Superb experience. What a difference 20 years has brought to Shenzhen. Hong Kong with lots of space and better prices. The hotel is in the new water front transformation so walking distance from the different restaurants, bars, marina and the Ferry terminal to Hong Kong. The lobby is out of this world with the most beautiful looking piano set on a water stage. The attention to detail is one of the best I've seen. Had a beautiful room with sea and marina view.

From Shenzhen Airport to Hotel, take either BUS or CAB.
By BUS - navigate from within airport building to Car Park 3 (if I remember correctly). You will see a signboard that states all the buses and stops to whichever location. If you read Chinese, look out for 'Shekoumatou' with a metro sign. Buses are from 2 Yuan and above- only exact change (coins) are accepted and bus tickets are paid on board the bus.
By CAB - beware of those who will hustle. Take the RED cabs and run by the meter (in Chinese, it's called 'dabiao').
If you are staying for just a night or two, and intend to head off to HK/Macau by ferry next, this is quite ideal because of the location. It's a no frills hotel, so expect no pool or hearty breakfast or exceptional service, laundry, etc. If you want just a comfortable stay with quite a good view to buildings and mountain beyond, it is actually livable.
Amenities/ attractions nearby:
Bakery - out of the hotel, turn right and right again, and walk all the way down - parallel to a playing field/ ground. Nice bread, interior and garden.
Sea World - probably one of the highlights near the area where I would recommend to go. It's not crowded when I was there, and not fully opened - restaurants and all, as the area will be developed for some light and art festival 2015. But still worth a visit- there's 7-11, a cruiseliner, some nice urban furniture, eateries. There's also a Sea World Metro, 2nd from Shekou Matou Metro (end station at Ferry Terminal).

Overall the property is great, the room could have been cleaner and the cleaning staff did nothing more than wipe out the sinks change the towels and dry mop the floor. I make my own bed every morning out of habit but the linens were never changed during my entire 18 day stay. (not a big deal) The kitchen was sparsely equipped with no silverware? and nothing matched (also not a big deal) the bed was no more than a very HARD foundation with a 3" or 8cm foam cushion on top did I mention VERY HARD? It was nice to have a washing machine in the room but no dryer? (hung clothes to dry) I opted for the Sea View which was OK I was on the 19th floor and the view from the balcony was nice. It is walking distance to almost anything that you could want. The staff has very limited english but we were able to get the point across with gestures. They were very helpful when needed. The WiFi was acceptable but spotty and we lost all electricity in the building for a day (so I went out to the BAR) Overall It was a nice place 3.5 stars Not a 5 Star residence. I could sleep in a tent in the desert (I have) so it wasn't too bad at all.
I travel every 6 months to Shenzhen for business and chose Shekou since there is a lot of international restaurants around. This hotel is located in the Sea World plaza which is great place full of international restaurant and stores.
The hotel staff is very kind. The hotel rooms are ok for the price.
I wasn't sure what to expect in an old, re-purposed cruise ship converted into a hotel sitting right in the middle of a trendy new restaurant area, but that's exactly what it is. I took the subway from the Shekou Port station one stop to the Sea World station (recommended - it's only 2 RMB and saves a 10-15 minute walk). When I came up out of the subway station, the ship was right in front of me. Couldn't have been easier to get to from the subway which is a great way to get around Shenzhen. The Sea World complex is a wonder in itself. The hotel / ship along with the fountain that surrounds it, is the centerpiece of the complex. In several very modern buildings which surround it are a multitude of various restaurants and bars. You could spend a month sampling all the restaurants.
My favorite part of the hotel was the cigar bar which is at the top of a very ornate set of stairs off the main lobby. The room is very cozy with big comfy leather furniture, coffee tables and lots of nautical themed decorations. I was the only person in the bar so I ordered a beer, found a comfortable big leather chair and spent some nice wind-down time reading a book. It provided a great way to end the day.
One thing to consider when staying here is that it is a bit of a subway ride into downtown Shenzhen. It takes about 45 minutes with one transfer. However, the subway system is very easy to navigate and has announcements in English, which was helpful. I would definitely stay again.
Very convenient and efficient place provide anything you may think of, kitchen, wifi, power outlets for world travellers. The room is huge and much spacious than Hong Kong hotels just across the border. When I left my suitcase in cab, the staffs there quickly helped check CCTV and provided enough information to find it back.
Directly linked to Hong Kong via ferry, Shekou has long welcomed foreign workers and visitors, and created a pleasant, leafy enclave for residents. A highlight of Shekou life is Sea World, originally based on what was once the private yacht of former French president Charles De Gaulle. Now twinned with a plaza, Sea World has evolved into a fashionable entertainment/dining area.
