“Beautiful old hotel, in lovely location - would definitely recommend staying there.”
This hotel is lovely! It's a beautiful yet old and very grand building, with wood panelled walls inside and tastefully decorated throughout. The gardens outside are really lovely, with direct access into Sheringham national park. The food is excellent, albeit expensive (and the portions are small), but it's very delicious and well cooked food, so for a special occasion, dining in this hotel is well worth it. The staff were all very polite and courteous. My husband and I really enjoyed our stay there, and would happily recommend it to others.
“Could do better ..”
A mixed experience. The food was very good and served imaginatively .The staff were friendly and courteous . However the room was outside across a courtyard, dark and with poor lighting. A bulb was also out in the bathroom. Plus magazines that were nearly a year out of date. So, could do better on the housekeeping !
“Stunning getaway...”
We booked Dales Country House to getaway from London life for two days...we discovered such an immensely grand Grade II mansion house that oozes elegance and class. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, the location is outstanding and the grounds of the house are extensive. We highly recommend the food, the chef is phenomenal-the breakfast was incredible! Also, little touches made the experience so indulgent-for example, when you order coffee you get a platter of fresh fudge to compliment the roasted flavour, unnecessary but clearly one of many ways they are 4stars...the room was beautifully sized and had original features that were so breathtaking...We highly highly highly recommend this stunning Country House! Its only a 15 min walk from Sherringham seaside, and we actually found the views at the countryhouse more mesmerising than the seaside we went to discover!!! Thanks to such a wonderful staff...
“Americans beware!”
The charm of The Dales doesn't compensate for their poor service and value. The staff is nice enough but not friendly. If asked a question, they answer, but no information is offered, like local attractions, where the ice machine is, times for breakfast, etc. We had to ask all those questions and since we were staying for 5 nights, we felt that should have been offered to us. As savy travellers, we're used to staff truly interested in assisting their guests...these folks weren't. The portions at the restaurant were minimal average quality, took way too long and cost too much money for what you get. I could whip it up in my own kitchen and I'm no Julia Child. We NEVER had our room vacuumed, there was no top sheet under the duvet, although I repeatedly wrote notes asking for decaf coffee I never received it and had to either call for it or go down to get it...and the list goes on. Upon checking out I voiced my concern with a 10 item note to the manager who eventually comped our dinner (which took 2 1/4 hours!!) as well as the newspapers delivered to the room which we were never told had a fee as well as the breakfast delivery we had twice...never told about that fee either. The price was far more than it was worth. The room, billed as delux, was small, the bathroom very small with no window...the only thing that made it delux was a balcony (the only one in the hotel) which was nice...when it wasn't raining. We were very disappointed with this selection.
