“Not impressed.”
Although this hotel has a decent location and the quality of the room is okay, the real negative is the service. The staff seems to be in a bad mood and did not foster an enjoyable stay. The uniqueness of the property could really be enhanced with some good old-fashioned friendliness.
“Charming and Quaint Hotel in Siena”
La Locanda di San Martino is our favorite hotel from all we stayed in Italy. It is small and quaint; felt like a bed and breakfast. The service was excellent. When I return to Seina, I will definitely stay at La Locanda di San Martino.
“I can't wait to go back!”
I cannot recommend this hotel enough! Easy to find, stunningly beautiful, and very helpful and pleasant staff. I was lucky enough to have a room on the top (4th) floor for beautiful views over Siena. I found the room extremely quiet and peaceful, the temperature perfect, and the bed one of the comfiest I've ever been in. The heating towel rail in the bathroom was also a treat. Well equipped room with a mini bar big enough that I could store some of my own food. Breakfast was fabulous! I stayed for 9 nights and can't wait to go back!
“Near a bar”
Do not allow them to put you in the room ground floor below the front desk. Cars drive down this road (within 1 foot of your room, not kidding). So we paid for an upgraded room only to be kept up past midnight by the bar a few doors down and the people gathering outside the bar. Loved Siena, would not stay here again because of the noise.
“A little gem”
The hotel is tucked in a nook on this narrow street. We got into town before check-in, and left our bags at the hotel. There is no elevator, but the front desk man gratefully took our bags to the room for us (on the fourth floor). The view out of the room was AMAZING completely picturesque, the definition of Tuscany!!! Room was clean, bathroom and shower were nice. Bed was a little stiff, but who really cares. Less than a five minute walk to il Campo.
“Freeezing!”
Don't use this hotel for more than one night. The heating goes off and repeated requests for an extra blanket were unheeded so we went on a raid to find things suitable to put on the bed to stay warm. After a long day of art appreciation a comfortable room would have been nice. Contrary to some writers the hotel was quiet although we could hear everything (and I mean eveything) from the bathroom next door, Breakfast is a disaster; very dull and lacking in hot drinks...the water in the taps was hotter than the water provided for tea, and the chololate was so thick it could be turned upside down. Reception staff varied between helpful and downright rude - turn the air con on to warm your room!!! The long flight of stairs to the top floor was a disincentive to return to the room at the end of the day. Siena is great - this hotel isn't!
“Not a bad place to stay and with great location!”
I stayed in La Locanda di San Martino for a night and was quite pleased with the service and accommodation. By Italian standards its not bad considering what I paid for some other hotels while travelling through Italy. The room is a very good size with a reasonably comfortable bed. The mini bar was under stocked and the shower gel, and shampoo is like you get from a cheap one star motel. The service was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very average, and your better off going to the square for an espresso and panini. The biggest plus is the location, great central position everything easily reached walking. I stayed in a double room and would stay there again.
“Large rooms, great bathroom, tired decor in bedrooms”
Excellent location within strolling distance of the Piazza del Campo. Limited reception hours but fortunately for us a helpful staff member was able to assist us check in. Our junior suite had the best bathroom we encountered in the whole of our 5 weeks in Italy : freshly constructed or decorated, large, clean, with completely modern appliances. The adjacent bed/lounge rooms seemed tired in comparison. Comfortable beds. Basic but adequate breakfast provided in small breakfast room. Quiet.
“Excellent time in Siena”
Booked the hotel for a short break in Siena. Hotel was an excellent choice across all the categories. Very clean, great location and helpful staff. Room (suite) was spacious and the bathroom appeared recently renovated. Breakfast could not be faulted - best cappuccino in Siena. Would highly recommend the hotel.
“I will use this hotel again. Lovely.”
Ideally placed for very short walk to centre yet "tucked into the wall". Cosy, homely. Friendly staff. In parts could do with a lick of paint but added to the charm. Air conditioning was marvellous in the extreme heat. Gorgeous dining room (check the ceiling. Buffet breakfast very generous. Only noise (my room was at the back)was from the swifts in flight.I would definitely book this hotel again.
