Great base to explore Rouen

Posted 26-Aug-2014
Pros: Location was perfect for exploring on foot. Left car in the garage. Very nice room and service from hotel staff.
Cons: Good as is.
Location: Rouen is a very historic city with a great many cathedrals and churches, including the medieval burying ground, L'aƮtre Saint-Maclou.
Picked this Mercure because it is right behind Rouen Cathedral. A great location but difficult to reach by car because of one-way streets, pedestrian zones and construction. GPS could not get us through the maze, so I circled away to force a different approach, which worked. Try to call hotel for precise directions. The underground garage is a very good idea. Still, I would recommend the hotel.

Excellent location

Setting aside the one issue that everyone seems to have with finding the hotel using sat nav (we cant blame the hotel if the town council puts in bollards can we?)... the hotel is also in the old quarter of town so finding the road network is always going to pose a problem. And therein lies the charm of this hotel, great location, right beside the cathedral, our room was excellent, room service on the one night that we used it was really fast (and I mean really fast). All in all an excellent stay and worth every penny/cent!!!

Great Location

Posted 24-Aug-2014
Pros: Fabulous location.
Cons: Our room had a slight smoking smell as if in the past it may have been a smoking room?
Location: Super close to the cathedral. There was an amazing light and music show on the cathedral on the Saturday night that we were there.
Really nice hotel right almost as close as you you can get to the cathedral. Make sure that you turn onto Arsins Street to locate the hotel otherwise you have trouble finding it.

Mercure Rouen Cathedrale Hotel

Posted 13-Aug-2014
Very good hotel but, if driving there, be sure you have a very up to date city centre road map. Our one-year old satnav (mercedes' "best") could not cope, and we spent well over half an hour going around the inner city centre until we gave up, and parked in the Cathedral carpark.

Super once found.

Posted 11-Aug-2014
Pros: Strongly recommend the breakfast - one of the very best hotel breakfasts ever experienced!
Cons: Further directions posted on the hotel site.
Location: Old Rouen on the doorstep. Stunning.
Finding the hotel in the one-way system was an nightmare after a long journey. We made several circuits of the city and even up-to-date Sat Nav couldn't cope. However, it was a good choice and very well placed for exploring the beautiful old parts of Rouen.

Great location

Posted 05-Aug-2014
Pros: Location, location, location...
Cons: Need more atmosphere.
Location: Great to wonder cobbled streets just out of the hotel any direction. Cathedral is stone throw away. Plenty of shops and eating places short walk away.
Great location for visiting historic Rouen. It took a bit of time to find a hotel as it is rather in the old centre, and parking was a bit tight in hotel underground car park. Rooms were not too big but nice for a short city break stay. Enjoyed the bed which was very comfortable. Also had kettle which is luxury in some of the European hotels, so enjoyed a morning cuppa in the room. View onto Cathedral, great.

Great city break!

Posted 04-Aug-2014
Great hotel located in old city of Rouen; what would help if the hotel had detailed instructions on how to find the hotel as even google maps and my brand new satnav in my carstruggled with the location; as their is only access road to the hotel. But highly recommend for weekend break.

Not really air conditioned, so I think it's misrep

Posted 02-Aug-2014
Pros: Location, o
Cons: Air conditioning inadequate for active guests.
Location: Right in the heart of the historical part of the city. Hotel staff courteous. I was charged an additional tax upon leaving. Expedia website wrong
For the price the towels could have been larger and thicker. The air conditioner doesn't adequately cool the room.

Very comfortable hotel

Posted 16-Jul-2014
Pros: The breakfast was very good and well staffed to keep guests supplied with food and coffee. Really good croissants.
Cons: A safe in the room would be nice. Also a non-slip bath mat.
Location: Besides the cathedral, there is the Musee de Beaux Arts and the Ceramics Museum. The Church of St. Maclou is very pretty. All are within an easy walk
The hotel is located a short distance from the Cathedral. It is within easy walking distance from just about anywhere you'd want to go for sightseeing in Rouen. The hotel is hard to get to if you have a car. The room is relatively large for France, with a big double desk suitable for two people. The bed was comfortable, the closet space above average, the bathroom was larger than average, with a shower over a bathtub. The bathtub is a little slippery when showering.
