Extended Stay

Posted 07-Jul-2015
I think that the best compliment that one can pay an establishment such as the AWPRS is to extend one's stay. After two nights booked at this resort, I extended my stay another 4 days. The service was amazing. The staff was hospitable and welcoming, which was a complete 180 from what I had just experienced in Ho Chi Minh City. In fact, I plan to write to the manager at the hotel in HCMC to gently suggest that he hop on an hour flight to Siem Reap and treat himself to a stay at AWPRS and observe what it means to be in the hospitality business. The spa service here is incredible- the BEST massages that I have ever had in my life. In fact, I booked nightly sessions with the same masseuse. She was incredible. She even came on the evening of her day off because I had requested a session with her. I appreciate this very much, as I know that days off are so precious. As for the food, it's delicious. I ate several times at the Royal Khmer House, as well as at Soriya. Each meal was lovely. I would definitely recommend a meal or two at the Khmer House. The staff is lovely. The food is delicious. I had a chance to ask for some elementary language lessons, and they were happy to teach me important phrases to help me along in Cambodia. A meaningful cultural exchange is always welcomed. :-) ... hit and miss with tuk tuk drivers. I would suggest an upgrade on and careful attention to the bed linens to round out the 5 star experience and to compliment the pillow menu.

Really good resort, spacious, homely, smells nice

Posted 07-Jul-2015
The resort is located off the main road, but every tuk driver knows where it is. The are also tuks on stand by all day long to take you anywhere. The resort is huge and every part of it is spacious. The lobby is huge with lots of comfy sofas and cushions and off course ceiling fans that provide gentle breeze. The resorts has a big pool with pool bar. Unfortunately there wasn't enough reclining chairs. And the bartender lined up all the liquor bottles on a bar bench, which gets really hot during the day.. i wouldn't order cocktail using those. Stick with beers instead. Which reminded me that the beer from this pool bar is twice expensive compared to beers sold in Pub Street where you could get beer draft for $0.50. Breakfast is pretty good. Menu is mixed between typical western and Asian breakfast. They have chairs outside the restaurant over looking swimming pool and a fish pond. Our room is also spacious with nice hot water and strong water pressure. I used the bathtub one evening to soak and relax my sore muscles after 3 hours of court bike riding across the country side. I didn't check out the food in the restaurants, they have 3 restaurants, as it was always tempting to go to the night market and pub street in the evening. Always there are good food around and cheap drinks. What else can you ask more?

Fabulous hotel 3km from town centre

Posted 04-Jul-2015
Pros: Location, comfort, wonderful staff with real character, ambience
Cons: Struggling, but maybe access to an iron and laundry
Location: Many interesting temples, Coulen mountain waterfalls, markets day and night, landmine museum
From the pick up by the free shuttle to drop off 5 days later the hotel experience was fantastic. Staff were friendly but only chatted if invited, and the hotel grounds and buildings everything we had hoped. The check in process was the nicest I have had, and everything was easy. Loved the pool, and while we took the ever-present tuk tuks into town we did walk once in about 40 mins - got a bit hot but quite doable if you are active! Loved Siem Riep and Cambodia, will be very happy to go back and see the great people and places, and of course stay at the locally owned Angkor Palace. Oh, and if you like good latte head to Sister Srey near the old market.

Wonderful resort hotel

Posted 15-Jun-2015
Pros: Everything.
Cons: There are parts of the resort that are starting to look aged, but I'm sure those will be upgraded/repaired soon. All in all, this is a great resort.
Location: It is far enough from the main part of town to be quiet, but an easy $3 USD tuk-tuk ride to Pub Street and the markets.
This is the third time I have stayed at this resort. The hotel staff could not be more helpful. They attended to our every need, and upgraded our room without us even asking. There was a miscommunication and they did not have the shuttle at the airport to pick us up, but the upgraded room more than made up for that. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the bathroom is huge. The landscaping and decor is gorgeous. The pool area is wonderful, with a swim up bar and a "lazy river." Fresh fruit is provided in your room every day, and the buffet breakfast was wonderful.

Once in a lifetime visit

Posted 12-Jun-2015
Pros: Clean large modern rooms that was very cold and a very quiet. Hotel staff and manager fixed tour issues we had. Nice!
Cons: We had a bad and lazy tour guide.
Location: Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. Elephant ride was expensive, but during the hot day, it was worth it.
Hotel was great. We rented 2 rooms for my family. Clean friendly staff, and really great food. The neighborhood was a bit of a concern on our arrival, but when we got to the hotel, the scenery was very different from the main street and the surrounding neighborhood. Make sure the booking for the tours are done 1 day in advance. Also, make sure you carry water as you head out on the tour. My wife was creeped out with all the geckos on the hallway walls and ceilings. There is no need to convert to local currency. They accept USD every where!
