“Excellent”
Excellent hotel
“Great location, great value”
Stayed at Astoria for two nights in early Oct 2011. The location is a five min walk to the Myeongdong station where you can get the underground. The 6015 bus also stops and departs to/from Myeongdong for Incheon and Gimpo airports. The hotel is a five min walk to the hustle and bustle of the Myeong-dong night markets (lots of great places to eat), major shopping malls and Damdaemun Market. Found the hotel to be simple, clean and convenient. We had a special through expedia which was great value. The hotel offered one free breakfast per room, which was very tasty (the other cost KRW 12,000). Hotel staff were helpful and nice. Rooms basic, a little dated but clean. Hotel lobby nice and restaurant nice atmosphere and good service.
“Old hotel, but unbeatable location for the price!”
The Astoria hotel is conveniently located between Chungmuro and Myungdong Stations. Myungdong is a great area to start - you can shop your heart's desire there. The subways are cheap and easy to use and from this location it is very fast to get anywhere. Also, taxis are quite inexpensive too. The hotel was very old and tired. It needs updating. But, I fear if they do that - the price will shoot up because of the amazing location. Would recommend this hotel if you are on a weekend break or out sightseeing all the time. Not the most suitable for a romantic stay (really, really not).
“Astoria Hooker spoils trip”
gone most all day sight seeing, had a great time in Seoul. Exhausted, I just wanted to shower and get some sleep. Some Korean hooker lady in a beige dress kept ringing my room doorbell like every 20 minutes, finally I got up and answered through the door, asking who is it? She said sorry mistake. I went back to bed, I half hour later door bell rings again, so I get up remove my key from slot which cuts off power to door bell, I look through the peep hole and she's pushing the doorbell button but nothing sounds, then she starts knocking on the door. I opend door she said Isorry, mistake, I'm hurt,,,I told her stop but she didnt understande english. I got dressed and informed front desk who said they would check it out, but got the impression they woud do nothing. I called my father and told him what was going on that I might be calling the police, Then I informed front desk i was going to sleep. I slept only about 5 hours when she started knocking again. I just got up and checked out of the hotel, I will never stay at the Astoria again, my whole trip was spoiled by not getting enough sleep because of that crazy lady loitering around the place.
“comfortable stay at astoria”
stayed in astoria, seoul for 5 days . hotel is clean, well maintained and the staff were extremely helpful. located near the chingmuro subway and it was easy to go around the city from the hotel. very near to the folk village and meyondong shopping area. easy to reach from the airport with 6015 limosine buses whic stops near sejong hotel, from where it is a walkable distance to astoria. there is a bakery near astoria which satisfied our breakfast. currency exchange near astoria was better than at the airport. stay in astoria and visit meyongdong shopping area which is a must visit for any newcomer to seoul. astoria provides free breakfast only on saturday, sunday & monday. kettel was provided in the room. overall it is worth staying there for the price and comfort.
“good hotel, good location”
The hotel is a little bit old, though they brag about the fact that it is around 50 years old. The location is quite good. It's a very short 3 or 4 minute walk from the subway and incredibly easy to find, as long as you start out on the correct road. It's very close to Myeong-dong if shopping is your thing and a short subway ride away from pretty much anything else. The hotel is a little old and a little run down though it's no worse than anything else at the price. Just down the road in Myeong-dong you find hotels that are in worse condition that will cost more. The restaurant downstairs is like almost all hotel restaurants, overpriced and underwhelming. The included breakfast is substandard, though an additional $5 gets you something fairly reasonable. Overall, I'd say to stay in the hotel if the price is right, though look around to see if something else is a better fit for your budget or in the area in which you'll be spending your time. I enjoy this hotel though and would probably stay here again if the price was right.
“Good location and price”
Rasonable price for the amenities, service, and location.
“Jorge Reta”
The hotel was ok, kind of old but a very good location. the subway station is very close and the bus from the airport and to get to the airport is very close also and a very good price, like 10 dlls.
“gooooood”
it's ok!
“Good hotel, however...”
.....However if you're taller than 1,80cm / 6ft, please find another hotel. My husband and I spent 4 days in Seoul. To be fair, the location is excellent, the hotel is clean, although it's a old hotel, and good service from staff. Since I'm a tall person, and I could be standing in the bathroom!!!!! To take a shower it was very hard. The positive point that didn't make think to change the hotel is the smell cleanliness of that place. So: if you're short person, stay there, otherwise keep searching!!
