“Flying visit to Shrewsbury”

Lovely old fashioned hotel in a perfect location, in the centre of town but with minimal traffic and noise Hotel a bit of a maze, being made up of several medieval buildings, but very much in keeping with the surroundings. Service was helpful and efficient.

“Very friendly hotel”

Very friendly and helpful staff and comfortable rooms. Front facing rooms might benefit from double glazing as noise from the town can be heard at weekends.

“Not what I expected”

Booked the Rupert a day before travel and chose it as others were booked up and the pictures seemed quite nice. I thought that the Expedia discount for a double room in the centre of town was a good deal despite brekfast not being provided. Well... The room was a little dated to say the least. The bedding and decor were not tatty, but faded and in need of some updating. The bathroom was cramped and reminded me of staying at my grandparent's house as a child. The shower was so poor that my girlfriend removed the head in order to wash her hair. The room was spacious enough, the dressing table had been slightly pulled away from the wall exposing the power cables that were hardwired into the desk and one of the draw of one of the bedside tables wouldn't close properly. The wall mounted LCD TV was great although looked a little out of place. The view was of a tar and gravel flat roof scattered with cigarette ends and a soiled pair of white boxer shorts. Other than heavy dust on the skirting boards and behind the radiator the room was very clean. I should have checked out and found another hotel, but thought it best to be British about it (put up with it and then have a good moan).
