“Good hotel, difficult to find”

This hotel is located inside the inner city. We took a loft room which required going up a flight of stairs. Room was small but was clean and had a good view. Hotel staff was helpful. Our frustration was we did not receive directions to the hotel and assumed since it was inside of the city, we would automatically get permission to drive in the city. The hotel is very difficult to find without instructions. We used a GPS which took us through the city. We were told by the hotel staff to expect we would get a ticket. We would have expected Expedia to have this warning on their web site.

“Would love to return to Palazzo Ravizza”

Our family loved this hotel - the historical authenticity, the location near everything but on a quiet street with one side overlooking the hills of Tuscany, the cleanliness of the rooms and all common areas, the staff who are most accommodating and the warm croissants! It is just a beautiful place in a very unique city...Siena.

Area recommendations
I would estimate that we walked nearly all of Siena - it was all very nice and seemed to be very safe as well.
When to go
August/early September in Italy was soooo busy! Would like to visit Vatican City in Rome in off-season.
What to pack
Comfortable walking shoes in Italy. Happy feet, happy you!

“Very convenient location”

An old hotel with character, very helpful staff, a little worn in places but made up for it with a perfect location and garden views over the hills of Sienna. Only breakfast but they recommend some very good restaurants.

“Poorly kept for price”

Only saving grace was the breakfast and the veiw from the back of the hotel. Service at the front desk was inconsistent from indifference to truly helpful and concerned later when we had an emergency. The room was clean but poorly maintained and needed renovation. The upstairs hallways were depressing.

“Charming hotel in a beautiful city...”

My husband and I finally took our long-overdue honeymoon this month. We went to Paris, Rome, Siena, and Florence. In Siena, we booked the Palazzo Ravizza, the most traditional of the 5 hotels we stayed at during our entire trip. This place oozes charm (a little detail: no key card, they give you an actual key for your room) and the breathtaking view from our room is worth every euro we spent on a suite. My husband and I typically book modern boutique hotels, but in Siena, the Palazzo Ravizza was the perfect choice. The hotel is within the city walls, a short 5-minute walk to the Duomo (gorgeous) and a 10-minute walk to the Piazza del Campo. Siena is hilly, and the main route from the hotel to the city center, albeit short, is a tiny bit of an uphill climb. I think it will be fine for most people though. The continental breakfast selection is limited but of high quality. You can choose to have breakfast in the spacious, well-appointed dining room or on a gorgeous sunny morning, take it outside to the beautiful garden facing the country hillside. If you choose to stay connected to the outside world, they offer free internet access in the rooms (cable provided). Siena was everything we hoped it would be - relaxing, romantic, beautiful. I was reminded of that every day of our stay at the Palazzo Ravizza.

Shopping
VAT refund for non-EU citizens: Minimum purchase is 155 euros from the same retailer on the same day. The option of an immediate cash refund is available at select locations in the city, make sure to ask the retailer for details
Dining
La Taverna di San Giuseppe, 15-minute walk from the hotel - best food we had in Italy, a tad pricey but worth it. Reservations required as they are pretty well-known among locals and tourists alike. Bistecca Fiorentina and Pici with Wild Boar sauce are musts!

“elegant, excellent staff”

This was our favorite hotel by far. It was just lovely, with terraced gardens, large room with a view, amazing and ever-helpful staff. It is the true Italian experience with old world charm in a perfect location and new age help from the young, knowledgeable and delightful staff members. Among our favorites (they were all good) were Elena, Ariol and Laura.

Area recommendations
All of this walled medieval city yields delights, perfect for walking.
When to go
We went in late March and had perfect weather and not too many tourists this time of year.

“Romantic Retreat”

We will definently return. Very romantic, close proximity to piazza & shops. Parking excellent. We loved the garden area and beuatiful Tuscan sunsets. The entire hotel staff went out of their way to accommodate our needs. Friendly and made us feel at home. Breakfast was superb! A great location for day trips to the countryside. We can't wait to go back!! Sid & Francesca

“"Siena waits for you"”

The Hotel was great once we found it. Make sure to ask which gate of the city you have to enter through, then it is easy. The Girls who ran the Hotel were lovely and very welcoming. I would certainly recommend it to friends. The garden is very special, a great place to unwind.

“Can't wait to go back!”

Loved the Palazzo Ravizza! The view from our room took my breath away! Our room overlooked the beautiful terrace grounds and the stunning Tuscan countryside. The breakfast was the absolute best of our almost 3 week trip in Italy. The public spaces in the hotel were wonderful. Having coffee or wine on the garden terrace overlooking the beautiful Tuscan countryside was so relaxing. The staff was extremely helpful to us also. Our room & bathroom were not large, but were large enough. We were walking distance to the Il Campo & all of the other sights we were in Siena to see. My niece & her husband had stayed here & recommended the hotel to us and I am very glad they did. When I come back to Tuscany I will stay at the Palazzo Ravizza again!

Area recommendations
Somewhere within walking distance to the main city square (Il Campo) & somewhere with a view of the Tuscan countryside.

“Absolutely fabulous”

Great hotel within the city walls with easy access to Siena’s main square. Hotel and room full of character features. Wonderful garden with beautiful views. Spectacular breakfast (we filled up so much we didn’t need lunch). We will definitely come back and bring our friends.

Siena, Italy: Tuscany’s most distinctive and enticing provincial capital, Siena appears to be frozen in time. The glorious medieval core remains a itrecento/i masterpiece, cascading down three hills from the fan-shaped Piazza del Campo. Highlights include the Palazzo Publico (town hall) and the stripy Duomo with its marble floors. The thrilling Palio horserace takes place twice a year in July and August, and has to be seen once in a lifetime.
