“Fab Hotel”
This hotel was lovely and exactly as described, i took my partner for his 30th to visit his brother and was made up with everything about the hotel and its location. Highly recommended and would go back.
“Good localisation but not renovated room”
We stayed in Astor hotel for 7 days. Hotel is based in the city center, the front desk speaks english. The room was clean but quite old, internet is quite expensive 20 dollars a day.
“A grand old dame”
The Astor House Hotel is a grand old dame from another era. The hotel has a remarkable history so be sure to look it up. I stayed in a Richard Executive room and was very pleased. The room was enormous! I could have had a cocktail party in there and still had room for the string quartet! The bed was comfortable and the reonvated bathrooms are clean with a seperate shower and bath. I had no problems with water temperature or pressure. The room had wired internet which worked without drama; however there was no wifi signal if you were wanting to connect a mobile device. There is wifi available in the lobby though so it's a good excuse to head down for a coffee or some dumplings. The peacock ballroom was being used for a film shoot while I was there so I can not really provide any feedback on this; however, I did dine at the Richard restaurant and was pleasantly surprised by the varied menu of both western and chinese food and the reasonable wine list. Location - the hotel is at the top end of the Bund, it's a great spot to base yourself for wandering the streets of Shanghai. It was also relatively easy to get a cab. From the hotel, there is always a concierge to arrange a car for you. To the hotel, the front desk card includes little map so i never had any problems returning from my days adventures. The hotel has an in-house beauty salon I took advantage of this and had a facial. This was provided in my room and was bliss. Recommended for an evening wind down.
“Will definitely be returning.”
My first impression was WOW!! Then 1 week into my stay I requested a room with a bath and that was even better. Tastefully decorated and comfortable with friendly and helpful staff. Perfect location and great little food shops locally. I loved and would stay again if I'm lucky enough to return to Shanghai.
“Hotel with Character”
one big letdown is the food....not much of a variety and it was not kept hot in the servers ..we stopped having their food for that reason .....guest room carpet was badly stained and the "antique furniture" in the penthouse is not antique so that was disappointing.....but overall it was a nice hotel with a lot of character with helpful staff and right at the start of the Bund was a plus.....
“The best in Shaghai”
The htel was great, best location and very nice architecture, it is like stepping back in time, i was very impressed with the list of gusets that stayed in the hotel in the past the rooms were very clean and the staff did a good job, i would reccomende the hotel .
“Close to everything”
Astor Hotel is old character style and close to shopping markets and department stores.Staff are helpful and always looking to assist getting you around Shanghai.Internet is slow if you need to access.Sightseeing tours are also close to book.Stayed on the executive floor had a room facing the street which your privy to traffic noise however being a heavy sleeper it didnt affect me.Great Old Character Hotel with modern amenities.
“Lovely character-packed hotel”
Have stayed here twice. A couple of years ago in one of their largest suites, and then recently in one of the small attic rooms. Both were great.
“A true piece of Shanghai history...”
A place for those of you who wish to step back in time with modern annuities.. A true gem that will always be my choice in Shanghai...
“Old fasioned - for good and bad”
Spent three nights here. First, if you like a nice big room with high ceilings and old-world charm, this is for you. My room, a Richard Executive was beautiful. Hardwood floor, area rug, lots of open space with a very modern, big, well appointed bathroom. That said the TV is about a mile away from the bed. There is a DVD player provided. However, getting everything to work properly was maddening. I had people in the room twice to get things going and I usually have no problem with tech. If you like your hotel with a nice high-end bar and plush seating in the lobby, this is not your place. The lobby, although grand, is spartan. The bar and little cafe are nice, if a bit musty. You can tell they are rarely busy and were empty most of the time I was there. I ordered a hamburger in the bar one afternoon and it was ghastly. Couldn't get past the first bite. The staff is nice and their English is reasonably good. The hotel is only 4 or 5 stories and if you've been to Shanghai you know that honking one's horn every 30 seconds or so is a practice passionately embraced by CHinese drivers. And it goes on all night. So pack your ear plugs, as I always do.No need for converters, your US plugs will work. Great location, right in the Bund, right at the Budai bridge. All things considered, for the price this hotel is a great value. I will stay again.
