pay extortionate rates each time you want to use them. I did feel a bit cheated by this and think the description needs to indicate if facilities are not included. I would not have booked this hotel had I known and stayed somewhere cheaper as without these facilities I don't think it's good value for money. The other downside is of course no free internet even in the business center which should be standard in this day and age, but there is a really great Internet cafe just around the corner! The location just across from the Raffles Hotel is fabulous.

“Good location, but expensive and showing its age”

The Carlton is very conveniently located - diagonally opposite the Raffles City mall, and thus only a couple of minutes' walk from City Hall MRT. It's only 20 minutes on foot from the hotel down to the central business district - perhaps a sweaty experience in the daytime, but reasonably comfortable at night. There are two wings to the hotel - I stayed in the old wing, and it does feel rather elderly; the carpets in the hallways are grubby, there's a hard-to-describe smell of gloom and body odour, and the shower and bath are, if not exactly geriatric, not brand new. The bed was fairly comfortable but the rooms are also a bit dark; not exactly the most cheerfully decorated of hotels. Most of the staff are very friendly and helpful, although the greeter at the bar looked me up and down as I came into the hotel as if I were some sort of vagrant, rather than a guest who'd paid to stay at the hotel. There's plenty of facilities (a gym and a swimming pool I never had the opportunity to use, because I was at the office all week) but beware of the price of room service - unless you like paying $9 for a fruit juice, you'll find the menu eye-wateringly expensive (but there is a supermarket in Raffles City that you can use to stock up on essentials, rather than pay a fortune in the hotel).

“Location to beat, good service”

The Carlton Hotel is located in the heart of the city, across from the famous Raffles Hotel, and within a short walking distance to The City Halls MRT station, the popular Bugis shopping area, the National Library. It is also right across from the restaurants of shops of Chijmes. The hotel is well-maintained, the rooms are clean and are of a comfortable size. The hotel also has a nice swimming pool & a gym. I give it my recommendation for anyone looking for a central location with good service.

“Excellent Hotel, Awesome Location!”

This hotel was much nicer that what I was expecting, given the price I paid. The hotel staff were extremely professional and courtious. My room was in the new building and was very spacious. They bathroom was much bigger than most and had seperate bathtub and shower. The location is AWESOME! It is in very short walking distances to two metro stations. One of the metro station's is in a very large indoor mall, which is literally across the small city street from the hotel. There were two very minor things that I did notice: there is no hot tub at the pool and both the check-in and check-out process was lengthier than normal.

“wont go back”

The room was very old and bed very small. Very basic. Sheets are clean but too old to call it in white color. Wall was very thin. I constantly heard noises from next door. Air-con was nnoisy as well. Would not go back and wont recommend to friends.

“Carlton was a good choice”

Been to Singapore before, but first time in Carlton - great location, close to convention centres, and the Raffles shops if you want, and close to the subway. Also taxis are cheap in Singapore so it doesn't cost much to get to some of the other districts.

“Not at all impressed with their service. Never will go back there again.”

I had a room with three people staying and it was booked well in advance. However, all they did was to put extra single bed in, but no extra amenities like towel, bathrobe, cup, glass etc. I had to ask several times to get those items. I was promised an almost top floor rooms when I arrived at the hotel. Their check in time was from 1200 hrs but was told to come back even later because there will be no room ready. When I finally arrived back to the hotel, I was given two old rooms with some stains on the carpet on the middle hight level. I have specifically booked two executive rooms but was not sure they were the rooms. Nothing special!

Area recommendations
Around City Hall (MRT station) was good because it was very close to MRT stations and there were many different hotels and atractions around. There were a big shopping complex near by and was very convenient.
Dining
We went to the wet markets in China Town and Little India. We ate at the hawkers centers several times. There were so many varieties of food and drinks and they were very cheap! The food was fresh and tasty. I would recommend pepole to try. It gets very busy around 1230 to 1300 and it may be difficult to find a table some time.
