“A nice budget hotel”
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this 'budget' hotel. Their definition of budget has a much higher standard than a budget hotel in the U.S. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Their English is a bit rough, so I recommend using an online translator to print the Shanghai dialect translations of common phrases and the places you need to go before you get there. My only complaint is that the wireless network was poor. I was able to use AIM and access my gmail through Outlook. However, surfing the web or accessing my sites for school was impossible. The hotel is about 5 blocks from the nearest metro station. An easy walk. The only problem with the neighborhood is that you have to walk passed merchants who are VERY pushy. Be prepared to have strangers grabbing you and trying to pull you into their stores to buy items. Other than that, a great first visit to Shanghai. I would definitely recommend this hotel. With its easy access to the metro and a block and half walk to the Bund, it's a good location.
“Affordable and convenient...”
Excellent location with access to many fun places in walking distance; On subway line 2 and can go both airports or high speed train easily. The room is clean and well organized although kind of small. Staff were very helpful.
“The good and the bad of it”
It's cheap. You get what you pay for. The immediate vicinity is really run down, but 3 blocks away is Nanjing Road. We spent nearly 3 days just checking out the stuff in that area. Very different from what I am used to in the USA. The room is really small and the bed is really hard.
“Good hotel near the bund”
The Manatthan Business Hotel is near the bund. Our room was good and comfortable. The hotel have many different service like laundry, internet wifi, coffee bar, etc. The location is really nice: the hotel is near the bund and near Nanjing road. Nearby the is many coffee bar, restaurant, market, etc. The staff didn't speak a good english but it was enough. I suggest you this hotel.
“Location, location, location”
If you are looking for a place to sleep with excellent location in Shanghai, this is the place. if you need all of the extras and are very particular about your accommodations, you may want to think of another place however. The hotel is no more than 100m from the Bund, which gives you easy access t many of the shops and restaurants there, and is less than 5 minute walk to Nanjing pedestrian street and Nanjing East subway station, which links you to all of the major locations. Near the hotel and on the pedestrian street there are plenty of people selling watches, bags, and other knock-offs and the Xipu market is about 10 minutes walk away, if you really want to be bombarded. McDonalds and other western fast food places are abundant on Nanjing Pedestrian Road. You can get a pre-paid mobile SIM card from China Mobile which is adjacent to the hotel. This was a key item as it allowed me to use the Google Maps app on my mobile which was extremely helpful. A few cautions: The internet in the room was extremely, though I hear this is all over Shanghai. There was no fridge in my Standard room, though I requested one as I was staying for 2 weeks and it was granted. The basic rooms have no windows, though the standard room I had was 3rd floor, so it was in view of the neighbors, I used the windows only to check the weather. Overall: Not a honeymoon hotel, but if you can accept an older hotel with a good bed and great location, this is a great find.
“Bed bugs”
Bed bugs, change room-good service, didn't change bed bugs.
“Real nice”
Had a great stay at thid very pleasant hotel in excellent location. Admittedly, I did not get a window room as I requested, and the breakfast I ordered never arrived, but these were minor details and all due to miscommunication rather than lack of service. Really enjoyed my stay, and the room was lovely!
“Better than hoped for”
Great location, good facilities including wifi in the room, helpful and friendly staff with some english speakers could not have asked for more for the price I paid. Excellent value for money. The bund strip is a couple of minute walk and metro 5-10 minutes walk. Highly recommend this hotel, will be happy to revisit
“Moldy hotel in extremely good location.”
The location of the is really ideal for a budget traveler. Situated in downtown Shanghai, it's literally a block away from a breathtaking site of The Bund. And it's extremely convinient to access from public transportation. Just three blocks away from East Nanjing Road Station where #2 and #7 lines cross. With some research I've done with google map on my iphone, I was able to get to the hotel after getting off of the East Nanjing Road Station. Staffs were sufficiently proficient in English. However, once I get in the room, I had trouble breathing. It's not that I have asthma or anything but the room was literally moldy. Yes, I saw mold in the bathroom. I know the rate was amazing for a hotel in downtown but I was getting headache by just breathing in the room. When I read other fellow travelers' complaint on the hotel in Expedia about the moldy, I thought they were exaggerated. It turns out, I'd better listened to them. I don't know how this was rated relatively high among travelers. Well, unless you simply need a place to park your luggage and go around to party at night, I wouldn't recommend this hotel.
“The Manhattan Bund Hotel Shanghai”
An old building with character, but they turn off the air conditioning at night, hoping to save money. You will sweat like a dog in the wee hours of the morning, as they leave on the ventilation, but that just pumps warm moist air into your room. They think they are saving money, but they waste it, as it takes all day to cool your room down. Also, most rooms have no windows.
