“Relatively Good Deal”

It's all relative, I guess. While the front desk folks were not particularly welcoming or friendly (and I speak Chinese), at least they gave me various bits of good information, charged me exactly what I expected to be charged, were able to change a small amount of money for me, and made no errors whatsoever. I felt they were competent. I stayed at another hotel on the same trip in China, and it was a billing nightmare. The quality of the Ruitai rooms seems uneven--the first room I was in was so dark I felt as though I were in a slum; the second room was much brighter and better. Improved lighting would make it a much more pleasant experience. Given the price and location, I would stay at the Ruitai again.

Area recommendations
The Shanghai Museum is incomparable. And for some reason, absolutely no wait to get in this time (two years ago I stood in line 2 hours). The China Pavilion at the World Expo site is perhaps worth seeing, although it may entail a 3-hour wait, including for the elevators, once you get through the (well-organized) "cattle pens". If you like books, don't miss Fujian Road's concentration of bookstores, including Book City and the Foreign Languages Bkstore.

“location great as advertised, but condition poor”

yes, location is great but --- bad a/c; hall way smells like sewage; internet speed not great; window faces a wall (perhaps just 6 inches apart), so practically non-existent

“Convenient and good location in Shanghai”

This hotel is in a quiet location just of the busy Nanjing Road and with subway line 2 just outside ideally placed to visit all places of interest in the city, Wide range of eating places nearby. Room and bathroom fine and well equipped - bed firm but comfortable. Reception staff helpful with adequate English. Good value overall. Only proviso is that rooms are air conditioned but not warmed so avoid in cold weather.

Area recommendations
All places of interest in guide books are worth a visit so plan at least 3 days. Try to take a coach or taxi tour that uses the extensive flyovers to get best views of the skyscrapers and ordinary housing areas. A trip on the MAGLEV at over 250 mph from Pudong airport is an experience and not expensive. Taxis very cheap.

“Worst hotel in china”

A dissapointing hotel. Hard nasty grey towels. Soap never replaced in bathroom. Bed so hard, like sleeping on a board. Terrible breakfast, even the fruit was inedible and very little choice.

Traveller's tip
Very handy to the subway and restaurants

“Very good hotel”

It was an excellent central location in the heart of the city. The Bund was nearby. The room was large and spacious. The bed was very very hard and too firm for my liking....it was like sleeping on the floor. The buffet breakfast was ok - nothing special but it did the trick. I wasnt expecting a 5 star breakfast because it was a 3 star hotel.

Traveller's tip
Very Good hotel at a reasonable price.

A conseiller vivement.

Area recommendations
When to go
