“Simon from San Diego”
Checked in and I knew there was trouble Youg kid Bell man sitting down chatting did not even notice I walked in. Front desk could not find my reservation at first and they were rude about it. Bathroom had no mirror for shaving, rediculous! Called 3 times to housekeeping for shampoo. Lady came up and asked what I wanted! I'll never go back ever! Horrible service. Stay away!
“No the same hotel from my last visit - gone down!!”
I have stayed at this hotel before and enjoyed!! The things that made it enjoyable for me previously are now gone - Rooftop Bar, Swimming Pool and the nice lobby Bar/Cafe!! Front Desk NOT friendly................. Bellman and room service people very nice!!!!
“Great Price .... Not So Great Place”
I booked this hotel for a 2-day stop over in Shanghai on my way back to US after 3 weeks in China. I booked mainly on price and I believed I had stayed in the hotel several years ago, but after arriving, I knew it was not the same hotel. The hotel is rated at 4 stars, but I 've stayed in MANY 3-Star Chinese hotels that far exceed the quality of this one. First the place was "dirty".. carpets in my room had so much dirt and stains that I was almost afraid to remove my shoes.. even to use slippers (provided). Nothing in the bathroom worked, sink and tub drain was clogged, toilet pull mechanism was broken.. shower faucet was erratic. Oh well.. I heard, you get what you pay for.. NEVER AGAIN..
“OK for Budget Hotel”
Only because of the cheap rate we got from Expedia was this hotel acceptable. There was no one available to take bags to room. Breakfast was very ordinary. Sufficient English spoken by most staff. Overall staff were friendly and obliging
“Just so so”
We booked room with the bund views but were disappointed with almost no views. The room is clean but next door's noise can hear clearly at night. Swimming pool and bar are all shut. Not close to metro, need catch taxi, most of the taxi driver knows this hotel. When I booked there was a discount so it is value for money if you don't mind the problem above.
“Great location, but problematic”
Our family of four stayed in two "Deluxe River View" rooms for two nights in July 2011. Positives: +Great location, quick walk to the Bund and gorgeous views of Pudong skylines +Rate was very reasonable +Deluxe River View room was nice, clean, generally well-maintained +Views from both rooms were spectacular (23rd floor) +Check-in was smooth, staff was helpful and spoke some English Negatives: -Pool appears to be more or less permanently closed -Top floor restaurant with view also appears permanently closed -Carpets in rooms badly stained and worn -A/C struggled to keep up with July heat, and would shut off when you left the room (key card needed to activate it), leading to a very hot room upon returning from the day's activities -Late night visit to the front desk led to being propositioned by a prostitute. They lounge around near the elevators, with implicit OK from hotel staff. We did not eat in the hotel, so can't comment on that. There is a Starbucks across the street, and a McDonalds about 4 blocks away.

OK
“Not impressed”
Free internet and breakfast are not included; Room is too small; Carpet is dirty.
“Nice Hotel, Comfortable Room, Great View”
I was very satisfied with my stay. I was on the 23rd floor and had amazing views. The room was nice and the bed was comfortable. It was very quiet too. The fitness room is a bid under-equipped, but it's still enough to get a good workout. For the price I paid, it would be hard to beat.
“Hotel on the Decline”
This hotel and gone downhill significantly in the past three years. I have stayed there several times and in the past it's been a relatively pleasant experience at a competitive price. Recently however it's clear that the maintenance of the rooms and common areas has been significantly neglected - in particular there are dirty carpets everywhere and lingering smoke smells even in the non-smoking rooms. The bathrooms are generally clean but not what they were - the beds remain comfortable and linens are clean and changed regularly. Internet is adequate but somewhat overpriced - it should be free. Much new construction in the general area makes in noisy on the lower levels. The breakfast is unimpressive - watered down orange juice for example - just not worth the money they charge and not good enough to prepare for a busy day. As or the location, it's easier to walk around since they have finished the reconstruction for the 2010 World Expo. It's reasonable deal but don't expect too much - for a little extra you can find several excellent hotels in the downtown core. If you like your creature comforts then pay the additional cost. Beware the taxi drivers - make sure you can tell them EXACTLY where you want to go.
