“great location”
The hotel had been recommended. Very Italian, lots of Marble, Room large with great aircon which not all Italian hotels had had on our trip. Car parking great again, and a short walk into the centre of Siena. Recommended good places to eat. Would stay again if going back.
“Sienas Hidden Gem”
Excellent Service,Friendly Staff , Will Do Anything To Help & Advise. Only Let Down Was British Airways What Has Happened To Them ,They Make Easy Jet And Ryan Air Look Like Emirate Airways
“Great location”
maybe 4* is a bit generous but great access to the centre and great parking. Both essential for Sienna.
“Good Location to Explore Siena”
The hotel is well situated, within the city walls and a short 10 minute walk up the hill to the Duomo and the Il Campo main square. The hotel staff were very helpful and although we arrived at noon they had the room ready by 12:45. They even gave us a free expresso. The rooms are decorated in modern style and are comfortable. The conditon of the bathroom floor was poor, in that the mosaic tiles had broken away in some areas which left sharp edges. There was no shower curtain, which led to flooded floor. The biggest problem with this room was the poor noise insulation, especialy in the bathroom, where you could here clear conversations from other rooms. Our room was on the 5th floor, which happened to be street level. We were woken up at 2:30am by two Chelsea supporters singing at full pelt football songs in an adjacent room for an hour. Without this our stay would have been more pleasant. Breakfast was good and plentiful and it was a good base to explore Siena.
“Pretty average”
Hotel was an easy walk from Piazza del Campo, but was undergoing a lot of noisy building work throughout the day and into the evening while we were there. Room was pretty small, was clean, but smelt a bit!! We were not informed about the changes to breakfast serving times on New year's day and had to miss it as a result ... boo!
“good location”
good central location with garage parking
“What has happened to this hotel?”
Having read previous reviews we were looking forward to our stay at the Athena. We arrived in Siena in the early afternoon at the start of a thunderstorm and torrential rain. As we had not eaten lunch we went to the rooftop bar to order a drink and snack to be told the barman would not be back until 5 pm. Tried to order room-service (available 8.00 - 21.00, according to hotel brochure) - no, room service not avaible either. Could we have a cup of coffee? - no to that as well! Not a great welcome! Eventually walked into the town for something to eat dodging rain showers. Had a problem with reception on TV and mentioned this at reception, but was told that the English TV stations were only available to listen to, not watch! Oh dear! said we thought it very poor for 4 star hotel, no refreshments on arrival etc. Receptionist response was that we should write in and complain! Won't be coming back to this hotel again. Share previous comments re adequate breakfast. Rooms had been cleaned, but stains on carpet, shower feeble - we weren't impressed!
“Showing its age”
Staff all very helpful but they managed to miss us off the cleaning rota on the first day and one round of drinks that were ordered never arrived because the staff changed shifts. Rooms looking a little elderly with missing bathroom tiles and mouldy seals round the shower.

Area:
Siena, Italy: Tuscanys most distinctive and enticing provincial capital, Siena appears to be frozen in time. The glorious medieval core remains a itrecento/i masterpiece, cascading down three hills from the fan-shaped Piazza del Campo. Highlights include the Palazzo Publico (town hall) and the stripy Duomo with its marble floors. The thrilling Palio horserace takes place twice a year in July and August, and has to be seen once in a lifetime.
